I've personally been arguing for Model 5.

MODEL 1:
- Infinite Earth
- Earth has gravity
- Celestial bodies have gravity

Model 2:
- Infinite Earth
- Earth DOES NOT have gravity
- Celestial bodies have gravity

MODEL 3:
- Infinite Earth
- Earth DOES NOT have gravity
- Celestial bodies DO NOT have gravity

MODEL 4:
- Finite Earth
- Earth has gravity
- Celestial bodies have gravity

MODEL 5:
- Finite Earth
- Earth DOES NOT have gravity
- Celestial bodies have gravity

MODEL 6:

The premise of this thread is pretty unscientific, to my mind anyway. When there are competing, legitimate theories as to a certain fact, why should one be accepted as "canon" without any real qualification other than "we like this one better"? Why can't we discuss all the possibilities with equal consideration?

For the record, I voted 6, but 3 is a close second. I have to admit, the jury's still out on the extent of the Earth, for me at least (though I lean towards the finite Earth interpretation). To paraphrase Parallax, "whatever is beyond those great escarpments of ice is forever lost to human comprehension".

Lots of people don't like string theory, myself included. People seem to think its the de-facto theory because the TV producers like it...however, many scientists scoff at its inherent untestability...

4 is Round Earth theory. If the three premises are held to be correct, the Earth necessarily scrunches into a sphere.

Not necessarily. Some have held that the dark energy, if its capable of accelerating us up, can also counteract the scrunching force of gravity. Maybe that's pushing it, but some people hold it.
