Flat Earth General / Re: Someone please help me with this.
« on: December 03, 2014, 07:34:15 AM »
The OP said that he could see the curvature of the Earth, but pilots say they can't.  Did you not read the thread?

Actually.. the OP never said that. He just made the question. It was another poster who said that scientific community cannot get an agreement on this. Seems to me I did read the thread.

Btw, why do you respond to every single post with an attempt to insult/ridicule someone? Maybe it's your style (not a very friendly one) but why the bitterness? If you want to respond, do it. No need to always say a negative sentence about the poster. If you continue to do so, be prepared to be retaliated. Not speaking about me, but in a general sense. Respect is something you earn.

The point is that pilots can not even say for sure that they can see curvature of the Earth from a commercial jet, yet, you RE'ers come here claiming that you have seen it.  Do you not understand English?

What pilots see or say according to that is sitll irrelevant. Commercial planes wouldn't reach their destinations on time and under today's variables if it wasn't for a round earth. I could even be so sure that most if not all commercial pilots KNOW the earth is round. All flight calculations are based on this.

I don't know.

Well then, maybe you people should not try to pass off hypothetical situations as proof?

Don't ignore the rest of the post.

Oh, I am sorry.  Did the rest of your post have anything to do with the scientists that fly commercial airplanes high enough to see the curvature of the Earth?

Despite your attempts to try and intimidate someone ( may not be the case) I don't really know what is your point. All I've seen is you dealing with strawmen arguments. No one even said that scientists fly commercial planes. Aeronautics after all, exists because of science in general sense. If we take into account that you need scientific knowledge and practices to be able to fly a commercial plane, I would say that every pilot is a scientist. Not in the way of discovering things, but in the way of using it.

I don't know. Probably more than one has done scientific studies in other fields. After all, aeronautics has to use science, otherwise, planes wouln't be able to fly.

He said scientists, not pilots.

Even that, it's an irrelevant "disagreement". As far as I've seen, not 2 Flat earthers agree on important things.

Flat Earth General / Re: Gravity. What is it as a force?
« on: December 02, 2014, 11:37:48 AM »
AS far as I've learned, gravity is a description of a force that pulls everything to the planet's core. Strength of such force depends on the object's mass. That's why it takes more effort to lift up more densed things than others.
Ok, so basically gravity at the core is pulling everything towards it from all directions on your globe.
What is this force that is pulling and how can it be measured as a force?

Emm that force is gravity. How does it do it I don't really know. That's like another topic.

Flat Earth General / Re: Gravity. What is it as a force?
« on: December 02, 2014, 11:35:48 AM »
You need to measure mass. It is on the ground. to measure it, you have to pick it up to use a man made scale to measure that mass.
So tell me what force is on that mass to allow this measurement. There must be a force on it. If it's what I think you're going to say, then explain how and why this happens.

copy pasta from wiki on "weight":  "...In science and engineering, the weight of an object is usually taken to be the force on the object due to gravity.[1][2] Its magnitude (a scalar quantity), often denoted by an italic letter W, is the product of the mass m of the object and the magnitude of the local gravitational acceleration g;[3] thus: W = mg. The unit of measurement for weight is that of force, which in the International System of Units (SI) is the newton. For example, an object with a mass of one kilogram has a weight of about 9.8 newtons on the surface of the Earth, and about one-sixth as much on the Moon. In this sense of weight, a body can be weightless only if it is far away from any gravitating mass."

If you want to know how this happens look up Isaac Newton on how two bodies attract each  other in an amount proportionate to each other's mass. Evidence of this would be tidal forces.

It contradicts all your denpressure stuff so why the thread?
In your own words please. Put some effort in and explain it. remember I am a dummy and I want to learn the basics of it.

How much I weigh is the result of the earth's pull on my body.
, Ok, so gravity is pulling on your body. So does gravity only work pulling downwards?

Toward the earth's center.

The Sun is not a solid celestial object, have you forgot it again? Don't you know that you cannot see the sun and the stars in free space? If the sun and the stars are solid celestial objects, we should be able to see them in free space. Nobody knows how sun really works.. It's just a surface, a converter of energy from another dimension (counter space)...

The amount of ignorance in one small paragraph...

