A Contradiction
« on: April 23, 2007, 12:53:12 PM »
http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/febible.htm

The very first part was as far as I got before the accelerating disk was contradicted.  ::)
The Earth is allegedly immovable and in a fixed position yet it accelerates straight up to generate the effect we call gravity? nope.

...

"National Bible-Science Conference" lol.
If I was asked to imagine a perfect deity, I would never invent one that suffers from a multiple personality disorder. Christians get points for originality there.

Well if the universe is accelerating with Earth you could arge that it's fixed with respect to that. I mean...that's what they're likely to say anyway! Either that or the usual: "Actually I'm an athiest".

Quote
Like geocentrists, flat-earth advocates often give long lists of texts. Samuel Birley Rowbotham, founder of the modern flat-earth movement, cited 76 scriptures in the last chapter of his monumental second edition of Earth not a Globe.

And they try to claim this theory is not motivated by the Bible, and that Rowbotham did not have any preconceived notions of what he would find when he set out to find the shape of the earth. ::)

I await Tom's rebuttal.

Actually, I'd love to see a serious FEer tackle this.

But Tom would be fun.

This post is completely serious.  :-\
I want some replies.

In the condition that a responding FE proponent is not a biblical literalist I will have questions.   ;)

It is fixed in respect to the people walking on it.  The earth is the reference point for everything else, and thus it cannot be moved within its own reference point.

Which would... also make a rotating earth fit with the Bible's description of a fixed earth? ???

Yes, and because the Earth is moving in both RE and FE theory, real Bible literalists must believe in something completely different.

I'm an Athiest myself, but I can provide light on where UA came from. The Universal Accelerator was included when the Flat Earth Society looked into the night skies and noticed that the cosmos were slowly expanding and accelerating away from each itself. This is called the expanding universe, and is prime proof for the Universal Accelerator in action.

Or maybe it's proof of the Big Bang, as real scientists treat it.

Do you believe that the Big Bang is still happening, then?

I believe that the outward acceleration of the universe that started with the Big Bang is still happening, yes. ::)

That's right, I bet you'd automatically believe anything that sounded remotely convincing without checking it out for yourself. Since you're so prone to deception, maybe you should make http://www.gullible.info your homepage.

Tell me, REC, where's your proof that the Earth is a whirling globe?

Thats what makes it a contradiction.  ;)

Or, were you referring to my saying "acceleration" instead of "expansion"? ???

Honest mistake. :)  You FEers, such sticklers.
