Kommunist, if something closer to you appears exactly the same as something farther from you, meaning it is larger and faster, it should take the same magnification to view it as the farther object.


Triangulation would require more than just you and your telescope, you would need 2 other people to observe it at the same time from different locations.
Ah, no. It's just 2 observers total. The "triangle" vertexes are observer-1, observer-2, and object.

My mistake, point still holds.

EDIT:  While we're being nit-picky, isn't the plural of "vertex" "verticies?"

No, and my upbringing always showed "verticies" not "vertexes".  The latter hurts my ears when I hear it.

I suggest that it is possible to verify the height of a satellite with a modification to the usual triangularization technique. The same observer at random times could verify the RE prediction. If the satellite appeared as the RE predicts, then we would have confidence in the RE's value for the height. The more observations at more locations would increase the confidence. To obtain the RE prediction, I recommend Heavens Above
