Though many believe him to be dead, his death was faked to be the perfect excuse. Nobody would suspect a dead man, would they?
In reality, he is a planeswalking postmortal from the future, come back in time to create a new world order. I'm sure you've all heard the saying that "Reality is what you make of it", well this saying is literally true, as each human carries a small measure of latent psychic power. The combined power of humankind has the power to shape the universe. You see, if the majority of humankind believe in a flat world, then the world is indeed flat. However, if the majority of the world believe in a round world, then their psychic energies reshape the universe into a round world.
With this knowledge, Gelileo Galilei (tired of having his reign limited to earth) realized that if he could go back in time and plant the idea in humanity of a round world, with an infinite universe, then he would, in the future, have that much a larger domain to control.
