Flat Earth General / riddle me this...
« on: September 26, 2015, 04:24:29 PM »
If 2 planes took off from London and both were headed in opposite directions, both bound for Sydney in Australia, surely (if the world was flat) only 1 plane would make it and the other would just fly into abyss??

Thoughts?

Flat Earth Q&A / What WOULD It Take To Appease FE'ers (and RE'ers alike)
« on: February 20, 2015, 05:48:37 AM »
I am curious as to what proof would be needed to settle this debate once and for all?

I'm not a religious person and I don't believe that a big man in the sky went "zap" with a magic wand and created the universe and everything in it, like everyone has been told in school when growing up. I do believe, however, that the Earth is round and surely everyone who has been into space, or even on a plane can't be called liars. So I aim this question at all the flat earthers out there... What proof, beyond all doubt, would be needed to prove the shape of the Earth and how could they go about doing it?

Flat Earth Q&A / Perspective
« on: February 16, 2015, 02:55:03 AM »
I am curious as to many things that FE'ers believe. I am certain that the Earth is in fact round but I am also curious as to hear reasons otherwise.

I believe that FE'ers believe that the moon and the sun are relatively short distances from the Earth (a couple thousand miles away). So surely if a telescope can see them, what is to stop me from seeing the Burj Khalifa or Mount Everest with a powerful telescope if the world is in fact flat?

4
Saros... Just what are you basing YOUR theory on? I'm still baffled that in this day and age, people believe the world is flat (and now infinite) Airoplane pilots, space engineers, satellite photos - Are these all wrong (or maybe all just lies)?

Flat Earth General / Re: What is the Motive for the RE Conspiracy?
« on: June 09, 2014, 04:50:50 PM »
Why do you keep asking these questions when I have answered them before with factual evidence?

The main goal of the conspiracy is to harvest resources from the ice wall and to develop technology to utilize aether through laundered funds.

This whole "ice wall" thing sounds really pathetic and ludicrous. how about showing us some evidence instead of talking about it. RE'ers constantly post photos, videos and facts of a round earth. wheres your proof? furthermore, why has no one ever seen this ice wall from earth, from a plane, from space etc?????

Flat Earth General / Re: Is VirginGalactic part of the Conspiracy?
« on: June 09, 2014, 04:41:29 PM »
FE'ers... Let's say that the whole Virgin Space Program does go ahead and regular Joes get to fly into space and they all come back with inevitable pictures of a round Earth. Will you believe it then or is it just another one of the trillions of conspiracies?

7
But why would they want us to believe there is a flat earth...what do they stand to gain?

8
My bad,

I forgot that everything in life that proves a round earth is fabricated. I hate to sound mocking all the time and i have looked at this from an open mind, but i cant fathom a way that a flat earth could function...

Flat Earth General / Re: What happens at the edge of round earth?
« on: April 18, 2014, 04:33:24 AM »
I can see that will be torn apart. You should start a new topic on that one.

Oh boy, let me start:

-The sun isn't big enough, not enough gravity to start the fusion reaction
-If it did start somehow (magic) it will last less than 1 day.
-The sun should collapse on the earth at that minuscule mass.
-There's nothing stopping the sun's rays from reaching further, unless the atmosphere would absorb a few hundred times more solar energy.
-If the atmosphere would absorb more energy to not allow the light to reach further, we would all be scorched.
-The sun doesn't act like a spotlight, no matter how much you try to make physics fit this conception.
-If the stars were a dome over the earth, apart from actually seeing the same stars from almost any points using a good enough telescope (contrary to what they said), it would mean that you would see the same stars if you looked at the sky with a telescope during the day, and during the night. Clearly not the case.
-The comment about the airplane pilot is just flat out retarded xD

I think modernmechanix just wanted to have a few good laughs at this idiocy xD

Once again, you are having trouble separating what you think you know about a big sun with what a small sun would be like.  Maybe you could stop being a smart @ss and start opening your mind.  Don't worry, you don't have to convert.  Just try accepting that a flat Earth is different from what you have been told about a round Earth.

So Jroa, you actually believe that sun sun is a mere 3,000 miles from Earth? (basically the same distance between London and New York). The sun must be no bigger than the size of a small country based on your theory then? Yet it has enough energy to light/heat this planet for untold billions of years...

