Wait a second...
no one can totally prove or disprove that the earth is round or that its flat. So i wonder why must we keep fighting and separating ourselves from one another by battling over two theories that neither side can accept? both sides have gathered information on their theories and both have fought it out coming to one conclusion...blind faith.  For FE its the conspiracy and for RE its  government induced knowledge. we can't debate our beliefs because without totally open minds we wont accept what one calls heresy. Until you go into space and see the world from a distance (the entire world) you will never be able to know for sure what shape the world is. What i really don't get is why the hell we are fighting about the shape! why aren't we fighting about the condition some people live in? no matter the shape we should be concerned about the others that we share the world with. I guess my question is such...
Why again are we fighting about the shape when its what on it that matters?

The fact is is that there is overwhelming proof for RE. These people just say it is fake evidence. The FE model, like it or not, has some rather huge flaws in it.

RE has flaws too....Photo's can be doctored, plus have you an eyewitness account for the earth being round? can you say I have been to space and have seen the earth as it is?

Again this is brought up and again I counter with the fact that fanatical whimsy doesn't override human nature (in this case human lust for knowledge). Not to mention, debating about it in the end makes both theories stronger as they try to cover up holes in their theories. If a theory isn't debated enough it can hardly be confirmed as a solid theory.

You don't need eyewitnesses when you have that thing... what was it called? Oh yeah - science. Real science, not funky pseduo-baloney science like in the horseshit Flat Earth theory.

Is it right to come onto a board and rankle, insult, and generally screw-with people who think such nonsense? Hell yes it is. The same way your daddy spanked you when you hit your little sister, it's for thier own good. If not your children grow up to become assholes. Same here. We must oppose bullshit less it evolve into greater bullshit and then people who believe in such bullshit get into a poistion of power, like our current president for instance.

Thus, it is my patriotic duty to come to these boards and rule over all these dumbasses with my holy awsomeness.

No, but we have eyewitness accounts of the Earth being flat; everyone can see that. The Ice Wall is merely a hypothesis that follows from the Earth's flatness.

I don't see it. When I go up on a tall building or mountain, I can't tell if the Earth is Flat or round just by looking at it. This is a bullshit answer. We want someone who has gone to space and has seen the Earth as a Flat disc and has taken a picture of it.

But no, you're never gonna find someone like that. Because the don't exist.

Take a picture from a tall building or mountain that you think makes the world seem round. I don't believe you.

ok well if you take this picture.. first off during the day.. you only have limited sight because of the ROUND sun. and the fact that there are cities everywhere. secondly, you cant do that with a flat earth either. your fraked either way

Shinobi Mono, you ever seen a lunar eclipse? Its where the moon moves into the shadow of the earth cause the sun is on the other side of the earth. The shadow the earth is circular (shown on the moons surface) and whats the only object that has a circular shadow....a sphere!!!!!

See best thing about it is the moon and sun have to be on either side of the earth, which is physically impossibe with the whole flat earth idea. Aparently the moon and sun are above the earth looking down.

Best thing thing about this lunar eclipse? Its been happening for thousands of years well before the "goverment" had any ideas of a flat earth.

"no one can totally prove or disprove that the earth is round or that its flat" well that statment is bull.
Read the FAQ first, it will save half of you looking like fools!

Not true. Can you see the wind? No. But do you see evidence of it? Yes.
Can we see the whole Flat Earth? No. But do we see evidence of it? Yes.

Anyway, we aren’t fighting because this IS the Flat Earth Society forums. We came here because we wanted to pursue a topic that was meaningful to us. You can’t make us debate over something we don’t care as much about. It’s like making a farmer a doctor, or vice versa. What’s on it IS important, but for us, this is meaningful and worth it. Even if some of us are just doing it for amusement, amusement is worthwhile.

And aren’t the lying conspirators of the government on this planet too?

To answer the original question...

We fight for different reasons.  I would guess most here are sure of the validity of what they believe, and feel compelled to convince those they see as hopelessly wrong.

Myself, it is the particular twisted logic of the flat Earthers that draws me, as the moth to the flame.  I know it is pointless, I understand that, yet I feel compelled to try to fight it anyway.  I generally try to hold myself to a high degree of reason (Note please the try!), so when I find it being misused I feel drawn.

Oh, and as has been pointed out, it is perfectly possible to prove whether the Earth is round or flat.  There are mathmatical methods, astronomical methods, even methods of reason.  Of course, if you want to take the easy way you could just build a rocket and head to space.

However, since most don't have the space method open to them, they have to rely upon the others.  Most of the flat Earthers, trusting nothing they either can't reproduce themselves or don't fully understand (or failing that, anything that is too disagreeable), hold to their theory.

This is the first time I have ever heard someone call rocket engineering 'easy'!
