Adding the word 'respectable' was unnecessary in the context of his post.
It was added purely to provoke or insult.

It wasn't to provoke insult.  If I would have just said "Do flat earthers have any spokespeople?"... it would be quite a list.  Would you consider Tila Tequila a good representative?  She is a spokesperson.  BUT SHE ISN'T RESPECTABLE in this particular field.

She isn't a spokesperson for FE anymore than you are. Our main spokesperson is John Davis.

Whether or not he is respectable is neither here nor there, but the question, is he a scientist? is quite another matter. If you could point us to some evidence to support that claim that would be helpful, your friend provided this as wasn't helpful but indicative of flat behaviour. With emphasis on the dic.

The topic is "Do flat earthers have any respectable spokespeople?" and I would certainly consider John Davis "respectable".
He makes some apparently ridiculous posts, some of which most certainly were no more than jokes.

As far as John Davis is concerned, "neither here nor there" seems to be the moot point.
His most recent activity on the site seems to be on April 17, 2017.

I'm just curious, as most members as prominent as John Davis usually make some post about heading off somewhere.

John Davis is, of course, a scientist. What is important is that he is also a Zetetic. To be both is to make for a very qualified and respectable flat Earth spokesperson. 

What makes a scientist? It's to have qualifications in one of several disciplines and get a paycheck in at least one of them.

What makes a Zetetic?  To have a much more complex, impressive, and depth of understanding well advanced beyond the simple task of achieving the scientist label. Paycheck not required.