It was a comedy skit. You don't believe the real stuff and you believe the fake stuff. How ironic.

What makes you so sure it is a comedy skit?  He seemed pretty serious to me.  Here is a lecture in front of an audience.  He does not seem like a very good comedian, although me makes them laugh every now and then.

"he seemed pretty serious to me"...thats like me saying "the world seems pretty round to me"...

Hi, I may be a newbie on this forum, but I've been reading through the current topics and many of the older discussions to help me get an insight into how people from different backgrounds and prospectives understand the process of science, how they interpret the meaning of the scientific method, and how well people understand how the scientific community has constructed our understanding of the natural world. The OP and the early responses to the post caught my eye for a different reason and I'd like to expand on it:

>>>>>If you were a parent, how would you react if your child (whether they are young or adult now) one day professes that they believe that the shape of earth is different from your view of it. And what would you do if they intend to teach their belief in a FE or RE to their own children? This applies to FE and RE alike.<<<<<

I'm really interested to hear how people from both sides feel about this.

Cheers!

This is my take on it: I've never questioned the shape of the earth. It's clearly round, everyone knows it is, there's undeniable scientific proof, photos, obvious facts such as planes flying around the globe...compared with flat earthers who say that the earth is flat but youll never see the edge because it's too cold and (for some reason) satellites in space cant even zoom in and take photos of it...In life, there's always going to be small pockets of people who dream up theories to challenge facts. This is one of them. They don't know how to back up their own arguments and always use the terms "well we think that" or "maybe its because". How hard can it be to just get a picture of somewhere near the "edge of the earth" to prove it? 7billion people on this planet, millions of planes flying globally each year, SURELY someone must have seen it?...

13
No, you haven't.

Quit denying. Admit it. The earth is round.

When you can show me with a flashlight a golf ball and a baseball how an observer can see both an eclipsed golf ball and the flashlight, I'll start thinking about the earth's rotundity with more than a chuckle.

how can you laugh at the earths "rotundity" when you guys believe that:

No one could ever go to the edge of the earth since its -276 degrees.
Every single person that has ever gone into space and saw (and photographed) our round world, is a liar.
you believe that 1 person did make it to the edge of the earth and took photos, but "alas, they were exposed to sunlight and ruined".

...A flat earth theory died out centuries ago. Way back when people were being hung for stealing apples and egyptians believed that a dragon ate the sun every day...

14
I'm not convinced.  Those photos look like CGI.  Some of us are just not as easily convinced as most.  It would be great if we lived a moneyless, equal and honest world but we don't.  That's reality.
All photos look like CGI to you. Show us a real photo that is not CGI.

Well they tried communism in Russia...Didn't work out unfortunately

The panorama posted by sceptimatic wouldn't qualify here, it's simply a panoramic photo of a city and not a picture of earth from orbit or lunar orbit. I know sceptimatic asserts that the panorama is proof of a FE, but this is outlandish and I suspect sceptimatic is a troll, so his post really doesn't add anything to the discussion.

Whether or not sceptimatic is a troll is now considered immaterial by most folks on this forum.  His unscientific, irrational and/or frivolous responses are those of a troll, and ignored by the great majority of members—both round earthers and flat earthers.  Try searching "denpressure" as an example of what I mean LOL.

And although (as a round earther) I accept the veracity of your posted images, you'll inevitably encounter a hard-core set of flat earth disbelievers who'll simply dismiss them out of hand—but for no demonstrable reason(s).

You'll also notice that there is not one single image posted in support of the flat earth theory.  The best the flat earthers can do is to snipe away repeatedly at the dozens of images the round earthers post here.  Which is quite pointless really.

Great images BTW.   :)

It's amazing that you have to call yourself a round earther. That's something that shouldn't even be brought into question...

Maybe they'd like to de-bunk other myths aswell. I hear this whole converting oxygen into carbon dioxide is a sham!

Google, United Airlines, and FedEx are simply mistaken about the shape of the Earth.

But it's you guys sitting behind your computers that are correct?

You said you were going to guess, and then you asked a question instead.  Perhaps you don't understand how guessing works?

