The flat earth theory is complete hogwash, proof 2
« on: September 18, 2011, 09:38:11 AM »
How do you explain the fact that people in the Southern hemisphere (or what we spherical earthers call the Southern Hemisphere) cannot see the north star? The north star is aligned with the north pole. If you used a astrolabe at the north pole, you would see that. Even if the earth was flat, you cannot deny that the north star is aligned with the north pole.

So, when you get to 1 degree above the equator, the reading on the the astrolabe is also one degree. Once you get below the equator, you don't see the north star. According to your theory, however, the same stars should be visible wherever you are on earth. Since this is not the case, your theory is wrong.

Read 32 times and no one has a response? You flat earthers don't have a response for this one, do you?

Is there any consistent "Bendy Light" theory which would explain this?
“The Earth looks flat, therefore it is” FEers wisdom.

Bendy light making a star get lower and lower on the horizon as you go south and then disappearing abruptly once you get to the equator? I don't think so.

The problem with bendy light is that if it did exist, Rowbotham would have never seen the ship with his telescope as the light would have bent away before reaching him and thus there would have been no flat earth hypothesis.  Since he did see the ship, his experiment negates the bendy light hypothesis.

Yeah they just pick what they think has a smart sounding response to it.

The answer to this is in the FAQ. And I must apologize for our lack of response; we've been rather inactive recently, due to boredom.

Respectfully disagree.  It's all in the titling.

That too. I wouldn't even have clicked on the link were it not that there were so many duplicate titles. I thought it was spam.

pppffffff oh please.

You're in denial, THATS the real reason. You have here something that you can't debunk, and so you come up with this utterly lame excuse.

Boredom and titling????? really????

Thats all you can come up with?

I don't understand what the question is. Even in RET the North Star is not above the North pole. Look at any "time lapse" photo and you'll see the North Star rotates, just like any other star. There is no star directly above the North poll. Astrolabes are approximations.

so what if it isn't directly above the north pole it still isn't visible from the southern hemisphere.

Which coincides with FET on how the stars rotate. Some of the stars in the Northern Hemisphere simply are not visible from the Southern. This is like asking in RET why you cannot see the other side of the moon. It is simply that how the Earth and the heaven rotate does not allow you to.

please explain in more detail how that works if the earth is flat the north star wouldn 't just be viewed from the center half of the earth and the southern star from the outer half
