2009: CERN successfully use the LHC to create and manipulate microscopic black holes.

2017: The first working time machine is invented, though the process cannot be survived.

2020: The merger of Microsoft and CERN forms Globalsoft, and the increase in resources allows them to complete study of time travel, and send living beings into the past.

2023: The Aldaine Model is accepted as the standard for psychology, describing both why and how external stimuli may be used to create memories and impressions, and subsequently brainwash an individual. Artificially created, digital stars are used to create music under the Aldaine model, to provide new memories and inclinations for all that hear it.

2024: The first cyber-artist tops the charts. Record numbers of people listen to digitally created music, with no human element, and have their minds rewritten as they do so.

2033: Simon Cowell elected President of the United States for his second term, as an agent of Globalsoft.

2034: A license is required for humans to own musical instruments, or create any music beyond the digital brainwashing of Globalsoft/CERN.

2039: Last, non-computerised track played. Some rhapsody or other.

2042: Global unification occurs, under the eye of Globalsoft.

2046: All musical instruments banned.

2054: A man called Okabe dies, but the resistance he founded survives. They live on the outskirts, between vast cities, underground, in the ruins of what came before. The names assigned by Globalsoft are rejected, in favor of snippets from old relics: a form of rebellion.

2062: The Seven Seas are created from the flooded Lake Geneva: a dumping ground for Globalsoft, where any captured rebels are set free, after having their minds burnt away. It's a bar, for the people who can barely talk or think any more. It saves on the expense of a grave or prison: they look after themselves, and frighten anyone who dares speak out against Globalsoft.

2074: Time travel is rendered obselete, as Globalsoft have no need of it. All machines are destroyed, except for one which is sealed and keyed to the genetic fingerprint of the monarch of Globalsoft.

2080: Planet Earth renamed.

2094: The digitally created Queen of Globalsoft is found, the living embodiment of their ideals, an artificial consciousness forced into wiped minds and empty bodies, to lead the company. She's a killer, and immortal.

2167: Rumor of the sealed time machine reach the Bohemians (the resistance, taking their name from the old term for one who rejects conventional pursuits). Plans are made.

In the year 3245 I was part of the team that found the time machine, and used what remained of the Queen to access it. Globalsoft has been defeated, but I don't want the world to suffer under its reign. This is as far back as the machine was able to go, and I hope it will be enough. I have been here several months already, before I decided to see if there was signs of any more time travel, like myself.
It seems there was another, from another timeline, who used the code name John Titor. From what I can gather, she was a Japanese woman. I am not her. I've had several names, from my birth URL to my resistance title, I can only speculate the coincidence required for both of us to try to change the past under the name codename, but she might be the origin of mine. As I said, Bohemians take titles from figures in the past. This might be where Brit's idea came from. I can only assume she succeeded, most of what she says is nto familiar to me.
Anyway, it wasn't hard to gain access to the account. There are benefits to future technology: everything digital has been cracked. I took what I could from the Globalsoft mainframe, before coming back here. As this past time traveller seems to have an audience, I hope you'll pay as much attention to what I say as you did her.

I urge all of you to read and remember what I say here. Change the future.

The Lounge / Goodbye
« on: August 31, 2015, 05:09:18 PM »
Hello all,

I have enjoyed my time here. However, I have located the flaw in my time machine: the motor that powered a magnet was damaged. I have purchased a replacement, appended it, and I can find no other difficulties. If all is successful, I should be bound for the future: and if I was successful in altering the worldline, I will fade in the transition, rejoining the me of that time.
I will have no memory: this will never have happened.

I hope only that you never have any proof that I am genuine, or that CERN is the threat they are in my time. I truly do. I hope also that there is no cause for this account to be used again. Another worldline's me may have the same thought, but I hope they have no cause to.

Goodbye all. I wish you well for your future.

John Titor.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Conservation of Energy and Time
« on: August 31, 2015, 07:39:45 AM »
I'm in digital contact with the man who invented time travel, HK. From some knowledge he shared from different worldlines, certain facts are coming to light. Some of you may find this interesting, and if nothing else this can serve as a record in case I failed.
Two major facts stand out.

