Flat Earth Debate / St. Patrick's Day Green Lights
« on: March 21, 2015, 05:38:04 AM »
What exactly caused me to see Northern lights in NY? There can't be solar wind on a Phlogiston plate, can there?

Flat Earth Debate / If you can prove FE, I will begin arguing for FE
« on: March 20, 2015, 07:05:03 PM »
I am hosting a challenge to try to find proof and evidence to FE. There is no money involved, only my changing of sides. I will not be the one deciding, but the public will be. A topic titled "I won Misero's FE Challenge" should be created, with this being its body.
Quote
I believe I have won Misero's FE Challenge. [Link to the post in which you created a claim that you believe is proof for FE.]
Please vote above.
The poll will be an anonymous poll, with 2 answers
  • Yes(Explain Below)
  • No(Explain Below)
The rules of the challenge are as follows:
  • You must have math and/or an experiment to back up any claim that is not under the lines of one of the "Laws of Physics". Anything classified as a "theory","hypothesis",or "notion" will not be accepted without a math and/or an experiment to back it up.
  • An experiment must be taken in video in order to remove tampering with the results in most ways.
  • Math must be run through a computer program(Any calculator program/a simple program to do it.), not a pen and paper.
  • Any rebuttals that go unexplained for your application will be immediately rejected.
  • The Scientific Method must be used to conduct experiments, to keep things on a level everyone here understands fairly well. This also applies to the defenition of "Laws of Physics", "Theory","Hypothesis","Notion"
  • No religious text may be cited, as those books are not accepted by everyone as books of pure fact.
  • You may take as much time as you like to develop this with rebuttals being solved and such.
I wish you luck.

The Lounge / My Thoughts on Free Will
« on: March 20, 2015, 05:38:24 PM »
Humans and every life-form is completely, 100% predictable. Though it may take a computer lifetimes to calculate this equation, it is real. We have no free will. It is all a complex game, there is only one random thing, and we may even find it is not. Sub-atomic particles are random. Superposition. We are just extremely complex computers. A computer program is limited to how it is programmed. A learning robot? The robot is simply writing things to memory and reading them based of of algorithms embedded in itself. No Bible involved, we have no free will. Now, I cannot show you this equation, as it is unknown, but scientists have figured out that there is one. What will we do when it is discovered?
It's a scary thought.

Flat Earth General / Aether is God
« on: March 18, 2015, 05:23:52 PM »
Aether is unverifiable by common physics. It is only believed as a placeholder for things we do not understand, and has infinite properties. It can:
  • Act as matter, having mass, volume, etc. without being matter
  • Be created in what appears to be an infinite amount by a force that has never been described.
  • Can cause the teleportation of complex cellular organisms with brains more complex than any computer ever built, while retaining all neurological states and signals in the brain going uninterrupted.
  • Allows exact readings from a spectrometer that would give the illusion of nuclear fusion in sun while it is made of a substance that has never been found on earth, and therefore has no evidence to its existence, which proves it false
  • Can form itself into matter with the same amount of aether being required to create a hydrogen atom and a Ununoctium atom, which would be impossible under commonly accepted physics.
  • Is a living thing and is intelligent, though having no central nervous system to cause it to do this.
  • Understand proper English to communicate.
Off the top of my head, and the list gets longer every day. Anything it can't do? Have decent evidence, maybe.

Flat Earth General / Simplifying the Complex
« on: March 15, 2015, 09:02:18 AM »
FE'rs tend to simplify complex things, likely due to their lack of understanding of any science. For example, comparing salt in an environment with air friction, 'downwards' gravity to the primordial rock and dust from the creation of the solar system. We cannot explain the complex in simple, small words. It doesn't work. I know, it's hard to make sense, FE'rs.

Flat Earth Debate / Neutrinos
« on: March 15, 2015, 07:07:37 AM »
Neutrinos were fired downwards to a receiver on the other side of earth. It received them. Neutrinos could go either way, though. If  you were to fire a neutrino on a FE, perfectly straight, you would one day hit a receiver somewhere far away, would you not? So don't say a stupid Neutrinos don't exists card, as it makes you look stupider than we already see you as.

Suggestions & Concerns / JRowe being hacked?
« on: March 13, 2015, 07:23:09 PM »
Not sure if this is a joke, can an admin clear this up?(Or a mod, not sure if they can know when a password resets), did JRowe actually have his password changed? If so, you should probably send him an email regarding it.

Flat Earth General / Why the Zetetic Method is Stupid
« on: March 07, 2015, 05:50:34 AM »
Round earth confirmed. I observe a curved horizon, the earth is round, no experiments/math needed. See how this works? Everything and anything is true. Hallucinating? That's just reality, according to the Zetetic Method. Dreaming? Well, you're observing in your subconscious, so that's all true.

