Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Forum reunification

Perhaps I ought to be clearer.

Why is Shifter's shitposting seemingly taken seriously here? I know our moderation styles are about as different as they get, but obvious trolling in S&C? Really?

Sorry, I'm late to the party. Why is there an S&C thread with super serious comments about something that's been said in our CN board?

I believe that historically the rule was: try to avoid exceeding the equivalent of 4 lines of text, but ultimately down to moderators whether or not a sig is excessive. This might have changed - I'm working with old info here.

That's appalling. I suggest that, all disagreements aside, both societies should issue a statement on our social media channels warning others about the plagiarism that took place.

sandokhan, do you think this is a reasonable idea?

The exception has been a few morning radio shows that were clearly out to take the piss out of us.
Ugh, I fell for one of those once, on talkradio. A shame, since I also had an evening show with them which had a really positive atmosphere, and which I thought went really well. I'm trying to be more careful now.

I did get a chance to listen through; good job Pete.
Thank you!

What the hell is that accent?
New Orleans. Why do you ask?

Also, junker, while I appreciate your concern, there's no need to stick up for me. John says many things, oftentimes things he later apologises for. I've learned to look at it with the humour I presume is intended.

That said the feature has been done for some time
Technically true ;) I think we're looking at 4 years now.

I'm curious as to the use-case here.
That's quite simple - it's about accountability and transparency. No mod is ever going to be popular, that much is given, but if the people wish to be angry, they should be able to base this on facts.

If you give me more detail, I'll happily consider it.

Also, just so you know, the same game has a Flat Earthers card

The Moon landing conspiracy and FET were both quite well known in 1995. Hardly a mystery.

I think it's absurd for Junker to still be upset about any of it.
I can't speak for junker, but I have a feeling it's more a case of him openly mocking you than being particularly upset. Maybe a mix of the two, I dunno.

John doesn't owe you guys anything.
I'd say a few apologies here and there (mostly for things like calling us terrorists, which is a bit strange) would be handy, but I doubt he'd even acknowledge ever saying it ;)

The FEoplane, still being dramatic about something that happened years ago.
tbh it's not about any single event. It's the accumulation of grievances over time. The loss of posts (I'll gloss over the fact that everyone is getting both the number of posts lost and the length of time completely wrong) was just enough of a nudge to convince some of us to just get our own forum.

I don't know how much you actually know about this, and frankly I don't see how talking about it would help, but it would be discourteous to pretend that junker is just upset about a few weeks of posts disappearing from an online forum five years ago. John really did do his best to antagonise us back in the day, and, well, some took it harsher than others. Some of the things he's apologised for, others he doubled down on. In the end, it would be beast to shrug it off and move on.

Well, before we went our own way, there have been numerous questions about how things work and why. Usually, these would receive non-answers. Nowadays, it hardly matters anymore, but it's good to see that you're trying to improve.

In the past we looked for solutions that could be managed by one person if everyone was hit by a bus. This lead to several poor host decisions that lead to outages that lead to outcries! I want this to be run by everyone, but lets still be smart about it.
Fair enough. This is the closest you've come to explaining some of the stuff that's been happening in this madhouse. It's progress, and as such it's appreciated.

Yes. You murdered every single person on wise's list, including those marked as safe.

However, I don't see how this pertains to the fact that you're running a very old version of SMF.

You all realize he has updated the forum software a couple times since that happened, right?
Well, we did catch him changing the version number without actually updating the software last time. At this point, who knows what's going on! You could still be running 2.0.6 for all we know

You failed to quote the previous post. Your number doesn't matter and will be discarded.

That's the risk!

I imagine this has to do with some changes google has made regarding allowing certain black hat seo tactics, or rather them turning a blind eye to it.
Our SEO practices are actually firmly jester hat.
