Flat Earth Debate / Can't argue with this
« on: September 17, 2007, 08:10:15 AM »
When the Spartans laid out their battle plans to defend against the Persian Empire, they did so on a flat earth map.

If the earth is round, why didn't the Persians come from the other side?

Because they couldn't and the Spartans knew it.

Flat Earth Debate / ISS Again...
« on: September 14, 2007, 02:36:51 PM »
RE proponents propose the ISS orbits the earth at an altitude that is still within the atmosphere. The average temperature at this altitude is 4000 degrees farhenheit.

So, it manages to not be slowed down by the atmosphere?
Also, RE astronauts do not cook at 4000 degrees? I wonder what kind of training they have to go through for that.  :o

Flat Earth Debate / The flat-earth graviton
« on: September 14, 2007, 07:55:36 AM »
Since RE can have a magical particle, I've decided we can too. Here's how ours works.

The graviton is a high-energy dual wave. The energy in the graviton can only be released from it's particle duality. This interaction can only occur when the waves are coherent. As the graviton passes through matter, the waves lose their coherence. This attribute of coherence can only be re-achieved as the graviton passes through a vacuum.

The UA creates an infinite amount of gravitons (without spending any energy, as per the same mechanism perposed by RE theory) at an alarmingly infinite rate. Passing through the vacuum beneath the earth, the gravitons become coherent. When they collide with earth, energy is transferred to earth, accelerating it upwards. The gravitons break out of phase and pass through the earth uneventfully. As they pass into the vacuum above our sky, they become coherent again. This cycle allows them to accelerate the moon, the sun, and all celestial bodies away from the UA.

Flat Earth Q&A / Anybody have a chemistry background?
« on: September 05, 2007, 02:42:13 PM »
How difficult would this process be?
Making Nafion:
Nafion derivatives are first synthesized by the copolymerization of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) (the monomer in Teflon) and a derivative of a perfluoro (alkyl vinyl ether) with sulfonyl acid fluoride. The latter reagent can be prepared by the pyrolysis of its respective oxide or carboxylic acid to give the olefinated structure.[4]

The resulting product is an -SO2F-containing thermoplastic that is extruded into films. Hot aqueous NaOH converts these sulfonyl fluoride (-SO2F) groups into sulfonate groups (-SO3-Na+). This form of Nafion, referred to as the neutral or salt form, is finally converted to the acid form containing the sulfonic acid (-SO3H) groups. Nafion can be cast into thin films by heating in aqueous alcohol at 250 C in an autoclave. By this process, Nafion can be used to generate composite films, coat electrodes, or repair damaged membranes. [2]

Flat Earth Debate / Aviation Anomoly.
« on: September 05, 2007, 12:12:33 PM »
Let us consider an airplane on a round earth. After liftoff, the plane gains altitude and begins to cruise at a specific height. At this moment in time, the plane maintains this altitude.

The problem: this altitude is lower (with respect to the airplanes current gravity vector) everywhere else on the earth. So as the plane flies around the earth, it is literally falling to maintain an altitude. Yet studies have shown planes to require constant work to maintain an altitude via conventional means of lift.

Summary: In a round earth, you can glide forever. This is not the case.

Flat Earth Q&A / The problem with the Big Bang
« on: September 05, 2007, 07:35:02 AM »
Correctly answering the following problems constitutes winning the Flat Earth Society Forums.

The Situation
Prior to the big bang, our known universe+ was squished into a singularity. As a singularity, there were several charactaristics that raise an eyebrow. These are:

  • At that pressure, no elements exist. Theoretically, all matter was in the form of whatever the simplest atomic structure, whether that is quarks or some other unknown building block.
  • All matter occupied the same space, literally indistinguishable from the next piece of matter.

The result was a uniform mixture of the most basic building blocks, pressureized to an infinite pressure, and distributed over no space.

When the pressure reached too great an infinity  ???, the singularity exploded.

Problem 1
When the singularity exploded, what was the determining factor that decided the direction each peice of matter exploded in?

Problem 2
How did a uniform mixture explode into a non-uniform Universe where no two identical superatomic (no two planets, stars, asteroids, or gaseous clusters are alike) objects exist, and furthermore, no uniform distribution of matter across the universe?

