All in all it's just anther shrimp in the world

62
Hey guys I'm late to the party. Nevertheless, saying that all globe earth people here are dumb parrots is a bit of an overgeneralization, don't you think? There are actual scientists here who are just around for shits and giggles and the occasional serious debate. I actually learned a lot from hanging around here - lots of facts I took for granted without ever giving a second thought, and this place made me rethink certain things. The first time someone responded to one of my posts with some pro-flat-earth arguments I was dumbfounded and it took me a while to come back at it - just because I never think about it. So I guess the FE people around here deserve a thank you.

But in the end, I'm still mostly here for the shits and giggles. And of course, to talk about rocks. Rocks rock.

THE LAYERS OF THE EARTH

One item of information about the Earth given in the Qur'an is its similarity to the seven-layered sky:

It is Allah Who created the seven heavens and of the earth the same number, the Command descending down through all of them, so that you might know that Allah has power over all things and that Allah encompasses all things in His knowledge. (Qur'an, 65:12)

The information in the above verse is confirmed in scientific sources, wherein it is explained that the Earth consists of seven strata. These, as scientists have identified, are:

1st layer: Lithosphere (water)
2nd layer: Lithosphere (land)
3rd layer: Asthenosphere
4th layer: Upper Mantle
5th layer: Inner Mantle
6th layer: Outer Core
7th layer: Inner Core
Quite convenient how you consider the lithosphere to consist of two layers, and also consider the asthenosphere to be separate, even though it is part of the upper mantle, and the uppermost mantle can even be considered to be part of the lithosphere. Adjusting your observations or sources to whatever point you are trying to prove is not science.

There are definitely people around here who claim to believe FE for non religious reasons. I am not sure what percentage of them are trolls.

65
You guys do realize that theres a 99% chance he's a troll and enjoys every moment of you wasting time on him, right?

Finally, an REer who doesn't take the bait EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Oh, I forgot you're me and that means you're secretly FE.
Hello other me, perhaps we should work on a model where the earth is both flat and round.

So much this. Most scientists can double their pay if they go work for a company instead. In most fields related to earth, physics, engineering etcetera, at least.

You mean if these scientists work for the private sector, they make more money compared to working for a government position, such as at NASA. To be honest, I have no idea if what you are saying is true.
I have searched for chemists job (private sector) to see what is available. The pay is incredibly high. Although, I didn't go in that direction since such jobs are hard to get. I became a techy and my job is boring.

(obviously, since I mentioned I am interested in science, I am NOT a flat earther).
As far as I'm aware, universities in general don't pay that well. People don't work at universities to get rich.

There will be many scientists who's work will be suppressed or who will no doubt be coaxed into following protocol. They may not like it but the salary and potential to be cast aside on a scrap heap keeps them following a set pattern.

What sort of salary do think is involved here? The vast majority of scientists earn very ordinary salaries and they could get much more lucrative careers elsewhere.

So much this. Most scientists can double their pay if they go work for a company instead. In most fields related to earth, physics, engineering etcetera, at least.

Also, you should have some patience. You can't expect the FEers to be online at all times, especially the middle of the night on a Saturday.
I thought that they came out at night? Or is that when they hide from harmful lunar rays?

Except scientists are the cutting edge of knowledge and science (duh), how do you expect anyone to be able to fool all of them continuously?

The usual eye repellant rainbow fish vomit from rabies, but yes, it's zero people that have visited each. As neither one exists.
You should tell Intikam and his fancy minerals that only occur on Antarctica.

However, this did take place in a Geology class:

Well that's the first and the last time that I'll watch an entire FET vid all the way through, what a waste of time.

I look forward to any attempts of FET scientific articles. We'll see how that goes.

This site certainly does make flat earthers look stupid. Can anyone recommend a good FE debating site where FE folk don't look stupid?
The issue is that you can never tell the difference between trolls and honest believers. So no.

74
This is a ridiculous display by flat earthers and their refusal to give theories that clash with their beliefs, a chance. If you are truly open minded then there must be conditions for you to accept a different theory than the one you currently believe in.

As for me, I will accept the flat earth theory if peer reviewed scientific articles show that it explains our observations and measurements better than the current globe earth theory. Have at it.

What would keep it not up there?

Convince me the earth is flat, f.e how would the seasons work?

Convince yourself!
But mooooom, I don't wanna!

Neil deGrasse Tyson is just a journalist spouting all kinds of nonsense.

Neil deGrasse Tyson is under no obligation to make sense to you.

80
What's the difference between Antarctica and Intikam?

There are probably a lot of interesting differences, but I'm going with:

Antarctica is cool.

top notch joke right there

You can only prove things in mathematics. Every other field of science is based on finding evidence to support or disprove theories. You can never "prove" something.

Why are we convinced that gravity exists?

Because it is the explanation that best fits our observations. Not only talking about objects falling to the ground when you knock them off the table, but also planets, moons, and everything else in space orbiting a body of larger mass. Or Pluto and its moon spinning around eachother.

No, we can't "prove" gravity but it explains everything we see. Also, you can't disprove it either.

How does this air pressure gravitation model work with bodies of water? If I have a glass of water and I drop a marble in there, what causes the marble to sink?

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Flat earth, spherical, the most conclusive proof:
« on: February 14, 2017, 01:20:56 PM »
Actual speed is not relevant, it's rotational speed. We orbit at a whopping one rotation PER YEAR around the sun. Imagine rotating a tennis ball at one rotation per year.

Even if you rotate a tennis ball at one rotation per day, you get nowhere.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Flat earth, spherical, the most conclusive proof:

Rocks- "that we can't immediately observe them."

Do you know why we "can't immediately observe them"? Because they don't exist.
An excellent example of the thoughts of someone with a closed mind. Just because you don't observe it (clearly), does not mean that it doesn't exist.

There are plenty of ways in which the rotation of the earth is expressed, for example star trails, or the coriolis effect.

And you dismissing math/physics really does not help your point. Those tools are an excellent way of assessing a system that's on a scale entirely different than what you see when you look out the window.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Flat earth, spherical, the most conclusive proof:
« on: February 14, 2017, 11:28:00 AM »
Hey you'll, I'm not looking for fancy explanations, I'm not looking fro math from a book, I'm looking for the physical signs/clues/evidence from the condition of nature that supports the earth is spinning at 1,000 MPH, or cruising along at millions of MPH.

I mean, the claim is the ground, the surface, the spot you are standing on, is hurling along at 1,000 MPH, and so are you! Why don't you feel that motion? I mean, I feel the motion when I ride a bike at 10 MPH, but I don't feel 1,000 MPH? Something is not jiving here!

The evidence from earth's physical condition supports a motionless flat plane.

So, if you have not what is being asked for, that's fine, just say so, don't try other fancy tricks to hide what you don't have. I know the empty tricks, this is not my first rodeo, by any means.
Sadly there are things happening in our universe on such a scale that we can't immediately observe them.
And let's face it, it's never speed that you feel, it's acceleration.

Debunking guide for somebody who actually care :

1 Find the part where the poster cites physics

2 check in an ELEMENTARY school textbook what actually physics says

3 write it down in babysteps.

4 done.
In all fairness, this thread is so dumb that it does not deserve debunking.

90
I would move the focus of my research to fitting this newly found evidence in the big picture.
