The Opinion of a Man
« on: April 03, 2008, 11:20:19 PM »
I came across these forums while searching something completely unrelated to this "society". Although it struck interest in me somehow.

While looking around I came to a conclusion there are fewer people here believing that the Earth is flat than people that believe the Earth is round. With science aside, my belief is that the world is indeed round. But of course when I first found this site I immediately thought "This place HAS to be a joke.". After reading the FAQ it is "assumed" that only the United States believes of a round earth since we are the only ones with NASA. Lets assume that the entire world believes the world is round, that would disprove your statement that the Government is hiding it for conspiracy, since when can all the governments in the world work together on this conspiracy to hide the fact that the world is indeed flat yet we still have war. Perhaps your come back will be "The US Government has war to hide their conspiracy", the Government will go as far as killing people to hide a pointless theory?

Now I also came here thinking.. Hmm.. What IF Earth was Flat, would that matter? I mean already in our Geography books the world is pretty much shown as flat so from my understanding Textbooks would change very little, the Globe itself will pretty much be all that will change.

Now I'm not a scientist but I like to think I have some common sense when it comes to theories such as this. From what I read it is believed that "When I go outside on the street I see a flat surface", when you're forgetting that the earth is so monstrous that what is in front of us appears flat. Also I believe the size of the earth plays this little optical illusion on us.

Also I saw a post from a guy that I assume is one of the believers of a flat earth. Although I don't quite have the time to put in searching if this has been answered or not but, something I learned in school and I think many who "Paid attention" in class heard that "Newton's discovered the force of gravity on Earth and no matter where it was tested the results were the same". This is a common proof of a round earth so I'm sure it's been mentioned although that alone convinces me that Earth is round.

Now I AM a newcomer here and I don't believe my stay shall be long but I am not here to discourage or prove anyone wrong. What I've stated is simply my opinion without science proof but common sense. I worship the fact that people can believe whatever they wish, that is why we have all these religions. If I wanted to believe that Short 6-eyed Purple skinned men are the cause of my Bad Hairdays then I will but I won't go and say "HEY!! It's impossible that my bad hairdays are because I don't bathe and I'm sure the Government is behind it" instead I put my unique beliefs behind me and live life.

On another note, I still don't know if this forums is entirely serious although I would like to make a suggestion to the "creator" of this "Flat Earth" theory to get on the show called "The Colbert Report", it isn't a public humiliation instead I think, humor behind, Steven Colbert is the most insightful person I've seen. Oh and take your book.

I would think that would lead you to believe the Earth was flat, in accordance with the constant acceleration of the FE at 9.8m/s^2.

(BTW, gravity as a force does not exist.)

Gravity is an acceleration, weight is a force. But the UA makes perfect sense, sort of.

Are you honestly saying that you wouldn't care if you found out that everything you knew about the shape of the earth and nature of the universe were a lie?

As long as everything still works the same (so called satellite tv, gps, weather modeling, etc.), I imagine that most people would get over it eventually.

I would however be concerned as to the true intentions of the "Flowers By Irene" van that has been parked outside my house for the past 9 months.

Hey guys, I just made a new website about the misconceptions of a round earth. These idiots that really think we're on a ball should learn some more about true science. I don't know how to post my site name, but if you go to google and put 'qqqqq' in the search bar and press 'I'm feeling lucky', it comes up instantly. I spent a lot of time working on it for a school project and got an A, so some feedback would be pretty sweet too. I can't stand morons who really think that living on a ball is possible, and a friend sent me here to support our views. Thanks in advance for spending your time on my site  :-*

The Flat Earth Society is British.  I myself am Canadian.

Most countries believe the earth is round, with the possible exception of China, for reasons I won't get into until I've talked more with some people I know there.  All governments are not in on the conspiracy.  Please do a search.

It is impossible to tell what advances might come from new discoveries in science.

I think the main point when someone who isn't Tom says that is that you have no direct evidence that the earth is round.  Just hearsay.

This would more likely be proof of a flat earth.  If RE science was correct, gravitational pull would lessen as one moves further away from the earth.

We have several books.  Steven Colbert is humourous, but I'd hardly call him the most insightful person in the world.  That would be an interesting show, but it would also be somewhat pointless for the FES.
If you can't argue both sdes, you understand neither

It would certainly suck for NASA.
