Oh Dutchy. You finally convinced me. Yhe evidence for a globe earth is shaky. So what shape has evidence for it?

Flat Earth General / Re: Creation of the Flat Earth
« on: November 22, 2018, 03:00:28 AM »
Is there a flat earth response to this? Or flat earth research hasn't considered it yet?

63
The basic premise of a flat earth is It looks flat, so it is.

Then with fulk conviction that the earth is flat, flat earthers begin ti seek for evidence.

Unfortunately, most think that disproving a spherical earth is all the evidence a flat earth need.

As a result, there is as far as I know, therefore no evidence for a flat earth.

In truth, debunking a spherical earth simply means the earth isn't a sphere. It doesn't mean the earth is flat.

This is not even considering that pretty much all spherical earth "debunks" are a misunderstanding of the evidence and facts, a lack of knowledge of the evidence and facts, misrepresentation of the evidence or facts or outright falsehoods.

Flat Earth General / Creation of the Flat Earth

While many flat earthers on this forum say there are no religious reasons to their belief in a flat earth, I wonder if they have given any thought as to how the flat earth was formed.

Religious globe earthers can say the earth was created, non religious globe earthers can describe scientific processes by which a globe earth was formed.

Outside of religious creation, what other explanations can be given for the formation of a flat earth?

How could/did the flat earth come to be?

Flat Earth General / Re: A proposal to find the true map

Wise has been working on a map based on flight times. He had a lot of cities on there, covering most continents I think.

Even Inky must have realised that his map has issues that's why he doesn't push it as much as he did while he was still on it. If he thought it was accurate, he qould have been screaming from the roof tops and minarets, seeing himself as the saviour of flat earth.

Flat Earth General / Re: Second try at moonbounce post

Distance assumes radio propagation through vacuum. If lumiferous aether or firmament glue or whatever has a different propagation speed, the delay will be longer and this assumed distance larger.

This still doesn't change the fact that it is only laser beams directed at the moon that return in 2.5 seconds. The moon is supposedly below the dome. Has to be in fact. So if those beams were hitting the done or going through aether and returning (wherever that aether is) then pointing a laser beam at any part of the sky should give a return in 2.5 seconds.

Spoiler alert. It doesn't.

Some flat earthers try to pretend that only the "higher ups" know the "truth". I guess most of them cannot envision a situation where people on the lowest rung of an organisation e.g look-outs on a ship, would need to understand very well the shape of the earth in order to do their jobs. Radio operators, ship and aircraft navigators. Even college astronomy students  can very easily confirm the distance of the moon and from there, the distance of the sun.

No. A conspiracy is asinine. And assuming all these people are wrong in their understanding is even more moronic.

You guys have let Sandy muddy up the original post. He will obstinately refuse to accept any explanation that is different from his belief. He will continue quoting from thise who agree with the accepted explanation of things while claiming they say different because, well, he's Sandy!

Can we please get back to the original discussion of Himawari?

It's so improbable that it's ridiculous.

Flat Earth General / Re: Admiral Byrd's interview and the North Pole
« on: October 29, 2018, 12:50:35 PM »
Isn't selective hearing great?

His continued mentions of "the bottom of the world" , "the top of the world", "the continent of Antarctica " , "Antarctica is A plateau " A. Singular.

But nooo. All he heard is that the North Pole is getting crowded. Not hearing that he said "the AREAS around the North Pole".

I'm not even talking about the usual flat earther habit of quote mining. The Admiral talked about a place "on the other side of the pole, beyond LITLE AMERICA". Little America being his base on the continent. The other side of the pole being literally that - other half of the continent, not the half where Little America was.

Because there must be a conspiracy, they drag Adm Byrd's name into this, quote mining and taking him out of context. Because he isn't alive to defend himself. I'll bet if he was alive, he would have been called a liar and a shill if he stated flatly that Antarctica is a continent at the bottom of a globe.

But then, isn't  New Earth the guy who said the earth was flat then humans "thought" it into being a sphere and now we are thinking it back into flatness? Nuff said.

71
There are just too many people who would have to be in on a conspiracy, most of them not even Americans or Westerners for such a conspiracy to be possible. I mean, this super secret organisation that controls the world is so good at hiding the shape of the earth, so good that in 200 years no one has come out to claim to be a part of this conspiracy, or at least in the last 500 years, but this same conspiracy cannot hide the fact that the US president left cum stains on an intern's dress? Come on!

72
Compartmentalisation between so called astronauts. A need to know. Official secrets act and all the rest of it.
Basically loose lips sink ships or families, potentially.

Astronauts that trained together constantly and if they weren't on the mission or a backup for the mission they were part of the mission control running it at Houston. Please provide evidence of this supposed "compartmentalisation between astronauts" that you claim existed

Common. You know these Zetetics don't do proof. They make a conclusion first then look for an explanation to support that conclusion no matter how improbable it is.

73
Or if they wanted convincing actors why not use, well, actors.
This was back when 25 billion bucks was quite a lot of money.

I guess because while they would make great press conferences, they may not have been able to fake the science bits on the fly.

Or something like that

74
I think the reasoning was that they had guilt for the lie whih manifested in the poor press conference.
Or, maybe they just thought that press conferences were a giant pain in the arse.
The F1 driver Kimi Räikkönen is one of those people. He likes to drive, not sit in front of, well, idiots. I'd imagine the astronauts were not that different.

I couldn't agree more. Thet guy's press conferences are ridiculous. There is no way he could be driving as fast as it is claumed he does. He has no excitement and no indication of an adrenaline rush. F1 is a lie! (Using Dutchy's logic)

75

Did you ever consider the possibility that they were simply uncomfortable as public figures (give or take Buzz)?  Remember that this was the late '60s, long before social media made everyone an attention whore.

I’ve just sat through the first half of the Apollo 11 press conference.

Wouldn’t want to dismiss any evidence out of hand without checking it *cough*.

It’s pretty hard work listening to them talk, but I’ve seen worse from people giving simple presentations just to their work colleagues.  Used to be terrible at that kind of thing myself, and would still probably completely fall apart if I had to address the world’s press.

But remember, NASA is apparently the most deceitful organisation in human history, with the whole thing built on lies upon lies upon lies.

If it was all fake, then the Apollo 11 crew had one job.  To lie convincing to the world and drum up publicity for American space superiority.

And so from their extensive portfolio of professional liars and spin doctors, they picked Neil, Buzz and Mike?

LOL

Logic fail.

Great one!

Well, from the Wiki, I'll guess that point will be when it disproves an obvious truth. You know, like that the earth is flat.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: when did the Round Earth model appear in history?
« on: October 22, 2018, 02:05:44 AM »
History is the record of the winner.
That is far from the truth.
No one knows for sure the truth of history.
So I insist on 'a plausible history'.
It is not plausible that some Greeks knew that the earth is round about 2,500 years ago.
Think about that times.
How did they think the Earth is round, farming and fishing?
No one in the world thought the earth is round at that time.
But why did only the Greeks do that?
It is not plausible at all.
Renaissance is not a Renaissance but a naissance.
The round earth was not discovered but invented by mathematicians.

People in the ancient world, greeks included, were doing a hecknof a lot more than farming and fishing.

Just like people in the modern world do a heck of a lot more than listening to people on youtube who don't know what they are talking about.

Note: NSFFEers ;)

Just as a way of closing this part of the thread,
before there were any replies to thereisnogravity's OP I sent this PM in the belief, with no evidence ;) that it was all a spoof.

I made it all the way to "Reptilluminati" before I figured it out.

His "how dare YE.." in his first post. The "ye"ing and "father of our movement". Damn too obvious. Funny AF too.

Jeranism did the same experiment, found the ISS as predicted, took pictures and compared to what NASA said it was and still concluded that NASA lies and the ISS is fake. Go figure.

When I can see the statue of Liberty from the Tour Eiffel, I will be convinced that the Earth is flat.   :)

The Statue of Liberty on Pont de Grenelle is visible from the Eiffel Tower. It is the statue on the small area of land above the second bridge from the top. :)

Well I'll be damned. The earth IS flat after all. Alien, what are we gonna do now?

That's quite true. But the wave would have to be stationary and permanent to create the illusion of a sharp horizon.

Flat Earth Debate / Faking Space Rockets
« on: October 08, 2018, 02:14:07 AM »
I have heard many flat earthers claim rockets are designed to fly high and far enough to crash out of site or out at sea as a means of continuing the conspiracy of space flight.

How does the continued retrieval of Falcon 9 rockets fit in this conspiracy?

On the 8th of November, a Falcon 9 carrying an Argentinian satellite (are they now also a part of the conspiracy) took off and landed at the Vandenberg launch site. It's flight path could be seen by anyone in southern California all through its flight. The payload section of the rocket could be seen at take off but not at landing. There were no observed pieces of the rocket streaking away to sea.

How does this fit in with the conspiracy?

Flat Earth General / Re: Questioning whether the Earth is Flat or not
« on: September 26, 2018, 06:06:25 AM »
So if I get Dutchy right, his belief in a flat earth is simply that it looks flat from his front porch. His disbelief in the globular earth is that history is all a bunch of old wives tales. Am I right so far?

Dutchy, have you done any experimentation to show the earth is really flat? Have you done any experimentation to show it isn't globular? Or it doesn't matter to you?

Why do you reject science as currently accepted and why do you encourage others to reject it too? After all, that s ience has provided the internet. That part is obviously not a lie. Why should the part of science that includes geography, geodesy and astronomy be a lie?

I am really trying to understand and see it from the point of someone still on the fence. Why should I come down on one side of said fence over the other?
