It appears the membergroup "Regular Members" currently has access to the smiley centre. I'll speak to the other admins about this.

Well, I was thinking of something that resembles the following:

I'll think of something else if this is not feasible. I can't think of anything related to zeteticism at the moment. I thought maybe a magnifying glass would work, but then I also thought it would make FEBs look like detectives instead of believers or zetetics.

I share Mike's sentiments in regards to the icons you've made for Technical Advisors and Flat Earth Editors, Thork. I also think the bamhammers could be uploaded specifically for the Christmas theme. I personally prefer a spark of light (or anything that illustrates it) as an icon for Flat Earth Believers, as it represents enlightenment (that is, the believers are enlightened now that they've realized the truth). Or, we could use something that illustrates a flat Earth.

It's totally up to you guys, though. I'll think a bit more.

EDIT: I think a magnifying glass could also be considered as it represents inquiry and investigation, which are key components of zeteticism. Actually, scratch that.

Technical Support / Re: Smilies: Find Them
« on: April 01, 2012, 05:25:07 PM »
First off, congratulations to Lorddave, Parsifal, and Thork!

Now, I agree that we could change the name of the membergroup, and I personally think the new name should be individualistic so that it is consistent with that of the other membergroups (with exception to The Elder Ones and Purgatory, of course). For instance, instead of "Admin Team" and "Mod Team," we have "Administrator" and "Planar Moderator" respectively, and I believe the same could be applied to the new tech group. Since Lorddave and the others are promoted to give technical advices to John, perhaps we could name the group as "Technical Advisor" (or, as Parsifal suggested, "Support Monkey").

For the child board, I think we could name it as simply "Technical Support". "Technology" is currently taken by another board (I'm aware that some boards currently have "Flat Earth" in their name, but I think this is primarily because they are where discussions related to FET or the FE movement belong), and the new tech board, as I understand it, is strictly for discussions on technical issues. Discussions on technology belong in Technology & Information.

Other suggestions are welcome.

Lorddave is right. Apparently when all the IPs Vongeo have used in the past were banned, one of your IPs was caught in the process. It's now removed from the ban. Sorry for the inconvenience! Let me know if you still cannot access the site.

Recently I've managed to motivate myself to start working out and doing cardio again. In addition, I've been trying to break the habit of sleeping late; however, I still find myself staying up later than I should from time to time.

I'm sorry to hear that, Nomad. I hope you'll get better soon.

Yeah, I really like the idea of having a general chat sticky in The Lounge. The proposed sticky is all about socialising, which is what The Lounge stands for. I always feel that board is missing something, and perhaps this is it.

Low content is what this entire forum is all about, but yet only certain individuals get banned for it. A great example of it is this very thread. You guys are completely ignoring my OP and concentrating on a typo. Very typical of FE forums. Great job,  you too Daniel wonderful job.

Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Regarding PizzaPlanet's Ban
« on: February 14, 2012, 09:45:20 PM »
Wilmore pretty much said what I would say. Though, I would like to say a few more things here..

PizzaPlanet only did explicitly accuse Parsifal to me. He had only told Daniel that his server was compromised without mentioning Parsifal in any way, and Daniel decided to ban Parsifal on his on reasoning (probably bullshit).
Daniel would need to confirm whether the bold part is true, as he has PP's private messages.

Quote from: Blanko
You don't need to trust him. You only need to consider that him lying does not mean that he's guilty, and therefore you're very potentially banning someone who has done nothing wrong. Or are you going to ban everyone who lies at you?
...
You don't, but you don't know that your story is true either. You don't have any solid evidence suggesting that your story is more plausible than mine. Hence, banning him is unjust. This is not a hard concept to grasp.
However, as you've mentioned, your claim (PP made up the "friend did it" story in order to set Parsifal free, as they are buddies; therefore, PP is innocent while Parsifal is not) could be just as implausible as ours, so we're also potentially unbanning someone who has done something wrong if we are to follow your reasoning here. Unbanning him could also be unjust.

Namely, he claimed that PizzaPlanet performed the attack on Parsifal's server, although everything we've found out so far suggests that Parsifal's server was not involved.
That's not true. Parsifal's server was involved in the attacks as well, based on the logs Daniel showed us.

Edit:
Either way, in the end we may just have to go with what John said:
To me its simpler than that.  PP said he would take responsibility for it.  Whether he did it or not, I assume he knew what it meant to take responsibility for an action.  As such, he got punished.

Thank you for the answer on Steven's issue. I'll let him know about the progress. Could you give a guesstimate date for when you'd be planning to lift the ban if we don't hear from Daniel?
I sent him a message about Steve's ban several hours ago, and I hope he'll respond soon. We'll lift the ban if we don't hear anything from him two or three days from now. I know it's bad form to do this since he, the owner and leader of this site, set up the ban personally, but something has to be done to resolve this issue.

As for the avatars (can I count sigs in too, please?): that would be brilliant. I've tried reporting a few in the past (and I'm guessing others have too). Some of them were addressed, some of them were ignored. All in all it usually depends on who read the report first.
Yeah, we discussed about this briefly in the past. I think that's doable as well.

