The truth.
« on: May 10, 2007, 08:38:01 PM »
The Bible is the truth. Every part of it is true, I cannot fathom any reason to doubt it. It has always been a perfect work and will continue to be perfect. There are no contradictions and there have never been any. There is no reality but that described in the Bible. Jesus lived and God exists.

Either it is a joke, in which case [][][] fails miserably at the internet. Or he is serious, and in that case, I have just lost all faith in humanity.

Can you explain why there are two completely different versions of Creation side-by-side in Genesis, if the Bible doesn't contradict itself?

Yes, well most scholors believe that the second (the one involving Eve splitting from Adam's rib) was added sometime during the ninth or tenth century B.C. The Genesis was based on the Jewish texts, which were oral stories long before they wrote their sacred scrolls. It is entirely possible than both accounts of creation were two versions of the same story. The fact that there are two versions is does not bother me, there could be one hundred for all I care.

I don't need to make a rebuttal. Your argument fell apart as soon as you claimed that every part of the bible is true, and then tried to back up that claim by saying that you can not think of any reasons to doubt it. And even though you claimed that every part of the bible is true, you also acknowledged that there are several very different accounts of many stories in the bible.

You fail at reason.
You fail at debating.
You fail at life.

How about the fact that the Old Testament version of God was the absolute truth, until the New Testament came along and completely changed Him?

Old Testament: vengeful.  angry.

New Testament: forgiving.  loving.

Go figure.  ::)

I remember a cute story about that. A little girl wondered why God was so different in the New Testament from the Old Testament and then after thinking about it she said "I know why, it's because then Old Testament was before God became a Christian"

Ok I suck at telling the cute stories.

Basically from what I gather the Old Testament is made up of history and the law and stuff and the law is supposed to be all strict and that but the New Testament is supposed to be what Christianity is based upon with all the forgiveness and love.
It's not contradicting, it's just different parts of the story so to speak.

I didn't say they were exactly the same. "God," however, is a mythological being. The concept of the first cause is a cosmological one. Let's keep reality and fantasy separate, shall we?

How can God be perfect if his creations are not perfect?  If God made me, and I'm not perfect, clearly God is not perfect either.

But those kinds of arguments really miss the point, which is that there is no evidence to suggest that any god, perfect or not, actually exists.
