NOTE: FE theory questions can often be answered on this wiki.  Aetherial Winds page was taken down for some readon though.  Ask Tausami for info on that part of FE theory.

The wiki page only shows one experiment, or variations of one experiment, the bedford canal experiment, which has since been shown to be false?
The refraction of light also tends to ruin most optical experiments

See my position is this, I would love flat earth to be true, it would be fantastic, but as an impartial observer here is the situation.

Flat earth theory, 1 experiment that historically has had more results that favour round earth than flat

Round earth theory, dozens, if not hundreds of repeatable experiments empirically, mathematically etc

What is the logical choice to believe?

Most of what I'm posting ties in with the conspiracy theory.  The idea being that World Powers at the time knew the earth was flat but have since been covering up the fact.  However, if you fail to find death squads, it puts holes in that theory, and all conspiratorial evidence can be thrown out.

Well, there is the symbol of the UN which depicts the monopolar flat earth model.  And biblical references if that's your type of thing, but even many FEers don't cite the Bible as a reliable source, just the Fundamentalist ones.

I don't think the un logo is evidence for anything?
If it should be treated as evidence, can you please explain why?

Hey, Mike: I would be more inclined to give the FET a hearing, but the question of reproducible experiments is a problem. It seems that when you ask for such, you are invariably referred to Rowbotham, whose experiments were questioned in his own day, and which have been overtaken by events such as the Space Age and such military tools as the ICBM, which used GPS (I think). Of course, now, GPS is so common that it is in the cheapest of cell phones to help 911 to find you. GPS assumes a globular shape to function. Re: the Space Age, FEers will say it is all faked. But if there are no satellites in orbit (notice I do NOT say circling above a flat Earth, which would not be orbit, and which would require a lot of fuel consumption just to stay up there along with Universal Acceleration), then how does GPS function?

to give you some background, I am a scientist of sorts / researcher, so when it comes to which theory to believe I am not interested in disproving a theory, proving a negative is nearly impossible.

what I am interested is which theory makes the best valid, experimentally testable predictions. If the earth is flat, we should be able to make simple predictions and observationally validate those repeatedly, and by lots of different people. So what experiments should I be doing?

I'm not entirely sure if I understood you post correctly, but in regards to gps, I would be happy to explain orbital mechanics and triangulation theory if you like

So what is the evidence for a flat earth? Ive seen a lot of posts like top 10 round earth lies, debunking round earth claims, but very few saying top 10 pieces of evidence for a flat earth

It's debatable.  Results for both ways have been observed.  It's just the first experiment that came to mind.  Also probably safer than the alternative I was going to suggest, which was to visit Antarctica and see if the Nasa death squads do exist.

I have friends that work in Antarctica, they didn't report any death squads, but ill be going there next year for 2 weeks then working there for 6 months in 2015 so ill get back you you on that

I don't feel overly scared of death squads though

The Bedford Level Experiment.  Haven't had the chance to try it myself yet, but maybe you do.

It was my understanding of this experiment that it showed curvature? The posts changed heights over the distance?

Even as a flat earther I do not see this as valid evidence. As you may know many FEs beleive in the "Space Conspiracey" but I reject this as flat earth can work fine with space photos and sattalites (photos show the sun casting a circle of light over the earth giving the ilusion of a round earth and sattalites circle above the flat earth). So since that the moon and mars both look flat I do not thing it can be acepted as valid evidence. So I can agree with you on this

Cool, so if visual evidence of seeing the earth is flat is not in it, what does that leave behind?
Are there any empirical, repeatable experiments which lead to a conclusion the earth is flat? I would like to do them if there is

None of us can actually see the earth, so any visual evidence from our eyes as to seeing the shape of the earth while standing on it is invalid for any argument either way?