As for the mods, I really don't think it would be that much of an outrage if you appointed some, at least temporarily. The forum is in an abysmal condition right now, and everyone's suffering in the process. You could do something similar as what you're planning to do with Steve - ask Daniel, and if he doesn't respond appoint one or two extra temporary mods, just for now. Daniel doesn't strike me as the guy who'd repress you for rescuing the forum. In my encounters with him, he's always seemed reasonable (although sometimes he'd just disappear in the middle of an e-mail exchange). This isn't about any drastic changes, it's about keeping the troll flow under control.
I included the proposal to appoint additional moderators in my message. We'll see what he thinks about this.

"Impotent admins" - I don't entirely understand. Part of what people are asking you guys to do is to "moderate the moderators". Someone needs to tell markjo to stop trolling, but he's a mod, so the only people who could do it would be you, Wilmore and Daniel. I'm sure that's something you're allowed to do, isn't it?
I'm not sure, sorry. As Wilmore said, when Daniel made me an admin, he only told me that I can now delete user accounts. He didn't say whether I can also manage or moderate moderators, although he did announce that administrators, except him, are still equal to moderators when he made Wilmore and DK as such. I suppose the rule still applies.

However, lets say you appointed a mod. Would Daniel even notice? I mean does he know who the mods are? And its all very well asking his permission, but who would he appoint? He doesn't know anyone. He is in no position of judgement to appoint anyone.

In an effort to move things along, can we have a process whereby we at least know who we want as a mod? Then instead of saying ... "Daniel, can we have some new mods?" we can say "Daniel, can x and y be mods?". This has obvious benefits in that Daniel can act directly and appoint them, or when he says "yes, fine, who?" you don't need another communication that takes 2 months to be answered to tell him and let him peruse/ignore/forget about it.

At the risk of encouraging the Rawlsian wrath of Wilmore, is it worth starting another thread in S&C about mods, to have a dialogue about who might be suitable? To allow people like myself to rule ourselves out and to let others put forward their case. To see who those who actually use the forum would want enforcing rules over them. I mean, the last appointment (Markjo) was a total and utter failure. I'd hate to see you pick ClockTower as the next mod for the same reasons. But we have some great people to pick from. Lord Dave, General Disarray turned into a human eventually, Vindictus, Mr Pseudonym, Particle Person and I'm sure I'm forgetting a load too.
I could be wrong, but I believe that, when Erasmus and EnragedPenguin were administrators, there were a few public discussions on who is qualified to serve as moderator, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to have them again. However, I think we should respect Daniel's authority, as he is our president after all. Perhaps one day he'll delegate additional responsibilities to administrators.

Steve's banning.                           No resolution. He's still banned despite everyone knowing he wasn't responsible.
I and the others have suggested lifting Steve's ban several times on the super secret board, but so far we've received no approval or disapproval from Daniel. I'll ask him again and see what happens. Hopefully he'll give the go-ahead eventually, as this controversy has gone on long enough already and I, too, think that punishing a person based on inconclusive evidence is not justified. If not (that is, if we receive nothing from him in the next few days), then either Wilmore or I shall lift the ban. However, if he decides to voice his disapproval, then there's not much we could do. Sorry, Steve. :'(

Twitter spyware.                           No response. The site continues to harvest browser data and report to Twitter.
New mods                                     No resolution. The thread got closed.
New Captcha                                No resolution. Most people in agreement that its a good idea.
Admins to be able to fix things.     No response. They are still impotent.
Daniel to participate or leave.       No resolution. He's done neither.
I know I'm merely repeating what has been said many times before, but the only person who has the privilege to resolve these issues is Daniel. Though, I've updated the software a few times during his absence, and so far he has not said anything about it. Perhaps this is one of the very few things which I am privileged to do.

Avatar sizes                                  No response.
If you come across an avatar that takes too long to load, let me know and I'll remove it. I believe this is PP's suggestion. Other than that, there's not much I could do due to software limitation.

Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Question: Why is markjo a mod?
« on: October 26, 2011, 02:42:49 AM »
I looked at markjo's posts as requested, and overall they seem fine. Maybe there is some misunderstanding between him and some of you, but so far he has been reasonable and fair in his moderation. Like John, I honestly don't recall markjo making a call that was terribly unfair or abusive. However, if any of you remain convinced that he should not be a moderator, I recommend you to talk to Daniel about this. It's ultimately up to him to decide whether markjo should remain a moderator of these boards, as Wilmore and I currently have neither the power nor privilege to make such decision.

I thank those of you who have started working on the wiki recently, and Roundy for attempting to stimulate community interest in the FAQ. Users who wish to improve the FAQ can now apply to join the FEW membergroup renamed as "Flat Earth Editor." In addition, they will have access to the FEW board renamed as "Flat Earth Workshop."  Users who are currently editing the new wiki are equally eligible to join the group, and those who are already members of the group can work on the FAQ in addition to the wiki if they feel like to. Wilmore and I thought it is unnecessary to create a whole new membergroup and board just for the FAQ'ers, especially since they work on the same theory as the wiki editors. If you are interested in these projects and would like to join, feel free to post your request here or send it to one of us admins via PM.

Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Alteration of my profile
« on: October 13, 2011, 12:23:40 PM »
I have no idea what happened to your profile. I checked the tracker, but no changes made on your profile have been recorded. I have not edited anyone's profile signature this month, and I honestly don't think Daniel has done so either. Unless the signature contains something offensive or too large in size, I see no good reason to edit it.
