Basically, YOU are telling me that all my friends must be part of some vast conspiracy to fake space. And they have never told me. And not only are they feakin it, but NASA is and so is Space and Virgin Galactic and Planetary Resources and The Planetary Science Institute here in Tucson and all the people I know who work on the OSIRIS-Rex mission and HiRISE and at the Upper Building where I volunteer, and all my fellow members of the Tucson Astronomical Society.

And I guess that in a way I am in on it because I volunteer to help run the public telescope, and at Star Parties, and through UofA SEDS and the Kuiper Circle and UofA Science, though if there is a conspiracy, which some of my closest and life-long friends are in on, I have never been told, and they have never let it slip even when we've gotten intoxicated together.

Do you think it's maybe because I'm not wearing a tight enough tin foil hat that I am not seeing the truth?
Nah, I don't think you need the hat.
So, going for a ride into space soon?

You are actually kinda making my case for me, there are multiple, multi-million dollar companies around the world currently striving to make space tourism the next big thriving industry. It's a potential market worth billions, and the first tourists will fly within the next 5 years. (Of course, I'm sure you will claim that each and every one of them are lying.)

And yeah, as prices drop, I *do* expect to fly into space before I die.

It's happening. Unless all of these companies and their investors and even their customers are all part of same vast lie or conspiracy. To what end, I have no idea.

And yet you are still in denial. So either you are deeply delusional, or a troll. (I'm actually leaning towards the latter, because I'm not sure anyone could actually be as thick-headed and ignorant as you seem to be. But then again, Zero Point seems to think that people are faking Australia. So maybe you do think that people are faking all of space industry...)

United states aren't actually best friends with some of these countries.
Who told you this? Do you believe everything you are told?
They share a common interest of hiding the Truth and Light of God.

Do you believe everything that you read in a several thousand year-old book?

I believe the Word of God. Do you believe God is a liar?

Do you believe that Allah and Mohammad are liars? Do you believe that Krishna is a liar? How do you know that your God is "the" one true God? Because your book tells you so? Because there's another book that says that Allah is the one true God. Which book am I to believe?

Frankly, I don't believe that God exists. And even if I am wrong and He or She or It does exist, I don't believe that a bunch of Sun-baked goat herders living in a tiny cornor of the Middle East thousands of years ago wrote down "His" Word. Because according to their supposedly divinely-inspired book, the the world is flat and the stars sit above it on a dome, which is not only NOT true, and been *proven* as such, but it reflects the exact kind of Cosmology that you would expect from a bunch of ignorant savages who have no knowledge of astronomy or natural history, and believe that they are the center of the Universe, and are God's "chosen people". Now, if the Cosmology of the Hebrews reflected what the universe actually looks like - which is something that they could not p ossibily have known back then, then I would be the first to think that it was somehow divinely inspired.

I love these one liners. Fantasize much?

Virgin Galactic. If you flew on Virgin Galactic, you'd still be in denial.

http://www.virgingalactic.com/
What makes your link any more real than this one?
http://www.startrek.com/
Actually I think my link is more believable.

This is what I mean about your denialism rabbit hole. Nobody is *faking* Virgin Galactic. I have multiple friends (because I live in Tucson ad volunteer at the Planetarium and through UofA Science) who went to the first VG test flight. I'm reasonably sure that they were all there, and most of them have movies and pictures.

But, of course, to sustain your Flat Earth delusions, you have to assume that either I am lying, or my friends are lying, or the vast conspiracy *faked* a space launch in front of thousands and thousands of people...because...?

And, in the near future, when VG starts sending it's currently booked clients up into space, you will come up with some sort of BS story to explain how that can't be happening. All those clients are lying, or they "just flew beneath the dome" and how all their pictures of the Earth are "shot through a fish-eye lens".

Because this isn't about finding truth, this isn't about what's real or not. It's about sustaining your paranoid delusions of a giant conspiracy involving millions and millions of people around the world.

" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">
WTF, you start off talking about rabbit holes, then you tell us you have multiple friends because you live in Tucson and are reasonably sure they were at the VG test flight. Then you tell me in the near future when VG is sending people into blah, blah.
And to top it off you going off at me about grand delusions.
Remind me again what I am trying to tell you, then have a good think about what you are trying to me.

Basically, YOU are telling me that all my friends must be part of some vast conspiracy to fake space. And they have never told me. Maybe he mean culturally, not physically  ;)

You mean that Australian's regularly nuke their towns? Like so much its part of their culture now? :P

Obviously man, have you never seen Mad Max!? Or any of the other post-apocalyptic movies or TV shows based in Australia, like The Rover, and The Tribe? The Australian Film Board finds it cheaper and easier to just nuke the place regularly, to attract big movie studios.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Spaceflight conspiracy

So I read about NASA being a conspiracy and faking all the space launches, since obviously you can't put an artificial satelite into orbit around a flat object accelerating through spacetime. So my question is; how can ESA, India, russia, China, Japan, Iran, Syria, Israel, Nigeria I could go on about countries with space programs and satellites in space. Are they all in on the same scam? Why would all these countries join in and protect this? United states aren't actually best friends with some of these countries. Seems a bit much to grasp dont you think? Did India fake the mars mission? Did ESA really land on a comet? And what is Elon musk doing, spenning his own money on spaceflight?

Not just Elon Musk but all the private rocket programs, such as Virgin Galactic, as well as the *military* space program the US has, and private groups like Planetary Resources, and basically anyone involved in private satellite construction, plus all the companies who contract with those companies. And we'd have to add all the research institutes like JPL and the Planetary Sciences Institute. As well as researchers and universities and scientists and professors around that world. And don't forget all of the telecommunications corporations, the media, and NOAA. And probably a lot of other people I am leaving out.

Faking space would be the biggest cover-up in history, and actually to pull it off would require a sizable percentage of the human race, all doing it to fool a small pool of conspiracy theorists.

but not in places where it would be obstructed by the Earth's core on a Round Earth?
Citation?
It's called a seismic shadow zone. A quick Google search should get you plenty of sources. It's widespread knowledge. Seismic waves are also reflected, diffracted, and refracted by the Earth's core.
I am not asking for a cartoon.  I can get those for free every Saturday morning.

I am asking you for evidence.

Provide your sentient reader an example of a real earthquake/tremor that happened ---- location and time, please.  Then, provide evidence of that exact earthquake/tremor being detected EVERYWHERE ON EARTH as "predicted" by the popular Hollyweird model.  Finally, provide evidence that earthquake/tremors were NEVER detected within your Hollyweird/Shadow zones as predicted by your fantasy model.

It's not the Hollywood model. It's the standard model used by all geologists and seismologists. Every time there is a major earthquake, the model is used to better pinpoint the epicenter. This is the standard model taught in basic college geology and planetary science classes. This is information that you can learn in any geology textbook or popular science book written for laymen, and most any Natural History museum or science museum or even kid's science museum with a section on Earth Sciences will have an exhibit were you can learn about this. The Sonora Desert Museum here in Tucson has such an exhibit. The only reason that you know nothing about it, it because you have chosen to remain willfully ignorant of basic scientific fact, facts that any high-school kid learns about. If you choose not to learn about it yourself before dismissing it, that is your own problem.

Correctly understanding what occurs physically in nature does not mean mainstream physicists are capable of correctly understanding what occurs physically in nature.

Are there any other members in this forum apart from the 3 or 4 trolls
answering me back along 48 hours..?

.

It might be best if you were to reveal all the information pertaining to your cube Earth theory/ post apocalyptic scenario and then answer questions and comments. It seems you are reluctant to provide additional details, but are upset we are not continuing to ask.

Why would I do that..? There are no members at this forum with interest on more information... only avatars jumping to find or formulate incoherent statements like that you made saying I don't want to give more information then the already disclosed... which I indeed do... but you are just another troll who made only 120 comments on the forum and are just interested like all the previous trolls on the source. I will not even consider you... I'll just give some time to see if there are any more members who seek more information or just trolls... if so, I'll find somewhere else to disclose the information, as this obviously seams to be the wrong place... build to attract and eliminate, rather then anything else.

