I don't like the anti-gun laws, but when you're in close quarters like a house, any weapon would work just as well. I say this because I have five katanas (from jiu-jitsu competitions) and a battle axe (for purely decorative reasons) and honestly, I think they would work better than a gun. Guns have to be aimed and reloaded, and when there are three people, you'll be better off sneaking up on them one by one than having a shoot-off. And other problems don't come into play a much, because you can incapacitate some without killing them with a sword much easier than with a gun, and with much less training.

That makes sense.  But what about those of us who aren't samurai/ninjas?

Is anyone anymore? You don't need years of training to stab someone in the hamstring.

It seems like some kind of logical fallacy. Republicans and Tea Partyists both like to vote for people they could have a beer with. So why do people like Palin need to use veiled insults? If she just called her opponents sons of bitches, her party would love her all the more. And if Democrats openly said that current drug laws were idiotic, I doubt many people would begrudge them the fact. They'd probably get more votes. And I think we'd get more accomplished if congressmen didn't need to "respectfully disagree with their colleagues" and could speak openly.

Hello. By the way, these guys don't think the Earth travels around the Sun. I see you may have a problem with this.

So basically, the Flat Earth tectonic plates sit on lava which exists for no reason, and the plates themselves exist for no reason?

The Lounge / Re: Marijuana

This may have been said already; I read the first six pages and really didn't feel like reading another fifteen.

Caffeine is by far worse than weed. If you want marijuana to be illegal, than you should want coffee illegal as well. Let's look at the effects of the two:

Weed Pros: Makes you feel awesome, gives mild hallucinations

Weed Cons: On scale of relative addictiveness, where crack is at 98 and pure nicotine 100, weed is at 21. Withdrawal symptoms include vivid dreaming, mild irritability, loss of appetite and mild cravings. Sometimes causes temporary short-term memory loss. A tentative link between smoking it and cancer (only when smoked in a non-water based bong or joint), although there is also a tentative link between it and protecting against and slowing cancer (in all forms). If you take 400 pounds of it at once, you could potentially overdose.

Caffeine Pros: Makes you more alert for a short amount of time.

Caffeine Cons: Causes a crash worse than its high. On scale of relative addictiveness, where crack is at 98 and pure nicotine 100, caffeine is at 68. Withdrawal symptoms include extreme irritability, headaches\ migraines, fatigue, drowsiness (yes, there is a difference), difficulty concentrating, decreased motivation, depression (even suicidal thoughts!), anxiety, and flu-like symptoms. Can cause overdose when in pill form.
