New guy survival guide
« on: June 08, 2007, 02:06:59 PM »
Before you ask a question stop and think:

1)Does it sound a really obvious problem with FE? Yes? Then it's been answered before. No questions asked

2)Read the FAQ, chances are most of your questions are there.
2a) to stop you looking all the way through, 'cos I know you're lazy people go to 'Edit' and 'Find (on this page...)' on your browser and type a keyword like 'gravity' or 'horizon'

no luck?

3) Use the 'search' feature. You'll probably get the best results if you search 'oldest first'

4)Flick through a couple of pages in the 'debate and discussion'

Still nothing?

5) Ok, start a new topic in questions and clarification along with evidence to support your question.

6)Be polite, No-one here is paid to answer your questions and a 'please' and 'thank you' will get you more results than 'f*cking f*gs! answer my question!

Good Example:
Quote
I have a question about {x}. this is what happens on RE to support {x} and here is my evidence. How does this work on FE? Thank you for your time

Bad Example
Quote
OMG why the f*ck would anyone believe this!? Look, {x} happens, this shows RE is real, get over it!

Ask like the bad example or don't use steps 1-4 you will inevitably get "Look in the FAQ/use the search feature/this has been answered before/shut up newbie"

Thank you for your time

When we get an FE newbie we'll make them their own thread. Until that day we don't really need one.

How in hell did you find my first post, you f*cking f*g?

Go to your profile, click on "Last Posts by this member", and go to the last page.  Your first post will be the last one listed.  You can do this to find anybody's first post.

First things first.  Before you tell people to read the FAQ, you need to update the FAQ.  The question (nevermind the answer) regarding the Coriolis effect is flawed.  Several key questions (which haven't been adequately answered) are missing.  I've heard people from both sides of the debate say that it's outdated and bad.

I agree that there's a lot of redundant discussion on this forum, but that happens on all forums, even ones much better organized and maintained than this one.  Your indignation may be righteous, but people will continue to be dissatisfied with the FAQ.

Be more specific.

Hence the reason Steps 2-4 talk about running a search through other threads

You left one out:
