And the worst thing that it was not Jura Glenlivet.

Are you saying I'm a lizard Inti'? I'm pretty sure I'm not, just cycled to work in temperature of -5, and I don't eat flies.

2nd Lieutenant Aeval, commander of scout sections Corvus and Beira, disciple of Cathubodua, Sister Militant, walked up the ramp of the Chinook with the last of her bags, strapped them in place and sat down back against the webbing, brushing her tangled hair back with her hand. The showers here were shit, brown tepid water that dribbled out, in 3 hours they'd be back at base and she could get cleaned up. A mechanical whirr announced the the back door shutting, she looked out seeing the old light, white against the blue sky, high on beacon hill, she had said her goodbyes to the old bird up there, he had seemed subdued, perhaps not believing her promise to return, but she would, it would be good to see him again.

As the the aircraft banked out over the sea the Raven was riding the sea winds over the southern cliffs, his home. He caught an updraught, rising 200 feet up, and followed for a while, out over the ocean, pulled by the tug of his heart as she left, then turned to home.
He knew she would be back, had read that truth in her mind, but knew too he would not be here to greet her, he had seen the 17 summers granted to him, the winter when it finally came, would take him. Already the stories of the flame haired little witch were legend amongst his kin here and she would be warmly welcomed, but he would see her nevermore.

There were a couple of times things could have gone very differently, when NSS was thinking he may get lynched he said his target would be wise, then Junker came in, last second, and tipped the balance (making me scrap what I had just written and do a rewrite, bastard), I asked NSS if I should go ahead and I think he thought I was giving him a clue, or at least he rethought so killed DD, that put the wild card in the best position and kept the penguins in it.
A very different outcome if I had just done it.

The Atmosphere in the tavern was beyond tense, the assembled had bundled the unresponsive Bully into the corner, it seemed the previous two days of slaughter had tipped him into catatonia, some thought it a cover, he had been found outside naked the night Boydster and the Colonel had been killed and there was a growing consensus to string him up.
Wise had just finished a speech to that end when there was a flurry of activity, as the lights of the Land-rover flooded through the entrance window, the Lieutenant and three of the Sisters swept in, the fire door to the smoking patio near the bar sprang open too, Sisters Grace and Serenity entered, carbines sweeping the room. Shifter who was sitting next to the door froze,Sister Grace put the muzzle of her gun into his ear.

“Hi corpse fucker” she said brightly “Could you move your sorry ass to the middle table please?

Sister Una appeared on the mezzanine, weapon trained on those below. “Clear”

Sister Aeval vacated the archway, hand resting purposefully on the shotgun hanging from the strap from her shoulder, Her hair momentarily competing with the fire for colour and winning.

She spoke “A little bird tells me that you were about to kill the poor Bulwinckle” she paused, opening her other hand to reveal a crumpled bit of paper “However I also received this, a message from two members of The Council, telling us to execute Mr Wise”

The colour drained from Wises face and there was a muttering and a swift swapping of puzzled looks, Wise seemed to come to a decision his body tensing, as one the girls snapped their weapons up and levelled them at him, he stopped dead as the lieutenant carried on.

“But” she screwed the paper up and flicked it behind her into the fire which briefly flared as if hoping for a rematch, “That isn't going to happen”

Wise started to breath again, the Chicken man seemed about to say something, then didn't, the lieutenant cocked her head.

“Some thing you want to say Mr Clucker?” Wise shot him a look of pure hatred.

“Er, no”

“Just as well, as I don't want to fucking hear it, having to listen to your voice the last few days through the listening devices, whilst edifying, has I am afraid put you top of the list headed, if he as much as moves, shoot him in the face.”

“This is how it goes,” she pointed the gun at Shifter and Crouton, “You two, pick up your sleeping buddy and take him out to the Land-rover, If you manage this task without him coming to harm, you will be taken to the old light for the night, and come morning you will be picked up and you can go home, you may thank me by letter later for saving your life, Sister Grace if you would escort them please?”

