Our brains are similar to a video recorder. We simply record and play back.
The reason why very few of us can recall (or playback) effectively, is because we are trained not to.
We are basically side tracked by life itself that is mapped out for us. Worries and work and fear and sadness, as well as the master-stroke of having our brain fuctioning system rendered into organised chaos that we accept as normal.
Some people can get past all of this, or most of it and can actually use their brains for what they are capable of.
This is why autistic/asperger people can do many things that we cannot.
You tend to find that severe autistic people show no affection. Many show massively different traits that to us are bordering on what we deem as, the genius level.
We all have the ability to do all of the things but we have to channel or file those things properly. Basically organise the chaos into organised filing.
That way we can have almost total recall.
That's why our dreams sometimes make little sense. It's because our recalling minds are sifting through the days/weeks/months of chaos that's scattered about.
We can't pick up the files and orderly place them into a dreamland movie that makes rational sense in most part, because we are picking at random. Scraping the floor of the office of our brains and reeling off whatever comes first.
There's a reason why the dinosaur chasing you disappears and you find yourself dangling from a bridge above a volcano, whilst being shot at by skeleton pilots on winged frisbies.
