Hi, I'm New
« on: March 25, 2008, 08:02:16 PM »
Hello. I'm new here... hoping to expand my horizons by hearing others scientific ideas. Er... so... hi.  :)

I'm not really here to argue with anyone. Or say that the earth is flat or round and try to force that opinion on everyone... I just think it's an intellectual privilege to be able to hear opinionated people say what they think about... everything. I might participate in some of the conversations, but I don't have any plans (at the moment) to barge in here and start debating with everyone.

So, I'm glad to be here.

Hahaha.

I think the earth is round, personally. I read the FAQs, and decided to rule out all photographs taken by NASA and stuff, and take all personally tangible evidence... and I still think there's more proof of the earth being round than flat.

I guess I'll go through the judgement phase now?

What evidence have you seen personally with your own eyes suggesting that the earth is actually a globe?

The sun setting at different location throughout the year.  GPS

How do the movements of the sun or readings of a GPS gadget prove that the earth is a globe?

What about any of that proves that the earth is a globe?
Because there is no need for magical forces.

Also predictability.

Except for that unknown, unproven, unexplained hypothetical force/bending of space/sub-atomic particle called Gravity which keeps the earth moving around the sun, right?

Lovely how you pick parts again. Explain the predictability.

What about it? The charts and equations for most RE phenomena are equally applicable to the Flat Earth model. On the tides for example; the equation which predicts the water level is a short algebraic equation which predicts the water level based on historic charts and tables along with the present time of the year and time of the day. There is nothing in the equations which suggests that the tides are caused by any particular phenomena. It's a fact that any recurring phenomena which comes in patterns can be predicted with an equation.

The same fact goes for the Lunar Eclipse and the variations of the pendulum. There is nothing behind the predictive equations which gives us a mechanism for the phenomena. Those same tables and equations are equally applicable to a system which gives an alternative explanation for the phenomena.

Based on historic tables and charts I can predict that tomorrow's high tide at a location will reach a certain height. My prediction does not tell me HOW the tide was created, or anything which gives me the precise mechanism behind the tide's creation. Based on my equation I can attribute a number of explanations to the true and underlying mechanisms for the phenomena. A predictive equation is just a predictive equation and nothing more.

Weird how every thread turns into a debate into if the world is flat or not. Welcome Kid, I'm new here to for about the same reasons.

I just imagine Tom Bishop naked. Either that, or I go to goatse.cx. That's how I get my thrills.
Here's an explanation for ya. Lurk moar. Every single point you brought up has been posted, reposted, debated and debunked. There is a search function on this forum, and it is very easy to use.