Under the smiling but watchful ministration of the Sister the two clearly bemused villager's picked up the unresponsive Bully and bundled him out. When they heard the door shut she continued.

“Mr Wise, my sergeant here,” she pointed to the stern faced woman staring at him down the iron sites of her combat shotgun “Has one order tonight, that is, to watch that you comply with everything I ask of you, if you decide not to, she will kill you. The other ladies here have other considerations but they too are of the same mind. Do you understand?” Wise nodded, eyes locked on the sister.

“Good, lets test that understanding, please sit yourself in the corner” nodding to the seat furthest from her, wise backed up and did as he was told, half of the guns including Sister Gabrielle followed him.

She turned her attention to CFC, “Virgil, I hope you don't mind me using your real name?” the NASA agent reddened but said nothing. “Seriously? Well anyway, I have been told you are to live as long as you do not try to escape as you have a message to deliver to your space mates, personally I hope you try and we can write it out and pin it to your corpse for them to find. When the land-rover returns you will go with the four Sisters to the castle and in the morning you too can go, okay?”
He stared stonily back at her, she sniffed, Sister Serenity put her gun against his cheek.

“Not answering the Lieutenants questions is considered trying to escape” she hissed.

“You do realise we are on the same side here” He spluttered, gesturing at the silent wise “kill this thing and I will forget this ever happened”

The red heads face darkened “The Colonel, the one you left to choke to death, he was on my side and I liked him, now do you realise the situation you are in and the rules you need to abide by, for me to let you live? And Serenity if he answers anything but Yes and yes alone, blow his fucking head off.”

“Good, Serenity, take him out of here to wait for the transport, give him plenty of opportunity to run for it, Jena has new night sites she wishes to try out”

When he had gone she turned to the remaining captive, who was looking quizzically at her.

“Sister, why am I still alive?”

“ For the simple reason that my priestesses wish to understand more of what hold NASA has over you and offer, if they are able, to help you break those binds”

“And then?”

“And then, If they feel that you have been straight, and they will know if you lie, then you will be released”

Wise leant forward, all guns including the lieutenants pointed at him, she spoke.

“Do not make the mistake, Waldo/Wise, that their wish for information overrides in anyway my mission, that all the Sisters under my command return alive.”

He smiled, “I except your terms”

“Well let me just add a few before you fully agree, you will go out that door,” she pointed to the fire door. “There is a cage on the tennis court that you will enter and close the door behind you, that cage has certain embellishments that will suppress your ability to change shape, only then will they meet you, that is the full terms of our agreement here”

Waldo the penguin agreed, and so Clan Glenlivet captured for a while their first penguin.

As for the game, there was a time today when CFC had put his stolen power to use (scam-artists two extra votes) that it looked like Wise would die, If that happened then the power of Bully (spirit magician)could have won it for the villagers, or CFC might have won, but Wise mindful of Croutons politician's power and worry about a potential scam artist invoked his, which would have killed Bully, the two humans would have died in the night or at least one, who would suicide thus making a draw inevitable.

So in reality the evil side get a draw and Ducky gets a win as he will claim this, only you know how much he influenced things.

I hope this is acceptable and you had a good game, please don't unsticky it yet I have  just one more thing to finish.

Not gone typing!

The day is done

2nd Lieutenant Aeval asked for confirmation of the message the priestess had just relayed to her. When it came through she activated her throat mike.

“Ladies” all around the island the Sisters Militant paused in what they were doing “Operation Carpet ride is go, repeat operation Carpet ride is go, rendezvous in 15 minutes, out.”

From the adjoining room and through her ear piece she heard a cacophony of whistles, about time's and thank fuck's, rising from her desk she looked at the weapons rack, shrugged, and hefted the shotgun, her shoulder might regret this but it was effective against werewolves, why not.

Back when I'm finished, be civil.

Jura, how long until sunset?

I will be signing of soon and probably won’t be back until Saturday evening GMT, sorry, plenty of time for you to get this lynching sorted.
Please if people want to have long discussions about each other’s shortcomings, could they do it in the other thread, all I really need to see is the votes, a few pithy but funny comments, the return of Bully and lots of praise for me.

