I officially love you.

Edit: Not in that way.

Do you love me in that way though? :P

Of course! Almost enough to forgive you for taking this off topic  ;)

Tom, anything to say?

Look, if you want to know the FE answer to stuff then don't ask for Tom's answer. He does not, I repeat not, represent the FE view.

Then what is the general consensus on how a ship dissapears below the horizon? From what I've read in my few days on this forum, I was under the impression that 1 inch tall waves were supposed to be covering it up, and that was what most FE'ers believed.

There is no one thought of how parts of the FE work.

Tom
as Gin has clearly demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt....:

If the object (ship or sun or whatever) is higher than the highest wave between the object and observer

AND

the eye of the observer is higher than the highest wave between the object and observer.

That X cm high wave will obstruct only X cm of the object AT THE MOST because THERE IS NOTHING  B E T W E E N  THE OBJECT AND OBSERVER....you stupid old fart.

Haha, that was a good one.

But, he said there was nothing between the object and the observer, when there's hundreds or thousands of pounds of air.

Yes, but air (while it may haze something into invisibility) does not cause a sharp shadow, as we can see in http://theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?topic=12959.0

The sun could never 'set' in FE, just fade slowly away. This clearly does not happen.

Edit: Before you say that dusk/dawn light does fade slowly away, I'm talking about the visible disk of the Sun, which clearly disappears behind the horizon.

Gin, I think you have a very valid point. I don;t think I could have done a better job explaining that.

Waiting for the thread to fade into the horizon due the combined idiocy of your arguments, eh Tommy? Very mature.
Or do you still think you'll crack it with your little booklet. Maybe you missed something. Have you consulted chapter 14?

But don't worry, I have a booklet for you: Geometric optics.

I don't know how pathetic science works, but in real science when a phenomena that speaks contrary to the theory is observed, the theory is either found false or modified in such way to explain the new phenomena.

Although not all the things Tom comes up with are great, he has a life and isn't on the forums 24/7.  If you have to wait for a response, than wait, but don't be impatient and rude about it.

how many other threads like this do you think there are where REers have made some sort of really good point and gotten no response from FEers?

if only we could make our own REer sticky thread with our FUAQ in it (frequently unanswered questions), and fill it with all the good things RE has come up with to debunk FE, just to see what the tally is.

Hey good idea. How about even going a step farther and setting up a forum on theroundearthsociety.org?

You're so right. But we'll just have to explain to the audience that FEers really do exist and hold fast to their beliefs even in the face of such overwhelming evidence.

If the evidence is so overwhelming, then you should be able to reference some experimental evidence for a Round Earth.
