It's a bit of a misquote, what he actually said was true. "Tide comes in, tide goes out, you can't explain that" and the guy couldn't because a) the retardedness of O'Reilly had stunned him and b) the prick barely let him get a word in edgewise.

Correct.  Partially.  He couldn't explain it because no one can explain gravity.  FE FTW!!!

But they can explain gravity.

Little "Circular" diemsions rolled up along the phisical dimensions. Do some reasearch into Quantum Phisics before you start making retarded statements.

both my parents are agnostic (although my mum would SAY shes anglican). I went to 2 different Catholic primary schools, an Anglican Highschool (boarding school no less so church was mandatory).

I diddn't have any opinion on God, diddn't even consider god as a possibility, untill I was in grade 9 when I strted to believe is some form of the christian god with all the asshole taken out.
Then I read the bible and realised that the christan god is an asshole and went to some form of agnoticism I guess, I diddn't believe in god beyond some abstract universal entity who kicked off the big bang, but I thought there was an afterlife and you would end up going to whichever afterlife you expected to go to. At some point in all this my School tried pushing intellegant design on its students and I thought that was bullshit from the start.

After leaving highschool I stayed the same untill about 3 years ago. I was looking up science stuff on youtube and encountered Carl Sagan's "The Cosmos" and his logical argument about skipping the god part in starting off the universe (this is the clip).

After that I was an athiest. About 2 years ago I started taking an interest in Dawkins and Hitchens and I became an Antithiest.

anything that may lead to a cure of aging is a good thing in my books. Sooner we can cure aging the sooner we will be able to ban breeding. Recreational sex only!

Should he not be allowed to enjoy life as nature intended?

Who intended? Nature doesn't have conciousness or opinion so it can't have intention.

We have evolved to wear clothes by this point.

Holy shit! I just read this bit, and now I question the accuracy of the entire article.

Quote
Common sense and conscience both dictate that artificial birth control is not only a violation of the Natural Law but is a perfidious insult to the dignity of man himself. For it implies free reign to physical impulses; it implies total disregard for the fate of the human seed; it implies utter contempt for the honorable birth of fellow humans, those fellow humans who are born as the result of a contraceptive having failed and whose very existence is therefore considered to be an unfortunate ``accident,'' rather than a gift of God; it implies the most extreme selfishness, for no advocate or practitioner of artificial birth control would have wanted it for his or her own parents. Further, contraception undermines the respect of husband and wife for each other and thereby loosens the marriage bond. Worst of all, many ``contraceptives,'' such as the IUD and most if not all birth control pills, work by actually causing an abortion early in the pregnancy; thus, this so-called ``contraception'' is in reality abortion--the killing of a human being--rather than the preventing of conception.

Urgh,

Personally I don't think it is killing unless the thing is sentient, and not murder untill it is sapient.

Yeah, I read or saw somewhere that they were worshipers and not slaves, but there's not much difference. They were slaves to their beliefs.
Ooh, that's harsh, SCG! Do you think the same of all religious people?

Not sure if she does but I certainly do.

But you wouldn't be testing the LORD, you would be trusting the LORD since you already know that the LORD exists and cares for you. If he did not decide to save your life then clearly it was your time to die and you will be with the LORD as a reward for your faith.

Satan....Is that you?  You cannot tempt me.

I'm not trying to tempt you. I'm asking you to show your faith in the LORD.

Most of the rioters were atheists.

Based on what information?

Did somone do a survey of their religious beliefs in the middle of the looting?

In creationist circles, I think it does.  Then they can claim they are being persecuted by the evil closed minded scientists.

Well if you open your mind wide enough your brain will fall out.

I think this is a prime example of this concept in action.

Its not testing god. Its having faith in the LORD!

As i'm sure you know nothing is more important than faith.

Luke 4:9-12

9The devil led Jesus to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here.

10For it is written “‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully;

11they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”

12Jesus answered, “It says: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”

But you wouldn't be testing the LORD, you would be trusting the LORD since you already know that the LORD exists and cares for you. If he did not decide to save your life then clearly it was your time to die and you will be with the LORD as a reward for your faith.

MEDICAL SCIENCE HOOOOO!!!

Although actually stopping aging would probably require alterations to the genome so... I REALLY hope I don't have to not exist any more.

Rick Perry prayed and yesterday it rained.

3 days after the local weather man said we were stuck in a weather pattern that wouldn't break until Oct it has now rained 2 straight days.

Tell you what. Don't go to work, don't pay your bills, don't even leave your bed in the morning.

Just pray for food and have faith.

Either way you will know for sure wheather there is such thing as a god/afterlife or not by the time you are done.

Are you asking me to test God?

Its arguments like these that make me realise just how much I love living in Australia.

Madatory Superanuation and government standardised award rates and employment regulations means that we have few problems with poorly written employment contracts. Baisically the government sets the minimum fair standard, if somone is a good employee you can give them more.

Our unions are baisically just another lobby group.

@opening post

all of this assumes that gaining money is our ultimate goal. If it is not then smart people will attain only enough money to maximize their happiness. If more money will not make you any happier then working to attain more money is actually an economic loss. only an idiot would spend time (one of our most limited resources) on a marginal gain of 0.

I agree.

The smartest people work up enough money to get maximum enjoyment out of their free time.

If the way they get enjoyment is actually making more money then fine, but most people just keep making money because they think it will make them happier, not because it does.

The greatest intellectual triumph is to understand your own wants.

Better than most methods, I'd say. I'd still prefer to be fired from a steam catapult like on an Aircraft Carrier if I wanted to kill myself.

In a jeep...

Into a conrete wall...

on fire...

While the ship sinks.

Australia's prime minister is a staunch athiest and we have the strongest economy our of all the former british colonies (discounting India) and europe right now.

We are also far less religious in general than the vast majority of other nations.

Anyone who thinks prayer does anythign other than waste time really needs to have a reality check.
Prayer gives hope and other psychological mental benefits.

It also leads to complacency.

In all seriousness though. This isn't rioting, because rioting implies that there is a reason.

This is just a bunch of people using the opportunity to steal shit. The reason there are more black people looting is because it is easier for them to blend in with all the rest already doing it. It probably started as an actual riot with a number of black people participating, but now it is just looting.

Rioting needs to have a reason to be rioting?  I agree with you that it's utterly reasonless, but I'm not sure that disqualifies it from "riot" status.

I got riot mixed up with protest/violent protest when I wrote that I think...

I was tired