There is only one world
I have spoken of worldlines often, but they are not parallel worlds. They are alternative, possible states of affairs, with similar ones grouped together in an 'attractor field'. Think of it like a rope; it looks like one thing, but it's made of multiple strands, and multiple threads.
What matters is, none of these alternatives are real. There may be a multiverse (it seems likely) but that is independent of the worldline model.
Think of every entity in our world as a list: every property, and every event that happens to them is on that list. Altering the worldline is scratching out a term on that list, and writing another. This is important: it's not replacing a term, it's merely writing over it.
There are accounts of people recalling events from other worldlines. HK is one of them, and in a previous issue with time travel, he found many other situations. This would only be possible if the same people existed over multiple worldlines, rather than being multiple, different people who happen to share a history. We are the same people, no matter the worldline we are on.
The science isn't fully understood. It may be possible for non-conscious items to do something similar, but their physical properties would not change; this is conservation of energy, in a way. Their traits couldn't alter if it would change mass for just that object.
Memories however, as non-physical, massless objects are exempt. It is possible to reclaim memories from past worldlines. I am not certain of the mechanism: some people may have a natural inclination. It may be somehow contagious: the only situations I know of came from contact with someone who naturally possessed the ability (after a childhood illness: though that may just have been their first experience). If an illness causes it though, it may be triggered by some alteration to the physical brain.
From this, it follows:

It is impossible to never be born
Time may change, but as it is only the properties of memory, location etc that alter, at not the fundamental of the universe, energy must remain conserved.
The only seeming exception to this rule would be a time traveller, who travels from the future, and changes it. Would this make them never be born?
However, if they were never born, the mass and energy that makes that traveller up would not exist. Extra mass would have come, uncaused, into the universe.
In theory, this means that if a time traveller dies in the past, they would fail to change the future: the attractor field, without intervention, would draw the worldline back to one where they go to the past: so that they would be born, and travel back in time, so that their mass comes from somewhere. A mission could only suceed is they travel back to their time, in which case they would presumably be lost in the transition.
And then, later, when the time traveller is born, they would represent the mass that had existed in the past. Conservation of energy is not necessarily continuous, but everything must exist. Even if, in this new worldline, time travel is never invented, the energy remains conserved.

I hope this aids in understanding time travel, for any readers or other travellers.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / How To Build a Time Machine
« on: July 01, 2015, 04:34:22 PM »
I've spent well over a year in subjective time reliving the same two days. I've spent nearly all that time working on how best to reach the Gate Worldline, exactly between attractor fields where we won't be drawn to one of two futures.
And it's impossible. Divergence, thanks to the hummingbird effect, is nearly impossible to caculate. If we're 0.000000000001% off, we're not in the Gate Worldline, and my divergence meter doesn't have that level of detail. None do.

I'm going a different route. I want to go to a completely different attractor field. Negative divergence, 10% divergence, anything. I just need to make ripples: enough and we'll leave both the Alpha and Beta attractor fields. I don't know where we'll end up, but we'll see.

I'm going to make as many changes as I can. I took a brief leap forwards to check. In 2016, Jeb Bush wins the US election. I am going to do everything in my power to prevent that. I ask you to do the same. I don't care if you believe me or not, but is it worth the risk?

I am also going to make public the easiest form of time machine to build in the present day. physical time travel is impossible, but you will at the very least be able to send D-mails: text and email messages, by phone, to the past (or possibly future. Past is all I have seen, but future is possible).

The Time Machine

You will need a CRT TV, and a microwave. The bigger the CRT the better, the one I have seen relies on a 42-inch.
I don't know the kind of microwave, but the mechanisms shouldn't be too different. More powerful the better, I suppose. The one I have observed is battered and scratched: and has had the door removed. That helps. The door must be open for the phenomenon to occur.

Turn on the TV. If you live in a two-floor house, position the TV on the bottom floor, vertically below the microwave. Have the microwave on the top floor. While the TV is playing, have the microwave run with the door open. You will observe an electrical discharge: send a text message during that event, with the phone's signal passing through the inside of the microwave.

