I think it is flat- otherwise wouldn't ships be sailing downhill on every voyage / direction?  Round earthers explain that...

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: Important & Complicated Question Here
« on: August 14, 2015, 12:36:24 PM »

I'm new to this myself but as I understand the theory it goes something like this -

Re your question:  Is it flat and round at the same time?   Think of it like a pizza plate - circular but with a small raised rim round the edge.

What would be on the other side of this rim?  Is this the promised land available to us when we have the courage and the means to get there?  the new heaven and earth alluded to in the bible?  What's underneath it? Who knows? Is this the hollow earth?

I agree with you that thinking of it as flat with the sun and moon and stars above feels much more appealing.  I had a poster of the round earth in space (the official poster which I bought at the Science Museum in UK)  it never resonated with me in any way.

Thanks for your replies.  I guess I didn't phrase the question very well.  I was really wondering if the distances/direction of travel were different to a pilot or a ships captains expectations as like the rest of us they have been brought up to believe in a global world.  Navigation is not a strong subject of mine.  But as you make the point they are using navigation systems and following orders/training so perhaps they don't notice.  I have travelled abroad and I certainly had no idea.  The conditioning is so strong we don't even question or notice,  at least I didn't until now.

Flat Earth General / Airline Pilots and Ship's Captains: do they know?

Good Evening (It is here)  :)

So what about airline pilots and ship's captains then?  Do they know, have they guessed that they're on a flat earth?  How is this covered up/accounted for?  I'm genuinely curious about this.  Forgive my lack of knowledge here but do they navigate using flat earth maps?  Surely they must otherwise wouldn't they get lost?  How is this explained or taught to them?

Flat Earth General / Let me have your thoughts please

Greetings Flat earthers  :)

I'm new to the site but fascinated by the idea of a flat earth.  It sounds plausible to me.

I have a few questions, they may have been asked before but I can't find the answers so please forgive me for asking again.

1.  How does the sun appear to rise and set by going up and down below the horizon?  Can this be explained by the flat earth theory?

2. When travelling east to west i.e when travelling from USA to the UK the time is less than when going the other way i.e. West to East.  This is explained as the earths rotation shortening the travelling time.  In flat earth theory is the earth rotating or just the sky?  If the earth is stationary then the distance is not shortened so travelling time (flying) would surely be the same both ways?

3.  Is the sun on a spiral or crossover loop  to explain summer and winter ?

4. How are the movements of the tides explained under flat earth theory?

Any information of this sort I would be interested to read about.

Best regards
