It's not exactly the same, but pretty close http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy
that is interesting, but i dont think that the tea party is some new form of the Southern Strategy.

Are you a member of the Tea Party?

The Tea Party is a repackaging of the Southern Strategy.

Fame going downhill? Go apeshit and tell the media about it! So it has been, so it shall be.

His fame wasn't going downhill (it should have been), he was on the highest rated crappy sitcom, and he was the highest paid actor on TV.. I think he was getting $1.2 million per episode.  He got stretched out on cocaine and flipped.

  Suicide is a sin.

Says who, the catholics?  We have already established they arent christians.

Most Christians, even Protestants, view suicide as a sin. Catholics view it as an extremely serious sin, I think because it a sign of hopelessness and of losing one's faith.

You haven't established that Catholics aren't Christians, or given any good reason for your opinion that they aren't. I wish that you'd explain why you think this.

22810
That was my follow-up question. the current needs to go somewhere, and you're not a very good ground, so it circulates from one prong to the next.

Right, well I hadn't ever thought about how a taser works, and we were discussing the effects on a fetus. I was reading some dumbfuck cop forum and they were explaining to each other how tasers work.  I don't know how else a taser would work, I was just posting as I was learning about them. Is that alright with you?

22811
I thought the electricity came out of both prongs.. I haven't ever been tased, bro.

Catholics aren't christians....we've gone over this.

You never explained why you think they aren't Christians.

Because they are catholics.

Christians do not believe that you have to confess your sins to a priest.  That is just one of many differences.

That's a horrible answer, Wardogg.  Catholic Christians believe they have to confess their sins to a priest, and they believe this type of confession was instituted by Jesus.  You realize there were Catholic Christians long before there were Protestants?

Hmmm, apparently the electricity goes from prong to prong.  I always wondered how that worked.  I still don't understand how a fetus avoids the muscle contractions.

22815
Yeah, I'm sure it's much better for the baby to be zapped with 50,000 volts several times than it is to be physically dragged from a car.

An officer was holding Brooks? arm behind Brooks? back while she was being shocked.

They had her arm behind her back, and couldn't pull her out of the car?  She must have been really big and scary (and black).

Oh... I forgot lots of northern states only hire union members, damn Yankees.   Isn't the blame for that situation as much the employers fault as the unions? They don't have to agree with every demand the unions make, do they?

Yeah, that's what I was wondering.

Welcome back Roundypoo.

22820
What?  You were talking about the "dangers of tasers" earlier, as if tasering some huge psycho is the only thing cops are using them for.  I'm more concerned with cops tasering some 90yr old woman, or a college kid, or a kid in grade school.

22821
You can't get rid of the "potential for abuse" in a tool because the potential doesn't lie in the tool, it lies in the person using it.  I don't think you really understand what I'm saying, because you keep trying to make it about something else. I'm not against tasers, I think they're a great tool, if used properly.  Police who use them improperly need to be held accountable for their actions.

I hope you remember this discussion if you ever become a police officer. Don't tase me bro!   :P

22822
Actually the media barely covers what I'm talking about.  I'm not talking about the hundreds of people who've died from being tasered, I'm talking about the abuse and overuse of tasers by police officers... shit even security guards are tasering people as if it's perfectly acceptable.

When I told you to Google taser misuse it wasn't for the number of articles you'd find, it was so you could actually read up on the subject.  I don't know what  "soldier abuse" is, so I couldn't tell you if I think that is the norm for our military or something.  Tasers aren't the latest media boogieman, the abuse of tasers has been documented for nearly 10 years now. The media has long since moved on to the next thing.

22823
I wasn't comparing having a job to joining a health club.  When you join the a union you agree to pay dues, and you agree to allow the union to use the money collected, there is no force involved.

22824
That's a good idea.

like it or not hate speech is still protected free speech.  I know it is offensive and I am discusted by it too, however we can't go around bitching and crying every time somebody hurts our feelings.  It's a cruel world, people are cruel.

A crime against hate speech is essentially a thought crime.  If we were to ban it outright, then how could such things ever be properly discussed and exposed for the total crap that they are.

Incidentally, I was held up for over an hour getting to work on Tuesday because the WBC was protesting infront of a high school.  The police decided to shut down the road in front of the school, which is a main artery during rush hour.

I agree with you on the free speech/hate speech stuff... but I was wondering what you think about the police having to shut down a road during rush hour. Do people have the right to cause such inconvenience?

Well the WBC were not blocking the road, the police decided to close it down in case somebody was driving by and got butt hurt about the God Hates Gays signs and hit a protester with their car.  The WBC actually got a legal permit to protest at that place and time, so from a legal standpoint there really is nothing I can fault them on.  Personally I think they are douchebags, but they are not stupid, they have definately planned these out very well in a way so as to get the maximum amount of attention without breaking the law.

My advice, stop sueing them, when they come on the TV, turn it off.  Maybe when the networks figure out whenever they run a story showing these assholes their ratings plummet they will stop covering them.

Besides this Supreme Court ruling, I haven't really heard that much about them lately.  I think most of the news coverage is probably local.  I guess it's a big thing to have these assholes protesting in your town.  I agree that people should stop trying to sue them, and I wish the media wouldn't give them the time of day.  I also wish the police would stop trying so hard to protect them  :P

The danger of Tasers is highly exaggerated by the media.  You only hear about the cases where something goes wrong, not when the use of a Taser stops the cops from having to wrestle an enormous man into submission (running the risk that he might try to grab one of their guns).

I don't think the danger of tasers has been exaggerated at all.  Google taser misuse, and read some of the articles.  I don't have a problem with police using them in place of deadly force when they can,  I have a serious problem with police using them when they aren't necessary, when some other method would be much more suitable.  People are being tasered for being mouthy to cops, or just being pissed off and agitated, the police aren't even bothering to assess the situation, they're tasering people because it's easier.

22828
Right, if you join a health club you have to pay dues too, but no one forces you to join.  I'm not talking about salaries and benefits, I'm talking about the power the corporations buy with their campaign contributions.

22829
soupnazi, do you think corporations should be allowed to donate to political campaigns?
sure, but are corporations forcing their employees to pay dues and then using that money to donate?  or are they using money that was earned in other ways to donate?

You think unions force people to do things? Why should corporations have all the power their money can buy, and the workers get nothing?

I'm not a big fan of unions, but I also don't believe all the anti-union propaganda the right wingers spout.

Income tax is alright, I wish the system made more sense though.
