Hi Guys :)
I’ve heard a reason for the Government and every other authority who could possibly see the Earth
is lying to us as an excuse for a big cash grab concerning space exploration.

I wonder why this is necessary. From when we first started to fly, people would have turned their eyes
to the Moon and stars, and wondered what was out there.
A Government might fund some research and exploration to fly as high as possible to see what we find.

So why is there a conspiracy?
We are the same curious creatures, so if something prevented us from travelling as far as we could,
why wouldn’t we work on that (and tell the people)?
There is certainly military advantage for a Nation to gain as high a view point of Earth as possible,
so there’s still every reason for a Space Race between Nations.
If we were racing to the Moon, and found that we couldn’t, why wouldn’t the competing Nation call out the “winner” as a fraud if the USA was lying.

These questions would all be the same regardless of the people at the top thinking the Earth was flat or round to begin with.

Flat Earth Debate / QFH Antenna

Hi Guys :)

I live in Australia, and just successfully made a QFH antenna.
You can Google/Wiki about that, but basically it’s an antenna designed to be roughly
as sensitive for signals overhead, and all the way down to the horizon,
but discriminate against signals from any negative elevation.

For a round Earth this means signals received from anywhere below the horizon in any direction
are reflected from something, and not directly originating from the transmitter’s direction.

For matters of timing (especially GPS) this is important because a signal of unknown propagation path
carries useless timing information. The timing information was only useful if the signal took a direct path.
It can be demonstrated in this case that signals allowed from a negative elevation will
have undesired effect on timing information.

Or Cyclones/Hurricanes/Typhoons as they are commonly called spin in one direction according
to which hemisphere they occur on.
On a flat earth disc this would be either the inside or outside half I presume.
A cyclone also cannot exist within 4 degrees of the equator, and therefore ever cross the equator.

Can any flat Earth hypothesis supporter provide a reason why this might be the case?

I presume the equator is an imaginary line circling the centre of a flat earth disc.

So if we do this at a few different locations either side of the equator, what then?

Ok Guys,
I'm bored and up for another round.
Let's say the Earth is Flat, and although GPS works,
there's no machinery in space, so it must be ground based.

The relatively poor GPS hardware in an iPhone can provide an Altitude with estimated accuracy of 5 mtrs without waiting long.

It is my position that in order for GPS to determine your Altitude,
the transmitting antennas must be above the receiver at all times.
So how does the GPS determine Altitude?

Hmm, this could turn into a debate, but probably only amongst flat Earthers.

I would like to know how to represent a map grid on a flat Earth circular disc model.

Is the -90 degree line of Latitude (the point of the South Pole) now a big circle around the edge of the disc?

Is the equator still in the middle?

Is the tropic of Cancer and Capricorn in the expected, evenly spaced locations?

Hi Guys,

It is my position that the GPS system alone is enough tho prove the existence of satellites.
Ground based cell towers making the whole thing work is ridiculous.
The GPS system determines your position with triliteration, not triangulation. There's a difference.
The GPS system can tell you your current altitude. This would not be possible otherwise.

But something I found interesting lately is the Haversine formula.
I have implemented it personally.
Not only does it tell you the shortest route from any location on the globe to any other,
but also calculates the distance (not accounting for terrain of course).

The formula assumes the Earth is a sphere, which is not quite accurate according to RET,
it is a slight ellipsoid bulging a little at the equator.

I think you are a bunch of trolls.

A veteran balloon photographer has set a world record altitude for amateur aerial photography
(39.5 Km) using a Canon camera running a custom script.

Hey Guys,
Noticed while observing the Sun set at the time a Sun time calculator said it would for my location and timezone,
that as the Sun set, it illuminated the bottoms of all clouds in the sky from East to West.
Another victory for RET!

It seemed to me that the curvature of the earth was apparent, and I spent some time trying to think of a means to test if this was a real observation or an illusion. In the end I decided it was an illusion, but it was a strong illusion. Overall my main feeling was of surprise. I am often surprised by the situations that I find myself in.

So he thinks it's an illusion, but obviously sees something you don't see in the photograph.
He observes that the Earth is curved.

First post, from Australia, where we like to live on the edge!!!
I came straight here with questions from any genuine believer rather than for debate (although I'm up for one).
I have spent some time reading the FAQ, and some posts. Understand you don't want to answer
the same questions over & over, etc. Forgive that I can't digest the entire concept and forum quickly!

Funny that this week I considered what I'd think of the lunar cycle if I lived in an era when the majority believed the Earth was flat.

Q1: I read about the GPS system in the FAQ, but no information on what are called geostationary satellites.
These are the type that hover over a continent transmitting pay TV among other information.
According to a flat Earth theory, these would have to hover over the Earth in an almost stationery position
for many years with very little deviation in their position, since many dishes on Earth are focussing their beam
into a LNB connected to their sat TV decoders.
Does that not sound like a greater feat then sending a shuttle to the moon?

How is a computer program able to use trigonometry to calculate Sun & moon rise and set times (past, present, and future)
using formulas that take into account fictitious diameters of celestial bodies and degrees of atmospheric refraction?
Could a flat Earth theory based formula ever possibly be used to calculate past present and future Sun & moon rise and set times?
I would like to see one that takes into account FET movement, distance, and size of these celestial objects.
