Flat Earth Debate / Re: Sunset on flat earth

At that point draw tangent to the Equator, to show you where is east and west.

Sadly, every flatearther would - if he's able to draw a circle - fail at that point since none of them would know what a tangent is.

when someone is taking pictures from different distances, the landmasses will appear different sizes in proportion to the earth as a whole. This is why the three globe picture was offered as an explanation.

Yes, there you go, you got it!

prove that varying distances will make the landmass appear disproportionate. And this is true.

Yeah, nice mate, you understood it!

It will change the size of the landmasses - but the size of the earth itself will also change with varying distances (again, provided all that is done is changing the distance).

Ah damn, you're still dumb as hell   :'(

That image was only used to try and prove that DIFFERENT DISTANCES WILL DISTORT THE SIZE OF THE LANDMASS.
Yes, it was used to prove that and it did, in fact, prove that.

In the black parts there are no informations the camera could have saved.
It's simply a property of the way the camera saves an image.

I guess wheter or not this phenomen occurs depends on how dark it is, how the picutre was saved and in which format.

Do you really think, if you could so easily "prove" it's photoshop, Nasa wouldn't have either removed or corrected it? Don't be so naive...

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: How does GPS work if no satellites?
« on: August 12, 2016, 03:09:02 AM »
It is impossible to fake GPS.   Not a single radio amateur has come forwards to say the cheap mass produced receivers are not receiving a signal which is only useful if you use the transmitters 3 D position in space and use the speed of light to calculate your position.  People who say the GPS system is fake are only demonstrating their ignorance and gullibility.

You can fake GPS. Its called gps- spoofing.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: astounding easy to disprove flat earth
« on: August 12, 2016, 12:38:52 AM »
Just claim that we have satellite photos of the globe and the response is "We can let you use that! Satellites are impossible."

Then I claim that the measurements of the earth prove it is a globe, and we get "We can let you use that! Surveyors are all Freemasons."

So I try to claim that the six months daylight at the South Pole proves that the FE sun is not correct, and we get "We can let you use that! There is no South Pole!"

I do know their tactics, that's why I chose only examples everyone can observe by themself. No third person free mason needed.

There are birds in the sky so why isn't the earth Bird shaped?
Well, I did not disprove the earth is bird shaped but I did disprove the earth is flat  ::)

The fallacy of your logic is the fact that you rely on Heavenly observations to prove your point.
Observations are no fallacy. You do not understand the meaning of this term.

How about the fact that the earth is flat? That water is flat? That the horizon is flat?
How is it a fact when I've disproved it just a few posts ago?
The water isn't flat.
The horizon isn't flat.
Since you do not need to prove your points I can refuse them without proving it either   :o

Doesn't matter if the Sun and Moon look like they do.
How can it not matter?

You're assuming The Table is Plate shaped because of the dishes on Top of it.
That's like the worst metaphor I've ever read.
Feel free to re-read my disprove-post since you did not answer to any of the points I've made.

@Iwtiness, thank you for the good laugh :) I appreciate it.

So when the sun is 3000+ miles away, Fata Morgana causes the Sun to still appear the same size.

You mean to tell me the Sun is setting on the horizon of a Ball yet the horizon is perfectly flat?

Those I personally found the funniest parts of your post  ;D ;D

Guys, stop this madness.

Why would you even try to convince him. If he was interested in the truth, he could pick his smarphone and just test it.

Since he doesn't he isn't interested to learn how photography and perspective works, and therefore every answer to him is wasted time.

So easy :)

Flat Earth Debate / astounding easy to disprove flat earth
« on: August 11, 2016, 02:29:31 PM »
Note about point 1-3: Every single one does suffice as a 100% flat earth disprove.

1. Startrails
From the north pole, looking straight up, it looks like this

And at the equator like this

On a flat earth, the north star would be visible all the time. Or to go be bit deeper: In theroy, in infinte distance the north star would actually appear to be at ground level. But since earth is not infinite, this cannot be true. Additionally, on the southern hemisphere you can not see the north star at all – impossible, even on a infinite flat earth.

You do not have to rely on those pictures. Travel to those places and capture those images yourselfes.

2. Sunrise and  sunset

Notice: The clouds get illuminated from BELOW. On a flat earth, if the sun would just disappear in infinte distance, clouds could be illuminated from straight ahead but never from below.
It is also a nice picture of a upward-cast shadow [/b.
This would require a sun below the height of the clouds. Same for this video:

Also, if you watch a sunset, you clearly see how the sun sets behind the horizon instead of actually getting smaller and smaller. If the sun was getting smaller and smaller, with a telescope you could bring it back into view - which you cannot.

You do not have to rely on those pictures - go out and check it yourself.

3. Vanishing behind the horizon
Ships and buildings vanish behind the horizon. Look, for example, at this video:
" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">

You do not have to rely on thoes videos. Go out and check it yourself, a telescope helps.
4. GPS
The signal comes from the sky. With "ground-transmitter" / pseudosatellites I could not go onto a 2000m+ high mountain and shield everything but the sky, and still have a GPS reception.
Do not belive me, go out and check it yourself.

