trying to understand
« on: May 08, 2007, 10:21:45 AM »
I've read through several of the messages threads, and read the FAQ and went on to several links, none of which really helped me understand about Earths relative position in space.  Is earth the equivalent of a giant brick coasting through the cosmos uninhindered by gravity?   My question is what do FE'rs believe about whats beyond the edges of the planet, is there a general consensus?

Some believe it to just be space, others think the antarctic (Ice-wall, whatever) stretches out to infinity

so is "just space" a standard view of the universe?  Stars, comets, meteors, etc.?

Pretty much. Apart from the fact everything's closer together. the simple argument they use when you say 'why isn't the Earth like other planets' is 'The Earth isn't other planets, the Earth is Earth, why should it be the same'

I wonder what avid FEers think of my flat mars thoery

Hey, I for one support the FM theory.

Maybe Mars is really heaven, where us rich, white, male, heterosexual Christians go when we die.

ok, so our "solar" system is in fact closer to us and therefore comprised of much smaller galatic materials than we are led to believe?

and if I'm getting this right from other posts I've been reading, the earth is the center of the solar system, in fact it might be the center of the universe?

Dead centre, and if you believe the infinite plane model, also the bottom of the universe too  ::)

In the FAQ is says that earth doesn't exert any gravitical forces on its inhabitants, instead it is moving at a constant 9.8m/s/s?

caused by the 'Universal Accellerator' (sp?) force, written normally as UA, which some FEers believe in, but Tom Bishop has this weird gravity/UA hybrid thoery which utterly boggles the mind

I'm going to have to say this FE theory seems to have several holes in it.  I searched for atmostphere, it didn't bring anything up.  How does a celestial body keep an atmostphere without the benefit of gravitational pull, and how do other bodies rotate around it without gravity?

We're having a nice discussion about gravity/UA in the 'don't take my word for it...' forum in the Flat Earth Debate & Discussion section if you want to ask there
