Question regarding thermal equilibrium.
« on: January 27, 2009, 05:56:33 PM »
If there is a giant ice wall surrounding the earth, what keeps it from melting? By the known fact that heat energy flows to cooler objects due to a difference in their internal energy, shouldn't the heat of the ocean flow into the ice wall and melt it?

and by what method does the Sun draw it's energy? Why have we not reached thermal equilibrium after millions of years of the earth's existence?

The ice wall is a mountain range. It just happens to be covered in ice and snow.

because the atmosphere is not hot enough to melt rocks...?

The ice part of the ice wall doesn't melt on FE, for the same reason that the ice caps don't melt on RE.

If I was asked to imagine a perfect deity, I would never invent one that suffers from a multiple personality disorder. Christians get points for originality there.

But the RE ice caps are melting.

The bold is a hint to why it hasn't melted.

Except for the rather significant parts that have melted.

And proves one mountain range has melted how?

???  Who said anything about mountains melting?  I thought we were talking about ice caps.

Except I wasn't. This was a discussion about why the ice wall hasn't melted. The ice wall is not every bit of ice in the antarctic.

A point was raised contending that the RE ice caps don't melt.  I countered that point saying that the RE ice caps are indeed melting.  Your response about mountain ranges melting was irrelevant and off topic to that point.  In other words, a troll.

No.... you went off on a tangent. I brought it back to subject.
