Further FE evidence
« on: April 04, 2007, 07:32:24 AM »
The northern shore of Africa is visible from the south of Europe. Yet the Mediterranean sea is too long to see over if the world is round.. Perhaps some of you are considering the flat earth more seriously now.

By south of Europe do you mean Italy or Malta?

Be more specific. It's no miracle if you see  Africa from Spain, or from Malta, even Sicily i think

I live in Croatia. A couple of moths ago we went to the astronomical observatory with the school, and it was a very clear day so we saw Italy from the mountain. It is also visible from some islands on a clear day.And you don't see all of Italy(with the shores and coastline), just the highest mountains. That actually prooves the round earth theory

Besides, the distance from Croatia to Italy is somewhat equal of the distance from Malta to Africa, Spain is even closer.

you need to be more specific I'm afraid.
It's perfectly possible on a round earth to see spain from Africa. Hell, you can probably see Calais from Dover on a decent day. :-\ And from La Gomera, you can see Tenerife at a certain point in the day (when the air is less humid and hazy).

Im speaking of the mediterranean sea, not the adriatic. Croatia to Itality is Europe to Europe.

The coastlines to each of these landmasses is quite substantial and differ in their relative position from each other.

The mediterranean sea is defined as 2,400 miles long from north to south, according to E. D. Bradfords measurements.

You can see the different land masses when looking across the straits of Gibraltar. I'm guessing it works equally well in a Flath Earth map as in a Round Earth map.

2,400 miles is still quite a long stretch of land.

More specific in term of country. It's not the same if your in Spain near the Giblartar or somewhere in France.I bet you can't see Africa from Marseille in France. And you definetaly can't see Africa from just any southern Europe country. It depends how close you are, the weather is a factor and on what latitude you are.If you are on a mountain, it is more likely you will see it.

And I said that the distance from Malta to Africa is roughly equal to the distance from Croatia to Italy and Spain is closer.
And if it was a flat Earth, you would see the coast and lower ground, but you can't, you see only the highest mountains and that prooves that Earth is round

Please be more careful in reading posts

LOL of course it is.  Spain practically TOUCHES northern Africa.  And to see across the Mediterranean from most parts I'm sure you'd have to be standing on a mountain or other tall structure... plenty of those in southern Europe.  In the real world, the higher you are, the further you can see.  This is because more of the arc you are on is visible.  Quite plausible on a Round Earth, dipshit.

I wasn't using that round earth map as evidence for either theory. I was pointing out that the fact you can see the African continent from the South of Europe is not exclusive to a flat earth map. Either theory allows one to look accross the Mediterranean and see the other continent, so the use of this argument in either theory is moot.

Gee, I have to write this for the third time in this thread.
You can see only the highest mountains, indicating there is a curve. If the Earth was flat you would see everything from the coastline up.

That's a strong evidence that the Earth is round.

Let me rephrase then, the coasts of Africa are visible from the coasts of Europe.