You are seriously mistaken in your beliefs.

I live in New Zealand, which is part of Australasia (combination of Australia and New Zealand) and I can assure you that our two countries have not been nuked.

I think your mental state is somewhat compromised - could I recommend that you see a doctor immediately, as you are obviously very unwell and in need of help.

Can you prove that you live in NZ? How do we know that you aren't a shill, for THEM?

Clearly you are either a liar or a troll.

I'll bet you even believe that NASA actually landed on the Moon!!!

Or is it possible that you are sincere, and only *think* that you live in NZ!? Ask yourself, do you really live where you think that you live?

I actually saw those Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies, and as far as I can tell, NZ is mostly CGI. And the whole place is over-run with Orcs, so clearly you should be dead. Unless...are you an Orc?

Tell me, have you stopped chasing Hobbits?

Are bridge-builders yet another in the long, long, long list of people who are "in" on the "conspiracy"!?

Verrazano–Narrows Bridge:

"Because of the height of the towers (693 ft or 211 m) and their distance apart (4,260 ft or 1,298 m), the curvature of the Earth's surface had to be taken into account when designing the bridge—the towers are 1 5⁄8 inches (41.275 mm) farther apart at their tops than at their bases; they are not parallel to each other."

" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">

http://wow-really.blogspot.com/2006/10/high-and-wide.html

And there are other very long bridges where the curvature of the Earth has to be taken into account.

And not just bridges, but large particle accelerators like the LHC have to keep the curvature of the Earth in mind, of the particle beams won't meet up.

If I where to picture a leprechaun standing in front of my target when I pulled the trigger and doing so improved my accuracy, would that prove the existence of leprechauns to you? What if I trained others to do the same and they all had similar results?

See, stuff like this. It's not so much that you all lack critical thinking skills...it's just that...you're all doing it wrong.

This isn't about some magic blue feather that makes sharp-shooters and snipers better marksmen, this is a verifiable fact that we know works AND we understand HOW and WHY it works.

It's yet another piece of evidence, that, taken with many, many other verifiable facts, combined with observations (we've seen a round Earth from space, we can see the other planets are round through any telescope, we can see the shadow of the Moon curve, etc, etc...) all add up to one conclusion - the Earth is a ball. It spins. We live on it.

(BTW, I was in JROTC in high school in Germany in the mid-80's (dad was stationed at Augsburg). I won a Marksman medal in Summer Camp, so I'm a bit familiar with this stuff, though not an expert...but my instructor taught us about this effect...unless, HE was in one the conspiracy as well...)

But, just for arguments sake - if there was verifiable proof that putting a Leprechaun in front of a target ALWAYS improved marksmanship. And the same people - all around the world - short worse without it, it wouldn't be proof that Leprechauns existed, but it would be proof that there was a statistically verifiable and repeatable effect at work there. Even if it was just that marking your target with a visible green sign improved aim.

Probably no Flat Earthers are chiming in because this forum has very slow traffic - but maybe it's  because as crazy and deluded as they are, even THEY can see through your crazy.

Plus, you kinda make them look bad, because a lot of your insane "reasoning" is exactly the same kind of "reasoning" that they use to "prove" that the Earth is (supposedly) flat. (Hint: It's not.)

(Or maybe they are smart enough to see through *your* obvious trolling, and only a few of us are naive enough to believe that you might actually believe all of this insanity, and for that I commend them.)

And nobody is "trolling" you, we are asking how this could possibly be true when it's EASILY DISPROVEN.

I'm just gonna repeat what I said in the Cubic Earth thread:

Australia just had an election. Somebody better tell them that they've been nuked.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-09-19/andrew-hastie-wins-canning-by-election/6789334

And anyone can easily call any phone number in Australia for themselves.

Here's one for an Aussie pizza joint: :+61 8 8410 4911 It's 12:10 in Canberra as I type this, so they might be open or opening soon.

And you can randomly pick any number that you Google online. There must literally be *millions* of them, they can't all be fake.

And anyone with the money for an airline or boat ticket can *visit* Australia.