This does not directly disprove the flat earth, but as far as I know flat earthers deny the existance of satellites.

5. Size of the sun
On a flat earth with an approaching sun, its size would diffrentiate during the day.

Go out and check it yourself with a camera and suitable filters so it would not overexpose the sun.

6. Gravity
Flat earth argument is, that the world is acclereation with 9.81m/s^2.  But not all over the world the gravity is equally strong. In case of an acclerating plate, this would be impossible.

Go grab a scale and measure the same object at the equator and the northpole! Or at least at somewhere near the equator and near the north pole.

7. Jetstream
I do not see a reason for the corioliseffect on flat earth.

8. Ridiculous overall-model

5710
I'm actually not sure whether you're retarded or trolling.

5711
Deserted are you trolling or just thick headded?

It is so hard to tell here.  I have seen people deny something is true when it is so easy to verify .  I would like to think Deserted is trolling at this point.  Him first questioning it is valid IMHO.  Then he was offered some very compelling evidence, I think the best was the examples of the dolly zoom.

One more time, Woody...
No zooming was used. The first photo was taken, then the photographer stepped back and took the second photo, then back further and took the third. That's what the description says. No tricks were used. Why can't you guys accept it the way it's written?

Classic fallacy.

I quote the picture
"Three phtos of the same globe taken from different distances. North America seems a different size in each image becaue you can see more of the globe as you get further away."

As you've read it again, I hope you notice your fault.
In case you do not, let me explain it:
The text does not mention zoom was used. But since the distance has changed but the sphere itself stays the same size, the pictures taken were either cropped or diffrenet focal lenghts were used. Its called a logical conclusion.

To doublecheck it you can take a look at the background and will notice it has changed too (as with dolly-zooming).

Flat Earth General / Re: Why do people believe in flat earth?
« on: August 11, 2016, 09:07:22 AM »
You can read more about why I believe in a Flat earth in my AMA thread in the Q&A forum.

I'm happy to meet someone that does really belive in flat earth.

Even Wikipedia admits that the Heliocentric model and Geocentric model BOTH work:
Quote
The motions of the sun, moon and other solar system planets can be calculated using a geocentric model (the earth is at the centre) or using a heliocentric model (the sun is at the centre). Both work..
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor
I do not deny that. In terms of mathematic it's all a matter of perspective. You could assume the earth as not moving at all and everything else moving around it. Since the equations are known, you could aswell do a moon-cenctric model or maybe a mars-centric model.

Now it goes on to say that Geocentric model has more assumptions so according to Occam's Razor the Heliocentric model should be correct.
Who says that. Give me a list with assumptions of both models.

To believe in the Heliocentric model, you have to assume that an invisible, non-measurable force (Gravity) holds everything in place while simultaneously allowing the universe to expand.
Gravity is measurable as well as calculable. I tho agree, we are far from knowing all about gravity especialy the "why".
The universe expanding and gravity are no problem; it does make perfectly sense.

You have to assume that your eyes are deceiving you to see the earth is flat when it is really round. You have to assume that mirages are deceiving you into seeing buildings much farther than you should.
Such sentence usually come when you do not understand how big earth actually is. Its not like your on a small ball or something.

You have to assume that humans (which are inherently evil) are telling the truth about traveling in space.
I do not assume humans are evil.

But to answer your question, the Flat Earth is not easily disproven otherwise the debate would have ended.

It can be. Let me quickly do it. Arguments 1-3 are each proof enough that a flat earth could not exist.

1. Sunset/sunrise

2. Ships, towns etc. vanish behind the horizon.

3. Startrails

4. GPS

5. Gravity

6. Jetstream

You may not understand how this points can disprove a flat earth, so if you wish i can further explain those.

Refraction does not explain a sunset in any way.

Flat Earth Debate / Sunset on flat earth
« on: August 11, 2016, 07:13:32 AM »
Hi,

Wondering why people belive in flat earth, I thought I open a thread about the easiest method to disprove flat earth.

So, for a lot of observable stuff, flat earthers have found their own way of explaining them. Yet for Sunset/rise I have never found an explanation. May someone enlighten me?

Flat Earth General / Why do people believe in flat earth?
« on: August 11, 2016, 05:11:11 AM »
I recently found some flat earth videos on youtube and found myself fascinated by them. It's not actually that I thought the fe model would be in any way convincing, but it's interesting to see what kind of people actually believe it.

In found that there are roughly two "categories" of people:

1. Low to mid level intelligence combined with no or bad education. Can easily be detected when you hear stuff like "But if the earth spins with xxxx m/s at the equator, how comes I can jump and land at the same place? Those people might be trolls tho.

2. Mid level up do seemingly decent intelligent people with often not too bad education. Those people sometimes have created their own world-view, which is often working on first glance. So I somehow admire their dedication to flat-earth.

Now I wonder: Are here any people  that do actually belive in flat earth?
How comes you do believe in flat earth, since it can actually be disproven easily?
What makes you feel you need an alternative view of our world/universe? Is it just the urge to be more than one small human in the whole universe?
