Private space / high orbit travel now possible.

Very soon (even now) you can buy your way on to a vessel that will travel to high orbit or completly in space.  From there you will be able to look down with your own eyes and see the earth for what it is may that be flat or round.  This will put an end to the arguement then.

It's about time, too.

It costs each person millions of currency units.

Right now it does.  But in the very near future travelling to the outskirts of our atmosphere will be a booming tourist trade.  At least it will prove which theory is correct.

Ok.. but it hasn't happened yet, so trying to use it as evidence against FE is a bit silly.

I agree.  But at least sometime soon we'll have a definitive answer which cannot be ignored.

Even when we get up there, or one of our trusted friends gets up there with his own camera and we watch him (or her, or whatever gender indentity preference they like to go by) download the untouched images onto a computer that we can guarantee hasn't been 'got at', all we will know is what pattern the light made on the receptors behind the camera lens.  I think it's a dangerous step to assume from that pattern that the earth is flat or round.  Until the issue of how light moves around can be resolved beyond all doubt, I think it's still accademic.

That's not even going to matter when space tourism takes off though.  It'll get cheaper and cheaper every year until most mid-wage earners can afford to go.  If the earth proves to be round, I'd love to see the FE'ers trying to fob it off as "government conspiracy" regardless of the photographic evidence.