If you're gonna make crazy stuff up, you gotta try harder.  Don't pretend that a place doesn't exist anymore, when anyone can call that place and talk to someone there. This is the age of the Information Superhighway. The "Global Village" - you can actually TALK to people in Australia. And just common sense tells me that if an ENTIRE NATION, an ENTIRE SUB-CONTINENT, was wiped off the face of the Earth, we'd all know about it. There are students and tourists here in the USA (where I am living) who would have known, and I'm pretty sure that "THEY" couldn't have gotten to them all, nor is it likely that every single one of them is an actor. Same for the Americans who have family visiting the country.

Unless someone is faking a WHOLE COUNTRY!!!

And no, I don't have any family in Australia, but I have online friends for there, and they all assure me that they haven't been nuked. Unless *they* are all in on this giant hoax too.

Seriously, the gig is up, stop making easily testable and falsifiable claims, admit that you are a troll and you fooled us ll, or seriously, if you believe this, please seek medical help before yo0u become a danger to yourself and/or others.

You are all insanely mad and I'll have to disclose to you what I did not want to yet, but this is how
Oceania and Australia are presently, so get cured:

Australia was nuked and that's what's left of it...
and Oceania is now an infertile land mass covered with ice.
See the crater.

This is serious so don't troll.

You do know that Max Max is fiction, and not a documentary?

Seriously, now you have got to be just trolling with this whole thing. And if you aren't, please get psychological help. I'm serious.

If Australia was nuked, how is it that they still put out new TV shows and people from Australia can still call their loved ones at home. Hell, any one of us here could easily call Australia ourselves, and talk to someone there.

Seriously, this has all been good fun, it was a GREAT troll, you had us all fooled, now it's time to come clean.

Light does bend. It can be bent by a massive gravitational field. (Though, it's not so much that the light is bending, as space itself is curved.) Light just doesn't bend in the way that Flat Earthers think that it does.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Earthquake tremors and the Earth's core
« on: September 21, 2015, 05:23:24 PM »
There are other factors science ignores, such as conditions or substance below that we can not detect that may amplify or diminish seismic waves. Most of this argument ties into the theory of plate tectonics, which I do not agree with. I believe the expanding Earth theory makes more sense in my opinion.

Until we are able to delve deeper underground we can not be certain of the technology. To me that is the same as trying to identify the contents of a building using only X-rays.

No matter what causes earthquakes, they undeniably do create tremors that can travel to other parts of the world, in the form of waves. The source of the tremors matters not, only the pattern that they follow, which fits much better with a Round Earth (with a liquid and solid core) than with a Flat Earth. And until you can find some reason why these patterns would occur on a Flat Earth (other than "Something else must be at play, I just have no clue what"), Round Earth wins this round.

Tsk tsk, STP. Our daddies told us not to cite Wikipedia.

Sorry, but Wikipedia is often an excellent source for science articles.

But okay, I cite the USGS instead. (I know, I know, the USGS is controlled by the Illuminati...)

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Long Range Snipers & the Coriolis Effect.
« on: September 21, 2015, 05:16:09 PM »
I already said they might need to factor in the wind. How does wind direction prove round Earth theory? In any case, if a sniper has to make adjustments for clockwise and counter clockwise wind that would disrupt his shot, he might not be the best person for the task. He should move closer or send a drone or something.

Except snipers and long-range sharpshooters ALL have to do this. So are you saying that they are all bad?

And if we fired from a drone or robot long distance, *they* would have to be programmed to take this effect into account as well, or they would miss.

And it's not that they are just taking the wind into account (they do that too) because the wind can blow from any direction, but the coriolis effect is different for different latitudes, and it's always in a specific direction for the Northern hemisphere, and in the opposite specific direction for the Southern hemisphere.

This is what I mean by denial of facts and reality. Long-range sharpshooters ALL do this. They admit to doing this, they talk about it, they teach others about it. So either the Earth spins, or they are ALL in on this huge conspiracy.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: The Cubic Earth

The problem with arguing with Zero Point is that, well, besides being pointless, because he's delusional (like most Flat Earthers) is that, like Flat Earthers, no amount of photographic evidence is going to change his mind, because he's just going to dismiss everything as faked.