Oh my, in Limbo for a whole day...ouch

If anyone has vote altering powers, spells of resurrection, guns they want to use, mesmerising shit or illegal fireworks they want to let loose, make sure to PM me before I get back, I will be getting straight into the writing so anything not done by then will be lost.

Jura answered the questioned CFC, I was right but Jura played a dirty trick on us and there never was a map  >:( I worked hard figuring out those answers, I demand a reward!

“The end is not the reward; the path you take, the emotions that course through you as you grasp life - that is the reward.”

That and the fact you got all three clues and no one else was even close.

How was I to know the bitch had sold it?

Even in Death the Colonel came through;
“I would like to check the Taxiarchis life preserver hanging in the Marisco Tavern. Taxiarchis meaning Archangel in Greek and obviously there is safety in a life belt”
And Life-belt = Lifebuoy (at least in UK) , Buoy-boy a young man (Yeah I know, blame it on the 4 bottles of whisky I got for Xmas)

So, CFC after a bit of trouble manages to get the Taxiarchis lifebuoy down from over the stairs to the mezzanine, despite the mistrust and hostility between the survivors they cluster round as he flipped it over on the pine table, a rough oblong of the belt had been sawn out of the back and then taped back into place, using his bitten filthy nails CFC ripped the tape and pulled out the plug, inside was a role of pink paper with a ribbon round it, did the Templars use ribbons?
He slid it off, unrolled the paper and read it to the others.

Hi lover-boy,
I know you were expecting your precious map, but guess what? I sold it for £100,000 to some weird guy and left you for that sexy mycologist, what can I say? So, he grubs around in the earth too, but at least what he finds we can eat and he’s a Fungi.
Why leave? Because as I got older, I thought you would have more interest in me, you’re an archaeologist right, but no, turns out you’re carbon dating some intern younger than your trowel, well, have fun.

Oh, and if you want it back, the chap is called John Davis, and he really wanted it, said the money would have to come out of the site security fund or something, whatever. But you can’t, cos’ you stole it.

CFC looked at the others, “That’s another clue, right?”        (Prescient, see below)
Shifter sat down heavily “Fuck”
Crouton started to sob.
Wise howled “DAVIS, you son of a whore!”
Bully said nothing.

2nd Lieutenant Aeval leant on the crenelations at the top of the church tower and watched as the Raven came gliding in fast from the south, every so often tucking his wings to his body to gain speed, he wooshed passed her head like a missile, barrel rolled, caught the wind, looping over the top of her position and drifted slowly in, balancing on the northerly dropping softly next to her elbow.
Cocking his head to one side, noting the flicker of her smile. Crackling laughter filled her mind.

“Still got it”

“That you have War-bird, that you have.”

The land-rover with the bodies of the unfortunate villager's was heading up the track, north bound.

“Another for us?” he enquired

“Not this time, we should return some intact, in any case if you eat much more and try to pull that stunt your wings will come off.”

Again the laughter “You must be close to finding your target little witch with so few to choose from”

“Aye, they struck at night when your eyes were closed and away from our cameras, but they left traces, the time is close.”

“And then you will leave us to the mute humans and less interesting times”

She looked down at the beautiful black bird, there was a wistfulness in his manner.

“I would miss you too Raven, but I have a fondness for this place, it has power, I shall return”

The Raven ruffled his feathers “The burning girl will always be welcome”, with that he dropped from the edge and banked away towards the cliffs.

She watched him go, there was something different in his tone this time, something unstated, her ear-piece interrupted with a message, bringing her back to the matters in hand “Be right there, over” She turned to descend.

The Colonel was getting close, real close.
Always a solitary figure he had pretty much abandoned the rest of the group to their squabbling’s, the occasional gunshots and screams underlining his suspicions that evil forces were here, and they hadn’t come for the sea air and biscuits.
And these pretty girls playing soldier didn’t fool him either, oh they knew what they were doing all right, very competent, but he knew the military mind, Knew deployment, they weren’t set up to protect those here, they were hunting, and his people were bait, and If you are looking for a long and fulfilling life, bait, is not a good career choice.

