I'm tossing up whether the creator of that test is real or not. He has some highly ironic, sarcastic answers...but the tone is clealry as if he believes it.

Well you know what they say about Baptists....

And yes, where does that ever so noble organisation get their information?

The sun and moon are often up at the same time. I have seen it many times.

So if indeed it is a spotlight, how can it be seen in several places at once?

The Americas are NOT further away from anywhere in Europe. The distance from London to New York is about a fifth of the distance to Perth, let alone Sydney.

Ah, but publishing and selling something is hard when there is a vested interest in not letting information get out, yes?

Him? It? She? That'd be worth seeing, they prove there is a god and find out it's female!!

But you're right Dysfunction, seriously.

It depends what sort of athiest you are. I am one, and have been for many years. However, I don't feel like I need to 'spread the word' like some sort of mirror image missionary. Usually because people don't listen, but that's bneside the point.
So, if the religious people are going to try to convince me it is they that bear the onus of proof.

Dysfunction is quite correct. It is for those who believe in a deity to prove its existance (they seem very willing to do so most of the time anyway.)

It's the shotgun approach to insulting.

Besides, I'm Australian, and we don't have a constitution like yours.  :P

I think that like Skeptical Scientist, I'm going to start defending a FE...if only to defeat some of these spammers.

You raise a good point, Original Poster, about the role of a threat in keeping control and willing voters.

Of course, it is a two edge sword. When you find yourself losing a battle, and the public in the USA clearly percieves it is in Iraq (whether it is or not is uncertain), then things can turn against you. The Republicans were given a harsh sting in the elections because they can only say things about the War on Terror for so long without a victory.

This 'war' has not produced any victories that are final. Iraq and Afghanistan are liberated, but the fighting goes on there, it is not a war where there are quick results. The trap is, the public expects overwhelming victories, or their support and interest fades fast.

What does this mean? Well, the threat of terrorism is a dangerous ally. On the one hand it is a useful instrument for staying in power, but on the other, it can be a destroyer.

Incidentally, is it just me, or has our views about the value of human life gone too far? For instance, in the three and a half years since the Invasion of Iraq, fewer American soldiers have been killed than in a single day at Antietam in the Civil War.

I think that if you commit to a war, you have to accept that soldiers are paid to accept risk. If you are going to fight a war, people have to realise people die in it....

australia do exits. it is the closest thing to hell that will ever be created. australians are the offspring of evil.

I sense an Englishman about to get whomped in the Ashes.

This thread is a farce. The difference between the FE argument and your own purile comments is that not one of you ACTUALLY knows yourself whether the Earth is round or flat, you rely on the workings of others to tell you. However, Australia is something you can actually go to rather easily. I am in Sydney right now, for example.

I'm a RE, but sometimes the sheer ignorance of some members makes me want to join the FE side.

hey, people still believe the earth was created in 7 days in this country....  truely the land of the free i suppose.

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

Was it now, dear boy? Well, I am so glad to hear got any proof for that, chief? Or are you just going by the words of a book which was written centuries after the fact, edited, chopped, mistranslated and misinterpreted, and now holds no more relavancy than a piece of kindling?

Thought so.

I will point out that the first picture of the 'guards' is the Greek Presidential Guard in Athens. As evidenced by the greek writing on the wall behind, their uniform, and the fact that they are oddly not wearing any cold protection....

Turncoat! Not as bad as Cheryl 'Turncoat' Kernot, or so she was called.

I wish they were a viable party...I'd probably vote for them. Independants are fine...but too narrow focussed.

Is there already an Australian Politics thread? Don't want to clog up this one if there is another.

Isn't that the soon to be departed member of the Democrats...Natasha Stott Despoja? Or however you spell her last name.

The Democrats make me laugh...such a good idea, but they have failed so badly. I wish they were still a proper party, we need a third party....
