The Bushies' claim seems to be that the administration is absolutely sure that everyone they lock up is a terrorist, and terrorists don't deserve the same rights as regular criminals. But if they are so confident all these people are in fact guilty, why have detainees been released?

under what jurisdiction do these inmates have rights? they aren't US citizens, and those who are not US citizens or do not have a valid visa do not have any rights really.

You're joking right?

A great number of these detainees were not anywhere illegally. Several are United States citizens or legal residents. Others were nabbed from their homes or on vacation or business trips in other countries.

that place should be shut down. It's a terrible breach on human rights. I bet not even half of those detainees are actually going to be sentenced or anything.

Once again, America leading the way as an example of Human Rights and following international law(geneva conventions.) Where would we be without them?
As I said in another thread...

Forget "Earth: Not a Globe". Why don't you try reading "Earth: Not a Book, the Real Thing".

The only Australian Detainee that was left - David Hicks - was finally allowed a trial just recently, after 5 years inprisonment without charge. He was charged with providing material support to a terrorist organisation (I think), a charge that his lawyer (American) Maj. Michael Mori has said is not even a legitamite charge.

David pleaded guilty - something which in the eyes of our Bush-equivalent politicians has justified them not putting up any sort of fight for Hicks, and their new terror laws. However most others believe (correctly in my opinion) that Hicks only plead guilty to get out of Guantanemo. There were reports of human rights abuses and torture, as well as Hicks receiving ill-treatment from the other detainees, who believed he was a CIA agent placed to spy on them.

Hicks' sentence is ONLY a further 9 months detention - likely to be served here in Australia (but only due to the stink that has been kicked up recently regarding his case) - his date of release to be NYE this year.

On top of that there are ludicrous conditions on his release, including a year-long media gag, preventing Hicks from talking to the media. Quite conicidentally (or not) that just takes us past the date for our next federal election.

If this is not the biggest evidence of Governmental corruption then I don't know what is. Dodgy backdoor dealings, total disregard for local or international law. Why are the citizens of our countries content to let this sort of behaviour continue?

It isn't publicized enough.  People need to know all about this shit, it needs to be put in their faces, but I'm pretty sure nobody's listening, the government isn't letting much get out, or both is true.

BOG, come the fuck on. Usually I enjoy your responses, but the moment ANYONE mentions Hitler in a thread, the debate is salad tossed.  ::)
My problem with his ideas is that it is a ridiculous thing.

Genius. PURE, undiluted genius.

Hasn't anyone seen 24?  Shady deals is how shit gets done! lol The person in question provides information and gets off easy.  They need some motivation for singing like a canary.  At least the poor bastard wasn't decapitated and his video uploaded on the interweb. I know, I know, its my response to everything lol.

Well, many people are not content, obviously, however, the CIA will always be the CIA.  Even when the people vote in a new administration, and appoint all thier people accordingly, will that change how the CIA or the NSA or other defense organizations operate? Probably not, unless directly specified.  The new administration will know how much everyone hates gitmo and shut it down.  Will that stop what is going on? No it will just happen elsewhere.  They have a job to do and any administration expects results, big results.  Or they can just send in Jack Baur.

Bush is a moron who does all he can to spread fear in an attempt to hold on to power.  I don't see how anyone can support him.