Wait, you actually believed something sceptic said?

Gravity is real. Pick an object, let it fall and will hit the ground because of that. The theory of  gravity is another thing. As far as science knows, appears to be related to objects' mass.

why does that last answer sound like a total cop out?

I don't simply believe that some people think humans aren't smart enough to figure out the earth's shape and how to navigate around it.

emm maybe cartography? pictures of earth from space?

Flat Earth General / Re: Is FET Falsifiable?
« on: November 26, 2014, 08:06:33 AM »
I am not sure why no one is considering the possibility that the Earth is much bigger than currently believed. The circle which is lit by the sun has pretty much the same size as we all know it, but the Earth itself might be many times larger.
What stops anyone flying or sailing to these unknown zones?

This should be PPPretty obvious... NASA GUARDS! Fear them

Flat Earth General / Re: The Round Earth Molten Core (We Are Not Melting)

there's a guy, an expert, he buries boxes full of TNT in the middle of some desert, about ten feet deep.
then he detonates it.

then, and here's the clever part, he listens for echos, with a convoluted stethoscope, and has thus determined much and more about the 'earths core'.

science, it's mostly really stupid.

Yet it gives you your computer and internet to type that post and have it sent.

I just appeal to people's logic and commone sense and ability to actaully see things for the logic that they are, against blatant bullshit.
This pretty much sums up why we seldom see people agreeing with Scepti's theories.
My theories aren't for people like you. They are for people that can think for themselves; not pretend scientists with science fiction books at hand.

I just don't understand why do you feel you  have the right to show this arrogance. What exactly have you done to earn this right? My suggestion is: If you have a theory that could disprove gravity, you should consider have it peer-reviewed and get your Nobel Prize at once. Well, that is if you really have it...

His words don't mean that it ends exactly at Jupiter. He just used example of the wide variety of pictures there are. He could have said from Earth to Moon, or Earth to Mars.

jroa, did  you mean to say that someone on the sun took pictures of Pluto ? Correct me if I mis-interpret your post. I'm confused.

I am not the one who made the claim.  I was just trying to clarify NewtonMan's statement.

You've actually tripped yourself up here with yet another of your rhetorical straw man responses made earlier...

"Satellites landed on the sun and took pictures?"  And if you truly couldn't comprehend the thrust of NewtonMan's comment as everybody else here did, there there really ain't much hope for you my friend LOL.

NewtonMan said that there are thousands of pictures taken from the sun to Jupiter.  I was simply trying to figure out if he really believed this, or if he was just confused about the statement that he made.  Do you see how asking for clarification works?

I believe there is a little semantic problem. He didn't mean from the sun as if standing on the sun's surface. But pictures that goes in variety from the Sun to Jupiter.

I will play a little devi'ls advocate here. I believe what scepti's is trying to say is since dogs have a more refined ear than the average human, if not all, it will detect a thunder slightly before than a human. Way too different than hearing diffrent ranges of frequency.

Pictures from space are always real, right?
if you don't agree, gather funds, hire engineers, train astronauts,go to space and prove me wrong.

OK.  Just give me around 20 billion dollars and I will get started on it.  ::)
there's no need, you can just accept all the pictures/videos and proofs about the round earth,it costs absolutely nothing and you might learn something.

Yeah, I am sure that all NASA photos are real.  ::)

Don't you realize that NASA gets busted all the time with their faked pictures?

Hmm I'm sure you must realize that before claiming a picture is fake, you must be prepared to back it up.

Google "Fake NASA Pics" and you will get all kinds of evidence.

Still I wouldn't want to think you are implying a false dichotomy. Even if the whole NASA Organization could be proven to be fake, that doesn't mean the earth isn't round.
Humasn can make mistakes, unconscious or on purpose, you cannot fake the Earth's shape.

Your claim was that because we have pictures from "space", then the Earth must be round.  My rebuttal was that NASA fakes pictures all the time, and therefore, their pictures cannot be used as indisputable proof.  Do you see how a debate works now?

In fact I can see flaws in your reasoning. Typing "space" already tells me you have made your decision and are nto viewing things in a neutral point. You are starting with your conclusion and working your way backwards. This is the total opposite of what Science does.
