"At will" employment is basically you can quite or be fired without giving a notice or reason. Most people / places have the decency to give a notice &/or reason but it's not required.

It's your fault for being an "at-will" employee. I have no pity for you, lrn2thnkahed.
Go fist-fuck yourself, asshole.

I just got the employee handbook delivered to me by the woman I worked with. According to her no one has been told anything, not even the other supervisors. I called her during the night to see what was going on & one of the other supervisors was covering my shift & was just as surprised to hear that I had been fired. Maybe the management thinks no one will notice if I just never show up again?

If no-one but the top brass knows maybe you could just sneak back in gain... ok getting paid might be hard but I'm sure you could fudge it...
I could go in there any time over this weekend & what could they do? No one was told I'm not allowed in anymore, and this is supposed to be a high-security job!

I'll look in to the bonus situation...not that it would be much of one anyway. I know that from past experience  ::)

Yup, U.S. California.

someone I told i was fired told me their timing sucked. Actually, their timing is spot-in because now I bet they're not gonna give me my Christmas bonus.

According to the law, an "at will" employement (which is what I had) can be terminated by either party for any reason or no reason. So, in other words...no job security whatsoever. Even on the lawyer board I posted this on the only advice I got was "look for another job"  ::)

No reason given. Over the phone too! When I asked the manager said she didn't want to get into any "specifics" but they've decided to let me go. I was with the company for almost 9 years, only one person has been there longer than me, was a supervisor & the only person to have ever received a merit raise.

Merry fuckin' Christmas y'all.

She was an actress & met Roddenberry on the original Sart Trek series. She produced quite a bit of sci-fi as well, series & movies. She also played Diana Troi's (spelling ?) mother on Star Trek, the next generation. She's pretty well known amongst people who like & watch sci-fi. The link on the previous post is to her IMDB page.

You don't know who she is? Are you familiar with Star Trek? Andromeda? Sci-fi?

I wanna know why anyone who believes in a god's existence thinks that god would really care what happens to them on a personal level.

It's not really a problem with Vista itself, it's more of the thought that a Mac would be more productive for what I will be doing (mostly school work and various other things) as well as the simplicity.  So really there's nothing wrong with Vista, I'm just ready to change.
Then don't blame it on Vista. Tsk, tsk.

He's not?
See the thread title?

if it's Vista you don't want, then getting a Mac is really not necessary. You can down a different OS Like Linux or just a different browser, like Firefox, Safari, or Google's new Chrome.

I have firefox.  That's not the problem.
Go back to XP then, or further back. It's not impossible.

I wanna go back to XP but I need to back up all my files first and so I need to "borrow" a removeable hard drive from somewhere and its hard to "borrow" things here.
Bummer. I'd let you borrow mine but I don't think I could throw it that far. You could back it up to some DVDs or Blueray, that would only take a few disks...depending on how much you gots to back up.

I don't really know what some (many) people find soooo wrong with windows, but it's what I'm used to so maybe it's just that I don't know the options.
having said that, I have recently down'd both Firefox & Chrome to see how they work as opposed to IE.