Anyway, no mind, he was here for the map, might be a red herring of course but this place had the right kind of pedigree, a lot of bollocks had been written about the Templars, but they got around and had plenty of money back in the day, too much for their own good in the end.

Back to the clues, right feel about them too, woman hides the thing, goes on the lam, leaves clue trail in case hubby comes home, simple enough between two people who know the place and each other, bit of a bitch for an outsider, but he’d cracked two, no reason to think this would be any different.

Safety with a young man, an Archangel?

Well first things, it hadn’t been the obvious line of thought on the first two clues, but that didn’t mean you rule it out this time, he was heading for the church.
Door open, good, wouldn’t feel right breaking in, torch, where’s the on button, didn’t want to put it on outside, visible for miles in this blackness, ah there we go, what on earth are the bell ropes doing down.

The Colonel heard a noise above, something black and heavy dropped on him driving him to the floor, his head hit the flagstones hard, his last thoughts.

“Bloody ambushed, how stupid” And then just the sound of bells.

Boydster couldn’t sleep, four dead! He stood just south of Government house, it was cold and man it was dark here, you could see the lights of a few small coastal towns down the coast twinkling on the water and the intermittent flashing of at least three lighthouses, but the moon, just past half, had dipped behind the church tower casting a  finger of gloomier black towards him and giving the church that spooky alone on a hill look that fools are drawn to in horror movies.
Woah! Was that a light in the doorway? Gone, but it had been there, a little patch on his retina still held the memory, he would move a little closer using the murky shadow as cover, then a bell rang, not the loud boisterous peal that a proper bell ringer would elicit but a fitful clang as if a strong wind had entered the bell tower, but there was no wind, well, just a bit of a rustle behind him……..

Fear does paralyse, it turns blood to ice, muscles to water and coherent thought to a mindless chattering scream, but not in the Boydster cartel.

He whipped round and on seeing the figure there he leapt, and was caught mid-air, really painfully caught as it happens, so for a second, he blacked out, as the best option.

Boydster lay on his back on the cold grass, something about fools in horror movies flitted in and was forgotten. The moon chose to come out from the back of the church illuminating the problems he was having.
Ah, a pitchfork, running from the sky down into his chest, hence the breathing problems, oh and an ugly penguin coming in to view, reaching for the handle. To pull it out? I’ll take that as a no then!

Colonel Gaydafi hung to death from a bell rope by NASA and The Boydster, death by American gothic, penguin style, both innocent villagers, join the list of dead.

Space Cowgirl had seen the most perfect man she had ever known die in front of her eyes, had stood rigid against the bar as the Sisters had bundled him into a black bag and put that bitch into some sort of sealed casket and carried them away.

She had stumbled out of the side door and, unseen, had crossed the tennis court and just walked, what was left? The memory of whispered words, the broken promise of a life she never thought she could have, there so fleetingly, to be wrenched from her in one explosive moment of vengeance.
She was a hollow half person now, standing on the edge of a bleak cliff in a bleak world,.. and then, his soft voice carried from far far away, called her name, just once, and she smiled again, and fell into the wind.

Space Cowgirl the last of the lovers was gone.

Shit how had that happened? Not only had he got blood spray on his best tracksuit, again, but what had looked like a shoe in for CFC being lynched had by racist stereotype, been overturned and now everybody was looking to him.
Fuck that! He wasn't hanging around for these bunch of oldies, he was betting that the babes had got some boat stashed at the top of the island, they might have brushed him off when that ultra-babe Lieutenant was around but he was pretty sure they were hot for him, he'd scam them good.

“Fuck you lot I need a piss” He pushed passed a few of them and headed out of the door, Shifter the wiry bastard followed him, no bother, those big boots would slow him, the Lord himself was wearing Fred Perry's he could outrun the devil in these babies.