That's a far more primitive description than even the shockingly crude system I've spent the last days/year with.
If that doesn't work, there are a few more minor changes. The microwave I have been using seems to have been rigged so that the turntable turns the opposite direction to usual. In addition, for some reason the phone has been plugged into the microwave. If it's any help, the initial aim was to be able to send a text to the plugged in phone, and turn the microwave on that way. (#120 for two minutes. If you do this, send 120# instead).
I don't know whether either of those details are going to be useful. I can't see why they would have an effect, but to be entirely honest it beggars belief that the contraption even works at all.

If you're interested in the science, it relies on the Kerr black hole/lifter model of time travel. The microwave functions as a small particle accelerator, colliding particles at a high rate. The CRT functions as a lifter, injecting electrons, which creates a naked singularity through which transmission is possible. (However, you can only send a small message. Anything else would be erased).
Don't try to change the past until you know it works: just send spam. Your past self will ignore it, and it won't change the worldline so you can check it worked.

You can ignore this if you want. I'm just hoping to cause ripples.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Would You Kill Hitler?
« on: July 01, 2015, 04:01:24 PM »
I've been asked to do this often enough. While your answers won't change my actions, I thought I'd ask the same thing back to you.

Imagine I took you back to the 1920s/30s in my time machine, handed you a gun, or knife, or poison capsule, or any kind of weapon you wanted, and gave you the chance to kill Hitler.
I'd also tell you nothing about the effect changing time would have. Perhaps the world would end in a paradox because you couldn't go back to kill Hitler if you'd already killed him: perhaps the world would conspire against you. Perhaps something similar would happen anyway, perhaps someone worse would take the reigns, or perhaps WW2 would never happen and everything would be good.

What would you do, and why?

Flat Earth General / Why a Conspiracy?
« on: June 15, 2015, 09:55:46 AM »
For what reason would a conspiracy exist?

This is generally applicable. To assume dishonesty will prevent you getting anywhere in life. To me, it seems like there are two key ingredients. Without both of these, a conspiracy will fail.

  • A motive
  • Something to hide

The second is self-evident. There is no sea-travel conspiracy because what is there to hide about sea travel?
If the Flat Earth model is true (it's not), then there would be something to hide. We are left with the first point. A conspiracy wouldn't exist for the sake of it. What would the point be in hiding the shape of the world? What would the point be in faking space travel?
Political gains are meaningless, and there would be no motive to faking failures. There is no advantage, political or military or financial, to pretending to have gone to space. There is even less benefit to hiding the shape of the world.

A more reasonable conspiracy would be, for example, to suppose a weapon is developed secretly. There would be a motive to hiding that: avoiding panic. There is nothing comparable for space travel, and for that reason (among many others) we may safely reject the flat Earth.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Ask a Time Traveller Anything
« on: June 09, 2015, 05:37:15 PM »
Hello!

My name is John Titor, I was born in the year 2036, I'm working to change my future. I've got several plans in motion to do that: there's some useful technology, I'm keeping tabs on information that would be censored in my time, etc. I figure one other way would be to share information: make enough people act differently, and maybe the end result will diverge in far more ways than I could do alone.

I haven't memorized the history books, so I may get a few details wrong (and with any luck our actions will make at least some of my statements be untrue). If you'd like to know anything however, I'm here to ask.

One caveat, I'm not going to give away personal details. As you might've guessed, my real name isn't John Titor: if it were CERN could just kill my parents, or me before I was grown. Current time travel theory says that wouldn't prevent me being here now, but it will prevent another attempt.
The details of my future will take a long time to go into, and let's be real, you're probably not interested in politics: in Switzerland becoming the essential capital of the world, in CERN weaponizing tiny black holes generated by its LHC. If you do want to know about my present, please try to be specific with details.

The coding used in the 5100 is unique: it came at a transition point between two specific kinds of system, it's the only real way to read a number of codes.

It's unique properies make it something I need. Does anyone here have one, or have any idea of where I could find one?