If you took Zero Point up on a rocket and dropped him in a space suit over the South Pole, he'd keep insisting that the whole thing was some sort of trick all the way down until he burned up on re-entry.

You can't convince delusional people of facts, because they deny even what's in front of them.

I met a guy recently who was convinced that the entire Tucson El Con Mall was a secret CIA base that existed for the sole purpose of following *him* (because he "knew stuff, too much stuff) and that people in the mall were putting surveillance cameras in his house and following him around. And no amount of taking to this guy would convince him otherwise. In fact, when he'd go into the place - when he could be dragged there - he believed that there was a secret base *under* the Mall that nobody could see, and that the employees were just actors faking it, in the same way that Flat Earthers think that all astronauts, cosmonauts and taikonauts are actors faking it.

My point is, you can't argue with people who are delusional, because even when they see evidence that they delusions aren't real, they twist that evidence around and see it as further evidence that their delusions are real. (Like when you show people images from space, they claim that those images were "obviously doctored" and further proof that their NASA conspiracy theory is right. And it certainly doesn't help when you say right up front, that yes, the imagines did require some computer enhancement, because X,Y,Z, because all they hear is "computer enhancement", and they feel further vindicated.)

There is no one trying to shoot you down if you want to fly over the south pole, in fact commercial airliners use the route every day/week.

Antarctica has a no fly zone from a certain point and air force will force you to change your flight direction, and if you don't they will shoot you down.
Commercial airliners only fly over a very short distance to the ice barrier... they do not cross it through the mountains range.

Wrong. You can book flights over Antarctica and the South Pole in the Summer.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism_in_Antarctica

This is bullshit, the magnetic force is nowhere near as strong as gravity and it only afects charged particles, that's why we have Aurora borialis and Aurora australis.

The magnetic pull is indeed so so strong that the compass needles points there from all directions around... even in Madagscar, which is so far away, the needle points the Magnetic Center due to its attractive pull.

I hate to agree with Zero Point here, but technically, compared to gravity, magnetism is stronger. In fact, compared to the pother 3 Fundamental Forces, Gravity is the weakest, and it's actually a major mystery in physics today. But the reason you can stick a magnet on a fridge is because the magnet is actually overcoming the *entire* Earth's gravitational force on that magnet.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/blogs/physics/2012/09/why-is-gravity-such-a-weakling/

HOWEVER, so physicists would disagree about that..

Flat Earth Debate / Re: The Cubic Earth

Earth, Air, Fire and Water?

Seriously?

This isn't even science man, it's alchemy.

Earth, Air, Fire and Water aren't elements. At best they represent states of matter: Solid, Gas, Plasma & Liquid.

What's next, are you going to talk about how the Cube Earth affects the body's "humors"?

Oh wow, this is great - I thought (wrongly) that I had encountered the peak of Flat Earther denialism when I saw a video of Flat Earthers claiming that NASA pictures of the Earth from space make the Earth look like a globe *not* because NASA is faking the photos (as most Flatheads claim) - but because, get this, the Earth's gravity *bends light* to make the Earth look round!! WOW.

So even if you took one of these Flat Earther up in a rocket and showed them that the Earth was clearly a ball, they would STILL deny it.

BUT no, that is not as extreme as the denial of what you can clearly see with you own eyes gets...it gets even MORE delusional than that - I saw a video on Youtube claiming that *quantum mechanics* "proves the Earth is flat", because, get this, "beliefs change reality", and so if enough people believe in a round Earth, the Earth will *become round*...but, it's "really flat"! Uh, wow, talk about "The Day the Universe Changed"! Funny thing is, if that was even true (and it's not) then what *is* objective truth? How is a round Earth any less true than a flat one? And if believing in a round Earth makes the Earth round, then it *is* now round, even if it *was* flat before! And maybe it was only flat before (according to this weird twisting of quantum physics) - maybe it was flat then because people *believed* that it was flat! Man, I seriously gotta stay away from Youtube, this is driving me batty....
