but why doesn't rifting occur in a single line in your theory, rather than with three rift arms? there have to be three rift arms if the earth is a sphere, try it yourself - take a ping pong ball, and make a dent in it - you see three indents coming from the spot you dented. but try the same thing with a paper plate - you just get a straight crease. why don't we see the same thing on a earth, if it is flat?

He has a point.  Someone should be along to hand-wave it away soon.