See the problem with the Zetetic Method? It pretty much allows anything to be truth.

Flat Earth Debate / Magnetism
« on: March 06, 2015, 12:44:33 PM »
First off: polar switches. They happen. Not only do they happen every 200k years on earth, they happen every 11 years on the sun. Solid magma, clay pots, they all point to the oncoming polar switch. Get your radiation shields set for about 2515, because the magnetic field will shut down temporarily(as in, for centuries) and we better have a solution by then.

What causes the FE's magnetic field, from the map that I could find on the wiki, my compass should point west. What causes the (presumably) molten iron to swirl and make a magnetic field.

Checkmate.

Flat Earth Debate / Infinite Energy!
« on: February 28, 2015, 09:52:29 AM »
So when can we go and get our Utopian society? But seriously, is the UA infinite energy? What is it's origins? (It's not Phlogiston, as there is no sample of it to be found, therefore it does not exist until proven so.) It must have some constant fuel, right? All these holes upon lack of evidence destroys the UA.

Flat Earth General / Who are the REAL free thinkers?
« on: February 28, 2015, 04:15:03 AM »
I do question everything I hear. I just don't deny things until my questioning of them proves them wrong. That's the difference between FE'rs and me. I don't instantly say "Conspiracy" or "Fake!" without sufficient evidence.

The Lounge / Aliens!
« on: February 22, 2015, 05:23:44 PM »
What is your opinion on extraterrestrial life? I believe that it is probably an intelligent thing that has decent technology, if not better than ours. But are they abducting people on earth? No! I see no evidence to that.
What do you think?

Flat Earth Q&A / Gravitational Equation
« on: February 21, 2015, 04:47:12 AM »
For those of you FE'rs that believe in gravity, do you accept the commonly used formula?
Or do you use a different one to find the force of gravity?
I don't want to be called out as "WRONG!" because I used the wrong equation.

Suggestions & Concerns / A set standard for warnings
« on: February 20, 2015, 09:47:28 AM »
Due to the recent debate over warnings and their inconsistencies between moderators, I think a format should be implemented to prevent such complaints. Warnings would both be issued as a post in the thread that it is located in, and as a PM. Both the post and PM would follow this format:

Quote
(Post Quoted Here)
Your post brings up the following issues:
  • A list of rules broken by this post

If a site moderator were to implement a button that says "Warn" under the post for moderators, a popup appearing with the list of rules to be checked off. A dispute for the warning should be done either in S&C or as a response to the PM.

Flat Earth General / An outlook on FE
« on: February 20, 2015, 07:53:05 AM »
An outlook on FE's views. This is part of an episode of a children's cartoon, Steven Universe. Interestingly familiar.
" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Click here to go straight to the part spoken
For those of you who cannot watch it, this person who thinks the world is run by snake people, when confronted with claims against his, he says "Don't get so hung up on those minor facts. Truth is about more than that! Truth is a feeling in your gut that you know is true! Truth is searching for anything that proves you're right, no matter how small, and holding on to that no matter what." The child then responds "That seems like the opposite of truth".

Heh.
Funny how this matches the Fe'rs exactly.

Flat Earth Debate / Air Density
« on: February 16, 2015, 07:00:02 AM »
We all agree that air loses density the higher you go up. But why does it do that? On a round earth, gravity is becomes slowly weaker and less able to hold an atmosphere as you move away from the earth. What causes this one a FE?

Suggestions & Concerns / Policy on Split Threads
« on: February 14, 2015, 12:38:30 PM »
I have stated this in another thread, but I think that it would just be better to put it in it's own thread. It's very simple, but I think it would clear up some issues.
Allowing moderators to name the split threads themselves opens up an opportunity for some snide remarks from them.
As an example for this idea, let's say there is some debate in a Q&A thread called "Where is the south pole?". A moderator splits off the debate part. The thread should automatically titled

"Re:Where is the south pole?(Split Topic)"

If it cannot be automatically done, we could just instruct moderators to use this format.

Flat Earth General / What makes FE sound?
« on: February 13, 2015, 07:51:44 PM »
Why is FE more credible by the repeated observations by stuff other than our(according to you) untrustworthy eyes. What makes FE a sounder theory than RE? Please provide stacks and stacks of peer-reviewed papers. I would post the ones of RE but the site would likely overload :P.
Joking aside, please tell me what makes FE sounder. And I want something along the lines of a bulletin list of multiple claims that do not sit with a RE.

Flat Earth General / A Nice Little Razor
« on: February 09, 2015, 06:42:49 PM »
Quote
The best idea is the one requiring less assumptions

Let's make a list of FE assumptioms, then we'll go over RE assumptions. Okay? Add what you want to these lists, and we'll find out the more viable theory by this razor. I am leaving out things that have been proven and tested, as those are not assumptions, it is logic to say that these things are true if they have been proven multiple times, with no conspiracy involved.