As he reached the opening to the out door toilet he sprinted, strait through and over the wall into the field, he heard the shouts and looked back as he reached the wire fence. Ha! Half a field behind, to his right in the pub garden one of the hot army girls was talking to her wrist but not un-slinging the cool gun she carried, hey he was right, he gave her the thumbs up as he vaulted into the top of the gardens that surrounded the big white house they were staying, there was a path here that must lead up the island, excellent.

Ten minutes later, and he was buggered, this path was all over the place, his tracky was all ripped, didn't they have to keep the brambles down or something, what sort of a park was this, no wonder he'd never heard of it and 3 miles they said but all this up and down shit made it more like ten, fuck there was a three foot drop to a wet rock he......

Sister Corporal Jena watched through the scope as the black clad idiot lifted by the force of her shot landed flat on his back, her spotter Mariel spoke into her throat mike.
“kill confirmed”
The reply came back in her earbud “Hold position, return in one hour, good work, over.”

Above them the Raven sentinel cackled a laugh, shit on Mariel and launch itself to glide down to the body.

She walked into the bar and all heads turn her way, shit, it felt just like a western, everyone goes quiet, fear in some of their eyes, studied indifference, annoyance or outright hatred in others.

Sister Sabine peeled off to the left and skipped lightly up the stairs to the mezzanine, affording her height advantage and surety that nobody lurked there, Mariel was in the Restaurant, back to them watching the entrance.

She hung her cloak on the hooks near the dartboard, the frog faced kid was sprawled on the bench in the corner where she wanted to be, out of direct line to the fire, back to the wall, view of both entrances and everyone in the room.

She walked over to him, “Move”

Consternation overrode his fear, his eyes flicked to the others in search of support, she held his gaze, from the look of resignation no help was offered, he shrugged, slid out and slouched over  to the centre bench, she lent against the table rather than restricting herself by squeezing in behind, hands resting on the twin Glocks, her shoulder still tender.

Well it was clear she had interrupted something, everybody now was either clustered near the bar or on the centre table, all bar Jane who sat alone at the table in the other corner, a bag from the shop with two long baguettes sticking out towards her sat on the table, her right hand drummed the top.

Jane was calm now, stoic in her realisation of where this day was going, she might be without friends but she wasn’t without preparation, the arrival of the Lieutenant was a complication, she felt her gaze on her, as she returned it, the soldier moved her hands from the guns and crossed her arms, clearly at this stage she wasn’t getting involved, good. She spoke.

“So, let me get this straight, Junker steps in last minute and is the cause of death of two of us, but I am todays bad guy, anyone care to explain that one?

Junker took a step towards her “Well, because we know you are” he cut quite a figure, tall and languid in his movement.

She sneered back, “I’m sorry, but in your attempt to sound so cool I missed that”

“Jane, there is no point in this” Junker moved closer to her table, it was all she needed.

Jane was a consummate thief, and when she saw the way the wind was blowing, she went searching, as the others got breakfast and, in their mannerisms, sealed her actions, she found what she was looking for and took it, about the length of a baguette.

Sister Aeval new she had to let this play out, but there was something here that wasn’t quite right, she listened as Jane talked, saw her draw the tall guy in, recognised the danger as Jane thrust her hand into the bag and shoved it towards his chest.

Junker opened his arms in a, like you are going to attack me with bread kind of gesture, a wry smile on his face. The shotgun in the bag went off, throwing the terminally surprised Junker backwards towards the people at the bar, who for the second day running found themselves, deafened and covered in gore.

There it was, as Jane pulled the trigger a fleeting wave of dread washed over the Lieutenant and she acted, two steps draw, two more shots one to the temple one to the back of the jaw line aiming for the brainstem and the vigilante pitched sideways, dead before her morphing body hit the floor.
It was done, just like a western. Junker, a villager was dead, alongside Jane, Gus the penguin, thief and resultant amateur vigilante.

It was tough getting down there but looking amongst the rocks below their eyrie, where all the shit was, thank you, she found another of the canisters, a map? Shit another clue.