Flat Earth Debate / Proof against gravity

Get a rock, reasonably sized.
Cut a a square piece of tinfoil.

Throw the rock directly upwards, as fast as you possibly can.
Hold the tinfoil square above your head. This will block graviton exchange between the earth and the rock.

Serious head trama means there were no gravitons to block and therefore no gravity.
No head injury means you throw like a girl (either not straight, or not hard).

Flat Earth Debate / The Round Earth Universal Accelerator
« on: August 23, 2007, 08:41:16 AM »
WARNING: Avoid reading this if you wish to remain ignorant about the RE UA.

Thanks to our friend, the graviton, we are able to accelerate anything in space, in any direction, to any magnitude. This can be done indefinitely, without consuming any energy.

How does it work? Well it is simple really. We take any object with mass. This object will act as our graviton gun. We can place our graviton gun on any vector normal to earth that we wish to accelerate earth towards. Since the RE earth spins, lets pick the north pole to avoid any retarded contentions.

Place your graviton gun on the north pole and let it act as a constant accelerating force on earth. With enough time, it will dislodge our planet from the Milky Way.

Flat Earth Debate / More FE evidence
« on: August 09, 2007, 03:32:07 PM »
This one is simple. Let us assume the earth is round. Let us now consider the following drawing:

1,2 vectors normal to the surface of the earth.
a,b distance between the vectors at different altitudes.

Notice, the further from earth the more distant the vectors are from each other. If the earth is round, we should be able to observe this on objects that extend some x distance from the surface of earth.

Let us consider very tall trees:

Scientists studying the great redwood forests have never measured a noticeable distance increase at the top of these tall trees compared with their base. They are tall enough to give some evidence of the curveature of the earth. Okay, maybe this is just an odd case.

Lets consider something else, like skyscrapers:

In a recent land and zoning survey, the Petronas Twin Towers were measured to have no change in distance at any portion, the only exception is to account for absesses in the building structure as it rises.

Why cannot these natural or artificial measuring sticks show the curveature of the earth?
Because there is no such curveature. Your eyes have been opened.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Homosexuality is either:
« on: July 31, 2007, 02:01:53 PM »
Homosexuality is either a choice, or forced on someone by their genetic encoding.

If it is a choice, than that person chooses to behave in a sexual manner that is not the norm. This is sexual deviance.

If it is not a choice, than that person's genes have mutated to create such a physical attraction. This is a mutant.

Or more simply: perverts or x-men.

Flat Earth Debate / RE'ers, lets try it this way.
« on: July 27, 2007, 01:23:54 PM »
Here are some questions for RE'ers. I have several, but will not introduce the next question until the current question has unanymity.

Question 1
Imagine a large rubber ball. You point your finger at the ball, with an initial seperation of 9 cm and move your finger towards the ball at a rate of 1 cm per second. After 9 seconds, what is the distance between the ball and your finger?

I'll bet that got TheEngineer's attention. Why? Because you cannot tell the difference. That's a fact.

However, there is a major difference between FE acceleration and RE gravitation. Our force vectors are only identical for one point on earth. So FE force vectors are all parrallel while only one RE vector should be parrallel.

This means that we can measure two of these force vectors and compare them. If they are identical, the earth's acceleration/gravitation is regular(FE). If they are different, the earth's acceleration/gravitation is different per location(RE).

The experiment

1) Place two objects at some distance from each other. The distance will affect how quickly the experiment gives results, but ultimately does not matter.

2) Measure the distances between these objects.

3) Wait a period of time, allowing the force of acceleration/gravitation to act on these objects.

4) Measure the distances between these objects.

Interpreting the results
If the distance between the objects have grown, then the evidence suggests we had forces A and C. This means the earth is round.

If the distance between the objects is the same, then the evidence suggests we had forces A and B. This means the earth is flat.

Measure the color that reflects (or is emitted) by any object from two angles.
Angle 1, directly above the object, the higher the better.
Angle 2, from the objects side.

If the color sampled from angle 1 is bluer(the wavelength is longer) than the color sampled from angle 2, the earth is accelerating upwards.
