How can the earth be flat?
« on: March 22, 2008, 08:04:05 PM »
There are several things that doesnt make sense even if we considder that we dont have any actual pictures of the earth taken from space.

For one you can use the very basic geometry and astronomy to determine that the sun is atleast several times bigger than the earth this means that if the sun is shining anywhere on the earth if it was flat it would shine on the ENTIRE earth, hence meaning it would be night and day on the same time all around the globe.

Another thing is the end of the world... if it was flat you could actually stare down in it, but nobody have done so. Also the water, if the world was flat the water wouldnt stay, it would constatly be drawn to the "worlds end".

Also, even if we accept that the moonlanding was a hoax, to show that the US were superrior to the USSR back in the cold war. It doesnt account for the fact that at this very moment we have a team of people who are orbiting the earth and actually watching it spin in the international space station.

I dont mean any offence about this but I really didnt think anyone actually still believed that the earth was flat, I learned about you from a video on youtube. Another question I would like to ask... if the world is flat, what is on the other side? I mean you have to have that in your theory somewhere even a flat circle (like a coin) has 2 sides, so if this side is the world we know according to you, what is on the other side?

Sorry if I made various misspellings, my main language is not english.

Hope you reply,

On March 21-22 the sun is directly overhead at the equator and appears 45 degrees above the horizon at 45 degrees north and south latitude. As the angle of sun above the earth at the equator is 90 degrees while it is 45 degrees at 45 degrees north or south latitude, it follows that the angle at the sun between the vertical from the horizon and the line from the observers at 45 degrees north and south must also be 45 degrees. The result is two right angled triangles with legs of equal length. The distance between the equator and the points at 45 degrees north or south is approximately 3,000 miles. Ergo, the sun would be an equal distance above the equator.

Therefore the sun is a very small body.

There is no "world's end." The earth is an infinite plane. Read more Rowbotham.

Unknown. Man has never penetrated the earth's crust.

Actually, we don't.

OP, please read the FAQ and familiarize yourself with the Flat Earth Model.

This is flawed.  It does not take into account the massive refraction necessary in the FE atmosphere.  You cannot assume that light travels from the sun to the earth in a straight line.  Therefore, a 45-45 right triangle is not formed, and the height of the sun is unknown.

In fact, the measurement of the height of any celestial body must be skewed because of refraction.  You cannot know the height of the body unless you know the refracting properties of the atmosphere.  Please revise your math.
