I got an idea!
« on: April 02, 2007, 05:23:28 PM »
Obviously all of you that post here have never traveled the world in a plane. And why? Because you have little faith and are scared to find out the truth, truth that the earth is round.

You idiots, buy a plane ticket, go on a vacation, and fly around the world and see for yourselves you tools. I dare you to.

Circumnavigation is still possible on a Flat Earth do to its Magnetic Layout.

What magnetic layout? Why do you people just make up a bunch of shit to convince yourself this crap? If you travel in a completely around the earth, starting from Canada, and you go East, you will eventually end up in Canada again. If there was some magnetic force it would be displayed on the computer screens of the aircraft. Or wait, let me guess. Some magical force called the "asdfhsfsaf" prevents that from happening right?

Planes can circumnavigate the world without a conspiracy. Due to the Flat Earth's magnetic layout planes traveling around the world would be moving in slight imperceptible curves above the face of the earth.

Here's a visualization of the FE magnetic layout: http://i11.tinypic.com/2w2mzr5.png

North is Hubward, South is Rimward, East is Turnwise and West is Widdershins.

The only way to go over the edge is to travel directly south without deviating. When you work up the courage to trespass over the lawless lands of the Antarctic come back to us with videos.

You dumb idiot, I did not say circle the earth by turning left all the way... That's why the graph clearly shows the plane going south from the top. And not circling the surface.

You said go east the whole way.  That's what that picture shows.

East or South, it doesn't matter which way as long as it does not go in one big circle. Fuck you people at stupid, you know what I am yet you still convince yourselves that you are right.

What? Try making some sense before making insults.

Come up with better proofs for RE. What I just did shows exactly the same thing.

Try looking up a thread by meatmonkey. You might like some of his threads.

East or west is a circle.  North and south are not, in either model.

In case you haven't read my post yet:

You're both wrong.

Airplanes do not fly in straight paths.

Example:
You want to fly from a place that rests at say, 30° latitude North/100° longitude West (approximatly Texas) to a place that rests at 30° latitude North/100° longitude East (central China).  Airlines don't follow the latitude line straight across.  You will not pass through Morocco or Egypt (which are directly on the 30° latitude line), but rather you will pass either slightly above or slightly below them in an arc.

THIS IS BECAUSE THE EARTH IS ROUND AND THE SHORTEST DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO SPOTS IS A CURVED LINE.

GET IT??????????????????????????????

What?  ???
No, dumbass.... you're not getting it.

Imagine a disc.  On a flat surface, the shortest distance between two point is a straight line.  Go ahead draw it on a piece of paper and see for yourself:  Length of straight line < Length of curved line.

Okay, got it?

NOW, imagine a tennis ball.  To trace the shortest possible line from one point to the next, you will actually make a curve.  SO; on a spherical surface:  Length of straight line > Length of curved line.

Is that too much for you to comprehend?

My table is flat. When I look at it from a certain angle, it looks like a line. So lines must be flat on a sphere too!

Sorry I was being a smartass.

In all seriousness, most navigation at it's simplest is handled using a compass. You specified a direction on the compass rose. So by utilizing that information, the images I showed are politically and geographically correct. Neither myself, nor Engineer are wrong about this.

If you can describe what you want in a better manner, then maybe you will get a different result.

No, sorry fellow REers as long as they've got a good thoery for creating a central magnetic force on a disc, a compass will always point to north, or the centre just like a RE.

See, FEers, when you use real logic and science you CAN make a constructive argument without blurting "Conspiracy!"

Sorry, but nothing says that a compass rose has to be dependent on the magnetic field of the earth. In fact, it only really depends on the axis of rotation. Both FET and RET have this, and so you can use compass rose coordinates to plot accurate and equivalent courses on both models. You could also do away completely with using magnetic compasses and instead use GPS devices which rely on radio signals to triangulate coordinates and then place you on a map using compass rose coordinates independent of a magnetic compass.

I've personally never once resorted to the conspiracy when defending FET.

Look, fallow the fucking line. When I said East or South, I ment go ALL the way EAST or SOUTH! Not in a fucking circle!

If you did this you would go underneath the earth and see the bottom. Unless I am forgetting the magically force called the "sdgferthdf" that prevents you from doing this?

This image completely and correctly answered what you originally requested, which is quoted above. You never specified south until after I answered you. I also correctly explained how you don't need a magnetic field for compass rose coordinates.

it's entirely possible to still go south on FET, and you would arrive at the same location on both models. No matter what coordinates you follow, you will never go into space unless you travel perpendicular to the earths surface.

Stop failing.

No, wait, listen I know what you're saying (REer speaking) and you're right if you went due east or west you would fall off according to FE but if you're going east or west following a compass the needle will wlays point to north, so as you walk east the needle will keep turning to be locked on magnetic north, so unintentionally you would end up in a circle, exactly the same as on an RE model...just flattened, sos mate :-\#

EDIT: (this was meant to go before Hara's post)

if you follow compass ROSE coordinates, you will never "fall" off the earth.

I understand his thinking, but he needs to better articulate what he wants to try and explain and/or prove. I'm just trying to motivate the lad. He has it, but he's not using the right words, and I am being very literal, following his exact words as they mean, even if he doesn't mean them in that fashion.

Tis why I love proper english.

So point east, then go strait from there on; no changing coarse at all.

Just one question out of curiosity(I believe it was answered before but I didn't find it):

On a flat earth, wouldn't it be faster to go in a straight line then in a circle?Because a straight line should be a faster and shorter way than a curve.

How would you know you were going straight?

What makes you think you wouldn't go straight?

How would you know you were going straight?

Could you not calculate your coarse before you fly, then be sure your points of flying match your points of your coarse?

Yes, then you may very well end up at the ice wall.  Fortunately, people use compasses, instead of dead reckoning.
