Regretfully, it seems that most threads end in a round earther making a wild ad hominem attack (or several) on whichever flat earther he/she was talking to. Quite sad, really.

However bl4ke360 arbitrarily chose to justify his fellow REer's post, Jack Sparrow didn't arbitrarily pick 1493 as the focus year (the fact that he actually got it wrong is beside the point).  That's what I was trying to highlight.  There's a common myth associated with the year 1492 that leads people to erroneously believe that it was accepted belief that the Earth was flat up to around that time.  Lrn2context, Lrn2notjustjumpintoathreadwithoutreadingalltheposts, Lrn2lurkmoar, etc.
