Please make me a believer

First as a disclaimer I would just like to say that I believe that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and way of thought. With that being said I also believe that you have to consider all other possible explanations and causations in order for your argument to be able to with hold any and all critisim. I am a firm believer that the earth is round, I have read through your posts and numerous theories that you believe to uphold your flat earth theory. The very first question that comes to mind when I was reading all of this is that, does any of you believe in science at all? Theory of evolution?? Any of it? What about Christopher Colombus? I have read most of your rebuttles in accordance to this but yet I still sit back and shake my head. If you do in fact believe in science at least a little bit, or I shall narrow it down to the scientific method, then it seems hypocritical of you to say that you do in fact believe in all or some of these above mentioned things, and yet totally abstain from believing the same theories when talking about the shape of the earth....can you please explain ll of this to me. Please do not misinterrpret what I am offering here. I am in no way attacking your belief system nor am I poking fun at anything that you do so to believe in, all I am after is a solid concrete explanation in which then I would be able to understand what exactly it is that you believe in and why you do. Was it an inquiry that you had from childhood or was it that one morning you woke up and decided that the world was flat? All these questions and more intrigue me, and I am eager to learn more about what it truly is that made a believe out of you that the world is flat. Hopefully you can make a believer out of me, but prepared I am not easily waived.

Hi, I came across your post and thought that I try and answer some of your points. You are correct that science is important and we must always be willing to bring all things to the test of sound scientific study and scrutiny.

I used to believe the earth was a sphere, this was of course though indoctrination...I always had my  doubts, however I felt some what secured by the photographic evidence... Unfortunally I had not given any thought or applied any reason, to the fact, that light which travels over over long distance,is subject to change, also the light which we see of the earth has been bent by the earths strong magnetic fields especially that light which is at the earths edge. When we see the image of the earth from space the image is reflected light, which originated from the sun and comes back out into space, we have to allow for the fact that any image seen from a long distance is subject to change....Therefore photographic evidence is no longer admissible evidence that the earth is a sphere.

I know that there is much more to be worked out in regard of the flat earth, however I do not believe that the earth, current belief as a sphere, is a closed case and is still up for debate.

Thank you Travers54 for your prompt reply and non condesending manner in which you answered my questions. To be perfectly honest I love having my beliefs challenged, and I'm always up for alternate explanations on things that I may take for granted. I will give you that anything in the world can be up for debate including the shape of, I just think that from both of the viewpoints we need to consider history and science if we are to ever understand anything completely. I just have a question for you, with all the photos from space looking at earth do you believe that it is a government conspiricy that led to the making of these photos? and that plan to make people believe it? if so, why do you think the government would want to do that?

I suggest you find yourself a decent geology textbook, or resources on the web, coupled with a bit on the sun/how light travels.  Then compare it with everything you can find on this site, and then go with whatever you think is right.

I am a firm RE'er, by the way, but I applaud you for challenging what you have been told.  Personally, I looked here, and wasn't convinced in the slightest.  I've not seen suitable explanations for too many key things to accept FE (I won't list anything, it's all been posted many times before, and I don't want to derail this thread).

Thank you for your insight. I have always believe that in order to truly stand firm on your beliefs you have to be able to challenge them, if not then they hold no merit to the outside world. I just want to gain an insight into how this theory came about, what struck the inquiry