FE:
  • Light bends in a way that causes your eyes to see ships sink below the horizon
  • There is a source of infinite energy
  • Said source of energy is propelling earth up at 9.81 m/s
  • Gravity only functions on stars to earth, as in not stars to stars
RE:
  • I cannot think of commonly-accepted RE assumptions, only things supported by things more than visual observations, as scepti said, our eyes are like telescopes, but bad ones. Please add some things if you want, FE.

Please add on, and if you want something off, present accepted facts/experiments/peer reviewed papers that have said things. Otherwise they stay assumptions.

Flat Earth General / What makes FET credible?
« on: February 06, 2015, 02:30:30 PM »
(This is an edit on my other thread that was moved to CN.)

What makes FET better than Global Earth(Not Theory, note this.)? RE has more:
  • Evidence
  • Supporters
and less:
  • Sub-theories to support it
  • Flaws in said theories

What makes you different?

Flat Earth Q&A / How does the Earth look?
« on: February 04, 2015, 01:07:10 PM »
So, Vauxy, you HAVE seen the 'Flat Earth in all it's glory', did you happen to get a glimpse of how it looked? According to you, you 'saw' the aether, which implies it being less of a force and more of a type of wind.

Suggestions & Concerns / Religious Discussion
« on: February 04, 2015, 12:17:53 PM »
Let's face it- Religious discussion is useless for discussion, debate, or question and answer. It is not able to be debated without walking on a minefield of sorts, somebody who is of another religion cannot accept it as an answer without changing their faith completely. There is a forum for religious discussion, and I believe it should be kept there and there only.

Flat Earth General / One single thing that doesn't line up
« on: February 01, 2015, 04:08:51 PM »
You notice that RE explains all of your "theories", which are groundless in fact, with theories that are backed up by each other, a bit like gears. What is one thing that RE doesn't explain, rather than saying something stupid like "WHAT DOESN'T LINE UP IN FE!!!!!!!!!!!!!", just humor me.

Flat Earth General / FE "Theory" of Creation
« on: February 01, 2015, 07:41:55 AM »
I am familiar with the "theory" of Phogiston, but I want to know if any of you others believe in something else. And I don't want to hear any religious stuff, I want something that makes sense here.

The Lounge / Who IS worthy of scepti's massive intellect?
« on: February 01, 2015, 07:11:20 AM »
It seems that when scepti is unable to answer a question without opening a minefield, he says "YOU AREN'T WORTHY!". So who IS worthy of this vast knowledge?

Flat Earth Q&A / Increasing CO2 and it's effects on an infinite plane
« on: January 31, 2015, 10:41:07 AM »
The level of CO2 in the atmosphere is rising, and if you deny it, well, it's the "GLOBAL WARMING" conspiracy. Which is false unless we get some evidence other than hand waving and ear plugging. So, I can observe the effects of increased CO2 in the atmosphere due to the increase of quantity and intensity of storms. So how does this work on an infinite plane? Wouldn't it all just disperse infinitely, causing no change in the level of CO2? And please provide evidence to support your claims, otherwise they are false.

57
Flat Earth Debate / What are those stars?
« on: January 26, 2015, 06:15:29 PM »
The stars are, according to Vauxhall, real! They actually take up space, so this brings up EVEN MORE questions. How big are they? Why do they not pull the FE off it's UA and start flipping us around and kill us? Why does the FE not have it's own gravity to nullify the need for inventing the UA?

58
Flat Earth General / How long are the Zaratan's tilomeres?
« on: January 24, 2015, 09:24:09 AM »
If you are not familiar with tilomeres, they are the endings on the DNA of a creature, each time a cell divides, it gets shorter. The longer the tilomeres, the longer, in the best conditions, you can live. When your tilomeres run out, you die.

So, the Zaratan's tilomeres must be measurable in meters to be billions of years old.

Suggestions & Concerns / Moderation
« on: January 21, 2015, 10:21:58 AM »
In my thread "The Second Law of Thermodynamics", jroa derailed a thread, or more accurately, posted on a derailing thread and did nothing. I was told to post this here, and here it is.
I thought one of your buddies claimed that you could take a bathroom scale to different floors in a building and see weight changes, yet I can't see it when moving from almost sea level to the top of a mountain.  Hmm, sounds suspicious to me.  It sounds like a load of BS to me, actually.

Flat Earth Debate / Second Law of Thermodynamics
« on: January 20, 2015, 12:20:18 PM »
The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that, paraphrasing a bit, there can be no such thing as infinite energy. So, is the UA infinite, or will it one day run out? If it isn't infinite, what caused it to start blowing?
