This pretty much sums up my thoughts on 1.8
It didn't seem like nearly enough of a change to warrant excitement. The new lightning and whatnot is cool and all, but I'm just not a big fan. I've probably just gotten burnt back. I'm sure I'll be back to Minecraft in a few weeks/months, and I'll be much more excited about it then.

It'll have 1.5gb of RAM (max it can handle, DDR2 667) and some shitty Ion processor. Again, if anyone can suggest a user-friendly (as in friendly-to-someone-who's-inexperienced-with-Linux) OS that's better on a netbook, I'm all ears. It just needs to read/write .docx and have Chrome.

I ended up popping the 2.5" in my computer and disconnecting my main drive, and from there I just installed Ubuntu from a CD I had lying around. Works great, minus a broken battery I need to replace. I'll install Win7 later, unless you guys can think of something better (more efficient, etc.) for a little 9" netbook for a highschool student.

I think I found a solution... my computer only has 2 SATA ports, so I decided to install the main hard drive and the 2.5" drive from the netbook. I then installed a program called Virtualbox on the main drive, downloaded an .iso for a Linux OS, and I'm currently installing that OS onto the netbook drive in a virtual machine.

Anyway, right now it's an internal hard drive in my PC. Any way I can get an image of an OS onto it? I'm not sure I can install an OS on it, seeing as though the computer I'm on is 64-bit and I need a 32-bit OS on it.

This time, I'm working with an Acer Aspire One netbook. It's my brother's girlfriend's. Basically, he totally fucked it up trying to install Windows 7, and nothing works. I've tried making a bootable flash drives several times to no avail (doesn't detect it, etc.). I've tried a network boot, but it's missing some file and that doesn't work.
I'm at the stage where I'm taking it apart and taking the hard drive out and putting it into a external-2.5" drive case. Any way I can put an OS onto an external drive then putting that drive into the netbook?
I'm pretty much at a loss. The goal is to put Windows XP 32-bit, or if I can't do that, a noob-friendly Linux (pinguy maybe?).

I've noticed that my browsing speed is more closely related to the speed of my internet connection.
Browser speed is really only relevant once you hit a certain bandwidth anyway.

There are probably guides for your specific motherboard, look it up.
If you've been working with Intel chips for awhile, you may not know how terrible AMD BIOS can get.

My first bit of advice is to see if there's an update to your BIOS and if so, flash it.
To this day, I'm still unable to flash my BIOS. I've never been able to get the hang of it.

Well, I installed a Corsair GS700. A few problems are gone, but now I'm having new ones...
Basically, whenever I reconfigure my RAM (as in change which stick are in which DIMM slots) and clear my CMOS, the computer will POST and boot into Windows (so stably, in fact, that I can run stress tests and game without a hitch). But as soon as I shut it back down, I'm unable to even POST until I change around my RAM again.
I'm messing around with 2 sticks of 2gb 1600MHz (running at 1333MHz) Ripjaws and 2 sticks of 4gb 1333MHz. I have a hard time believing that they're all dysfunctional.
Any thoughts? I'm absolutely stumped. Temperatures are all normal (CPU maxes at 60C in Prime95, GPU runs around 40C in Crysis 2, ambient temps are just a few above room temp).
And again, all settings are stock, since the BIOS gets reset every time I change around the RAM.
Oh, and I've resat the CPU twice (as other sites have advised me to do), as well as tried a different one. Which seems to narrow it down to the graphics card (?) or the motherboard.
Finally, it turns out that obscure error that the computer was having (that I never wrote down) turned out to be a Hyper Transport Sync Flood Error, which seems to be consistent with the white lines appearing on the screen earlier.

So. My uncle ended up ordering a Corsair GS700 700 watt, but before installing it, opened up the PC to take pictures of the wiring. He found out that the main motherboard power connector (24-pin) was messed up; the cord coming from the HEC PSU is a 20+4, and the +4 cord wasn't in the socket. As soon as he popped it in and booted up, it worked fine.
However, it only took a few hours for it to become loose again and start causing problems. Though it didn't come out, it appeared to come loose enough to mess up POSTing, etc. As soon as I pushed it in again, the PC worked fine.
The question is whether or not this is the fault of the PSU or the Motherboard. Poor sockets, or poor cord design?
