the more you look at it, the stupider it sounds.

Actually, I'm just taking an opportunity to reveal the impossibility of the FE conspiracy.

I will give $100 to anyone who can recreate this video and make it look even close to convincing. good luck..  ;)

The conspiracy pays that x100, no one would go for it ::)

if they paid that much, they'd run out ofmoney FAST. The entire sattelite images from the weather stations need to faked, right? If they paid 100,000 for 1 2 min video, get 16 billion annually, and have to run 24 hour generators... THAT COINCIDE WITH GROUND BASED RADAR! They can't be recycled, else everyone would know immediately.

50,000 per minute x60 min x 24 x 365 = 26,280,000,000. They only have 16 billion to spend! Whats more, that image was only for a small portion of the earth: they'd have to do it for almost the entire surface!

Then there is the other stuff they need to fake: all the sattelites themselves, communications, navigation systems, the construction of every radio transmitter so that it doesn't work past the "fabricated" arc of the earth's curvature, bribes to educational facilities, bribes to private sector groups, bribes to government contractors, assassinations of those about to reveal the secret (columbia/challenger), space shuttle launches, "deep space probes", simulated debris from downed sattelites/shuttles/rockets, "mars rovers," then all the Hubble Pictures, spy "psuedolites," psuedolite maintainence and control, psuedolite construction, all the videos from every space mission, all the pictures from appollo 11 and every other space mission, all the simulated "free fall" from "astronauts" in space, all the planning for this massive conspiracy, spies on the members so they know when someone leaked, installation of simulated "windows" on private spacecraft, bribing high-altitude pilots since the 1940s, AND still have  enough money to make their venture profitable enough to risk doing all this! For each member of the conspiracy, as well! And with that list, you'd need at least 10,000 people, and thats a very conservative estimate!

WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM!?!?!?!

Because air is fluid and such, cbarnett is right in saying it'd not be the same. However, i'm not convinced myself that it'd be different enough to merit particular notice.

Being an RE'er, i usually go by what the FE'ers say.

However, in my mind, the UA is more like a giant wind blowing up, and the earth acts much like a sail.

Regardless, the UA doesn't work, so...

Remember guys, the conspiracy screwed up focault's penduluum, messed with Eratosthene's head, and killed Magellen and commandeered his ship in the phillipenes so they could make it seem like the earth was round.

So if my dog observes a quantum particle, he can know its exact velocity and position?  That's badass, here Lassie!
It wouldn't be lassie, it'd be a Cat, probably named Schroedinger.

That sounds pretty plausible, actually. Plausibility and reality are differnent though, and i'm not an astrophysicist, so i can't help ya.

One theory I have is that mass will all recondense itself under the laws of gravitation so that every piece of matter in the universe is trapped in a black hole. Eventually, the black holes merge, and when ever little piece is in the same infinitesimal speck, it undergoes a sort of critical mass, and you get another big bang. I envision this on a super-huge scale--it actually sounds kindof like a flower opening and closing for night and day. That'd be pretty wierd, if the universe was nothing more than the bud of a giant flower.

Ah, i see. In that case, it'd work pretty much the sam, though i expect there would be some variations too minute for laymen like us to find.

most of us know the earth is a slightly squashed sphere.

Its impossible for the air to be moving up at the same speed as the earth. Its fluid, its density is extraordinarily small compared to the ground and the water. Furthermore, as it is a gas, it has no surface tension. It would be flattened against the surface of FE immediately and pushed off the edge by the forces.

No, I agree that the Earth accelerates the rock "up".  I do not agree that the Earth accelerates up to the rock.

Not 100% true, the earth rolls towards the rock's own dip in space4, but its so miniscule that we can't even measure it, so effectively...

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Gyroscopes
« on: August 22, 2007, 06:15:36 PM »
this might sound wierd, but what about frisbees? They follow a similar principle as gyroscopes, but it is exhibited in a fashion that can hardly be blamed as celestial.

Furthermore, if gravitation of stars causes objects to indicate north, why doesn't standing a pencil with a flat eraser and watching its direction always indicate the same direction as gyroscopes?

This thread won't be locked or anything...

If you want to have fun, try proving the FEers wrong like I do. Its actually a great way to kill time.

You omit the part where TheEngineer says that the experiment itself still works...
Indeed. He mentions the failure of the build at home, primarily.

BTW, cc, i love your avatar ^^

Scaled composites is a government contractor.  Burt Rutan is the owner of Scaled Composites.  Therefore, Burt Rutan is a government contractor.

So hes part of the conspiracy, along with everyone in Lockheed-Martin and anyone else who did any work from the government.

That annual money must be stretched mighty thin... Bribes have a habit of getting bigger.

how can you expect him to answer an ill designed question?

Burt Rutan is a private designer with scaled composites. Not a government contractor. They are the private supervision.

Did you forget that when you go to the edge of space over a Flat Earth, you are looking down at a circle?

Hence, a curved horizon.

O my lord...

Tom, you do realize that you would not see certain continents depending on your orbit in RE... you'd see a circle with, say, North and south america. The rest is missing. If this were the case, the earth couldn't be flat....
