Help Wanted: Looking for Someone to Interview about the FES
« on: March 07, 2007, 12:39:02 AM »
Hello,  everyone. My name is Christine and I am a student at San Joaquin Delta College. This semester I am enrolled in an English 1A class and we have to do a research paper. I have chosen to do my report on the Flat Earth Society because it seems to be a very interesting topic. One of the requirements for our research paper is that we have to interview someone who is an expert in the field of our topic. I was hoping to find someone who will be willing to answer a few questions for me I would greatly appreciate it if someone will let me interview them or at least tell me who would be best to interview.

A few questions I had were: What is the Flat Earth Society? Who created it? What proof is there that the earth is flat? If the earth is supposedly flat, why don't we fall of the edge? How do you feel about people who disapprove of the idea that the earth is flat?

If someone can let me interview them, please e-mail me at [email protected]

Well. You should begin by reading the FAQ.

And read Earth: Not a Globe.  Or at least that's what all the FE'ers(flat earthers) say to do.

Dear Christine,

I would be happy to speak with you on the subject of the Flat Earth. The Flat Earth Society is an open-minded organization which seeks to learn more about the universe through direct observation, evidence, and scientific proofs. Over two hundred years old, it is the oldest operating scientific society in the world.

The modern Flat Earth movement was founded by the English inventor Samuel Birley Robotham (1816-1884), who proved the earth as a flat plane in his book "Earth: Not a Globe." According to Rowbotham's improved scientific method, which he called Zetetic Method, the earth is a flat disk centered at the North Pole and bounded along its southern edge by a wall of ice, with the sun and moon circling over the face of the earth.

His observations, experiments, and mathematical proofs are accurately described in his literature. Later measurements confirmed his studies and observations. In his book Robotham also predicts tectonic shifting over a century before it was discovered. A man well ahead of his time, Sir Robotham championed the realm of science.

I look forward to speaking with you further on Flat Earth Theory, Christine. Since I happen to live near the San Joaquin Delta College I am also available for live interviews.

Tom is the wrong person to contact.

I think the best for your interview would be Erasmus. Tom would just turn your interview into a laughing stock unfortunately.

If you can't get Erasmus then I suggest TheEngineer or one of the real FE believers. I forget the name of one poster but he is apparently one of the best speakers of the subject (no not Tom Bishop).

Thank you so much, Tom! I've been having a lot of trouble trying to find someone to interview, so I am very grateful. I would like to do an in-person interview as soon as possible, preferably tomorrow or Friday on Delta College's campus. If this is too much of a short notice for you, we can always exchange e-mails. I would also like to know what your occupation is and how you became interested in the Flat Earth Society.

Wolfwood, what's wrong with Tom Bishop?

Erasmus is an administrator and TheEngineer is Global Moderator, right? Are they both real FE believers?
Do you think they will have time to answer my questions?

I'm willing to interview as many people as I can.

Dear Christine,

I've sent you an email about the interview. Flat Earth Proponents are few and far between these days. The popularity of the Flat Earth declined around the time of World War One, when popular science became biased towards the Round Earth. It's a sad state of affairs, but another movement is beginning to stir.

However, don't let the relatively small presence on the internet fool you. Today we have thousands of Flat Earth supporters located in all parts of the world. There are even entire countries who believe in a Flat Earth. It may come hard to believe, but there is a library of Flat Earth Literature floating around out there, composed of books written in many languages. The most popular book on the subject is Earth Not a Globe by Samuel Birley Robotham. For further Flat Earth references, I have provided a list of books in the Information Repository forum

The vast majority of the world still believes in a round earth, unfortunately. Perhaps one day the common man will open his eyes and stop following media hype like a dog to the whistle.

Well... Tom isn't what you might call an "accurate" account of the FE theory. Many of his opinions regarding the theory are strictly his own.

Erasmus is simply put, brilliant. He is an FE "devils advocate". TheEngineer claims to be a true FE believer, however in the world of information exchange, you can only take that at face value and believe or disbelieve it.

Oh and Bullhorn is another excellent choice. I have only heard of him (never having seen a post of his personally) however what I have heard is that he is a brilliant poster and a true FE believer.

Well he was right to a point in that thread.

However he failed to consider volume, merely considered physical representation of numbers.

Tom Bishop isn't even a good choice to begin with.

I agree that TheEngineer would supply a good second opinion, however I say that Erasmus is the best choice for a primary interview.
