Neato. Well I welcome any feedback, especially from another musician. Been doing this since '97.

The first song sounds pretty cool. I like the depth. Out of curiosity, what program do you use (I use Magix Music Maker at the moment for most of what I do--which is more fiddling around than anything)? And is it mostly MIDI or samples?

I use Reason and Reaktor for making samples and effects, and acid for the final arrangement. I also use an ungodly amount of freeware available off "the google" (to cash in on Bushisms). I sometimes use my m-audio USB keyboard on my laptop when I'm...not holed up in here talking to you all or playing World of Warcraft. LOL.

I literally use about 5 main applications in addition to the synth and other real world things.

Interesting. Did you code that yourself or just keep it bookmarked for when you have absolutely nothing important to say?

Oh I concur :) My music goes all over the dashboard insofar as style and presentation. I am on an electronica/ambient kick this go round. I will be doing an Industrial Death Metal side project in the near future, most likely after the DvD is released. I am teaming up with a head turning person *grins demonically*

I'm going to hijack this thread real quick with a question.  Those of you who do sequencing and all that, what is a good free, or at least reasonably priced, program with a sequencer with a piano roll?

I downloaded the FL Studio 7 (formerly called Fruity Loops) demo and it is amazing, but you can't save anything (though you can export to Wav or Mp3, but that doesn't do me much good when I don't have the time to mess with it in one sitting).  I almost ordered the $50 "Express" version, but found out it didn't have the piano roll which is pretty much the single important part of the program that I'm using.  I would consider the $99 version if I had money, but I don't.

So, help a brother out?

Thanks, but that doesn't help me much.  :P

I'm actually considering shelling out the $99 for FL.  It's a really solid program and simple to use, and has tons of shit that I don't understand that is probably useful.

Read the FAQ and the manuals on both applications. Trust me when I say, if you are just learning, mad tracker will be far easier to take in than FL. FL is a wonderful app and I use it sometimes, but, the interface is more pretty than functional in my experience. Start small, and grind up. You can thank me later :P

I have a couple of freeware applications from various DvD discs that came with magazines i subscribe to. One of them is a fully functional version of Reason (arguably the most powerful thing known to music-kind) and comes with about 650 megs of sounds. But with reason, you can make em too, so basically you are avoiding the $400 pricetag for the latest version of Reason.

I also am a rabid devotee of Pro Tools, but we won't go there. LAWL.

I'm not sure what you're talking about.  FL was simple to use right out of the box (so to speak; I downloaded it).  As soon as I opened up Mad Tracker, I had no idea what to do.  I'm a big advocate of user friendliness.

By the way, before I commit to FL, what would you say about Muse or Rosegarden for linux?

I have not messed with Rosegarden, and in fact have no idea what that is. Muse is flawless for the Linux Platform however. Although I know it under another name (if in fact we are talking about the same program).

Basically, go with your gut, I guess.

I put up a couple little things that I wrote on MySpace.  I don't think they're too bad for just learning the program.

Right now I'm working on a drum track and synth for a song the new black metal venture Nocturnal Eclipse my friends and I are putting together.  Here is what I have so far (It's only the intro and the first couple verses so far), with synthesized guitar: http://media.putfile.com/The-Rapture-87

And here is a video of my buddy Travis (Or Orodeth is his Kvlt name) providing true guitarage to test out how it sounds.  " class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">.  I have since turned the choir during the verse down quite a bit; I realized how much it drowned everything out when he sent me the video.

I love the internet--we can have band practice from across town.  :P

The synth work is very impressive. My first thought upon hearing that was Castlevania meets The Ring. Very well done indeed. I am curious to hear the final output you come up with.

The guitar vids were hilarious to me, because I own a tapestry of the shirt he was wearing in it. LMAO. I like the chord progression on it as well.

I think you have a gift for what you are aiming to do, and I know a couple of drummers in real life who might be interested in your myspace stuff I saw you mention.

I'll get back to you on that...Good work and never stop! ;D

I'm assuming you mean Zach's Danzig shirt?  I don't think I can make out what Travis was wearing in either video, so you must mean the Danzig shirt.  ;P

Thanks for the kind words.  It always means a lot from another musician.  I'm not sure what "myspace stuff" you're talking about.  I'm a drummer normally myself, thought I'm just doing programming and vocals for this black metal band.  If you know any drummers that would be willing to play for us, that would be great, but they have to be able to move to us.  :P  For the other stuff I posted, I'll probably be doing the drumming myself.  I'll eventually do guitars and such, but that's going to be provided by my Dad when I move.  In about a year.

[edit]Oh, man.  I just realized that Putfile fucked my MP3 up for that song.  Oh well.  We're recording the guitar trash tracks for the song tomorrow, I'm going to finish the programming, then we're recording a final version some time next week, and it surely will be put on MySpace, and I'll update here when we do.
