Flat Earth General / NEXT WEEK I WILL PROVE THE EARTH IS ROUND !
« on: August 27, 2010, 04:25:04 AM »
I am to holiday on Kefalonia next week. I have taken holidays there before and i am aware that from my room, which is upon high, i can see the beach and on the horizon is a shipping lane for the cruise ships visiting the various islands. The beach is no more than 50 yards from the rooms balcony. Therefore I intend to have my domestic life partner (DLP) stand, with camera, on the balcony whilst i stand directly in line on the beach. We will take a photograph, on DLP's mark (seeing a ship on the horizon) I am convinced that i will not have a ship in my photo yet my DLP, 50 yards away, will.

If nothing else i will have done more experimentation than anyone else since Rowbum.

First of all I have to say that i promise that i am not taking the piss. I am interested.

What is this free software thing all about? Are people actually trying to create a world where all software is free or is it just an alternative way?

Thanks

Hi,

I am concerned you do not allow l e m o n s into the random musings forum. Is this blatant homophobia?

Thanks

In the 6th Sense why doesn't Bruce realise he's dead sooner. How does he manage to get into the boys house and be sitting on the chair with the mother waiting for him to come home. Presumably in order for him to think he's alive he would have had to knock the door, she answers, they exchange pleasantries and sit down.

I watched it again recently.

Flat Earth Q&A / Homework
« on: July 09, 2009, 07:50:46 AM »
I was holidaying on Menorca recently and I was in an 8th floor hotel room. My balcony had a sea view. One day I stood on my balcony and i could see, quite clearly, a cruise liner. I ran down to the seaside and, alas, the cruise liner had gone "how odd" i thought. Back on my balcony the cruise liner appeared again. I repeated this test 5 times, so it was a "fair test".

Distance from balcony to seaside <100 metres.

Question - where did the cruise liner go?

Answer should be submitted by no later than 18.00hrs GMT 10th July 2009.
Please show your workings out.

Flat Earth Q&A / the moon (take2)
« on: May 06, 2009, 04:26:34 AM »
I posted this earlier but it got moved to Complete Nonsense. I'm hoping that my slight changes will allow it to stay in Q&C .

On Sunday evening I was sitting on my balcony when i noticed the Moon in the sky. So what you may ask, the Moon comes out every evening? Ahhhhh, but it was only 7.30pm bst and the Sun was still out.

Sometimes it seems like FET considers the moon almost like a "night sun" that brinks darkness with each appearance and I wondering how FET explains my sighting of the Moon. Every diagram I have seen shows the sun and the moon almost oppposite each other in each 'hemisphere'.

Any FET help as to the Moons apparently random appearance, as always, greatly received.

There is a golf hole in Africa where the tee is 1400ft above the green 640 yards away. Average club head speed on impact is about 100mph (give or take 5mph). Question - Will the ball go in a continous arc down to the hole or, because of the height, when it runs out of speed simply drop from the air?

I have not idea how to start working this out and can't afford the green fee !

If I worked for NASA i think i'd start saying that i'd 'discovered' that the eart was actually flat and just looks round from up high because of light magic etc.. that way it would be like going back to the glory days, investment wise.

Flat Earth Q&A / The Humber Bridge
« on: November 21, 2008, 04:02:09 AM »
Teh Humber bridge is 1410 metres long.

It's towers are 36mm (1.4 inches) further apart at the top than at the bottom due to the curvature of the earth

See the 8th Fact down - http://www.humberbridge.co.uk/interest.php

Since this is a solid object would it not be easy to prove this is the case using simple maths? Therefore proving the earth is round?

Flat Earth Debate / Open letter to Flat Earth Society - Bransons Rocket
« on: August 15, 2008, 04:21:57 AM »
To whom it may concern,

I have been in discussions with a few of your members about the possibility of raising the capital to send Neeman on Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic flights. The basic gist of the plan is that a fund, linked with this site, is started and members are encouraged to put minimum 10 in the pot in order to raise 102,000 for the flight. According to the stats on this site you have 10852 members so if each of them put their hand in their pocket there would be more than enough money for the flight and enough left over for a fancy party when he gets back.

I am more than aware that this plan has gaping holes in it, ready to be filled with cries of 'FAKE' and 'CONSPIRACY' . I would like to have a good honest chat about how to a) safely and securely raise the capital, and b) make this 100% conclusive with no wiggle room.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Q: "What is the circumference and diameter of the Earth?"
A: "Circumference: 78225 miles, Diameter: 24,900 miles

How was this data collected?

Q: "What about the stars, sun and moon and other planets? Are they flat too? What are they made of?"

A: The sun and moon, each 32 miles in diameter, circle Earth at a height of 3000 miles at its equator, located midway between the North Pole and the ice wall. Each functions similar to a "spotlight," with the sun radiating "hot light," the moon "cold light." As they are spotlights, they only give light out over a certain are which explains why some parts of the Earth are dark when others are light. Their apparent rising and setting are caused by optical illusions.

How was this data collected?

Q: "Please explain sunrises/sunsets."

A: It's a perspective effect.  Really, the sun is just getting farther away; it looks like it disappears because everything gets smaller and eventually disappears as it gets farther away.

What experiments were carried out to discover this. Are the results readily available?

Q: Do you have a map?

A: See this one, created by one of our members.  There is also this map attributed to a person named Wilbur Voliva, and another by Heinrich Scherer.
Also, there is Cosmas Indicopleustes' world picture, 6 th century in the Christian Topography.

Do you have a real map drawn up by a cartographer?

Flat Earth Q&A / global warming solution
« on: August 12, 2008, 09:06:14 AM »
When the ice caps melt and the earth starts drowning do you think 'they' will just drill through the ice wall, fit a tap and drain off some of the water?

Flat Earth Debate / Flat earth seasons
« on: August 12, 2008, 05:05:10 AM »
I might be confused, it's easily done. I have a two questions.

Looking at the diagram in the FAQ to demonstrate seasons it shows the sun being further away in winter and closer during summer. This would explain why it's hotter and colder but wouldn't it make days longer in winter due to the suns longer orbit and shorter in summer due to it's shorter orbit?

How long is an average day?

I have searched and searched for an answer and can't find anything. Insult me, call me whatever, i'm just interested.

thanks