Perhaps FE'ers try avoiding tricky questions with answers like this...

If 2 planes set off in completely different directions, both headed for Australia (and according to a flat earth) would only 1 plane make it there?

Also, if there is apparently a point on the Earth where there is a mammoth -276 degrees weather system, then where is the furthest you can possibly go? Surely someone has got close and taken photos?

Flat Earth General / Re: Can anyone spot the error?
« on: April 16, 2014, 06:53:20 AM »
Here's a big clue.

Hardcore flat earth evidence right there...

21
Here's your proof of a flat Earth. Have a panoramic view of it all and even scroll the horizon to the top and see it's straight. Here's your proof, now stop saying no evidence has been given.

http://www.360cities.net/image/view-from-castello-castelsardo-sardinia#78.73,-19.03,110.0

And how do you think you'll see the 20cm/km curvature on a panorama view from very close to the ground? Of course it appears flat.

And it's a panorama view. The sides are stretched.

The only way to properly see Earth's curvature is from a very high altitude, not from sea level.

Like in this photo:

Taken from the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 2002. They were on the dark side of Earth. You can even see the moon in the distance.

I dunno, he has a point...I'm pretty sure that this 1 panoramic photo disproves scientific evidence, knowledge and fact...

Please provide evidence that a fighter jet has circumnavigate the globe in 16 hours of nonstop travel.

Please provide evidence that the world is flat...

I'm not angry, i just fully don't understand why you're trying to disprove something like a round earth. I see that (from a previous post someone posted) you have around 300 followers. Between these followers, what evidence do you have that proves a flat earth? It just seems like one day someone decided he thought the world was flat and got a small cult together to dream up ideas as to why it may be. i still havent recieved any logical reasonings from anyone that hold any sway. I'd be delighted if you had any evidence that was more upstanding than "ifs" and "maybes"
Where did your evidence for a globe come from? Did you decide it or was it decided for you?

Well it's common kowledge backed up by scientific fact and logic...not your theories of a flat earth that is flat because you say it is and all your made up theories of it being too cold to explore and impossible for anyone to ever see, bla bla bla...being a smart person here, i'd opt for the scientifically backed, logical (correct) answer.

Flat Earth General / Re: What happens at the edge of round earth?

to my best knowledge, only Andrea Barnes has been to the edge, but never returned, she photographed it, but alas, the film was exposed to sunlight. It is possible others have been to the edge but no one has reported it, or lived to return.

Meanwhile, Roald Amundsen went to the South Pole of the spherical Earth and came back with photographs that didn't evaporate.

Do you have the ships logs that prove "Roald Amundsen went to the South Pole". If so post them here. Until then you have no proof that the earth is round.

Fappenhosen, you really do have the worse arguments i have ever heard. I am debating wether flat earthers are just internet trolls trying to wind smart people up. Kind of like the small cult of Americans that believe the apocalypse is coming and lock their families in shelters for 16 hours a day to get them ready for the apocalypse.

you question a round of theory but come back with pathetic answers for a flat earth theory "we believe that its minus 276 degrees and theres an ice dome there, bla bla bla" "no one has been to the edge of the earth and lived to tell the myth"...surely a rocket could fly 1,000 miles above the earths surface and zoom into the edge of this "flat earth" and get photos? If we can put man on the moon and a rover on Mars then surely we can put a thermal jacket on a camera with wheels and send it to the edge? Or is that another impossible way of proving your logic?

JROA, you're just coming back with petty answers that don't do anything to aid in the acceptance of a flat earth.
Like Donk3y said, a fighter jet can circumnavigate the globe in 16 hours. Do you think that anyone who has circumnavigated the globe, be it by foot, car, bike, boat, plane etc is lying?

And obviously i personally can't, but if they can put man on the moon and send satellites to Mars, then why the hell can they send one to the edge of our own planet? Your crappy theory about it being too cold to do so is pathetic.

27
Flat Earth General / Re: I'm open minded to many things...
« on: April 10, 2014, 08:54:52 AM »
Once again JROA, you're coming up with your own form of rationalisation. You're thinking of ways to prove your myths. Why can rockets and satellites be sent millions of miles into space but not to the edge of the earth? Also, why are we apparently led to believe the earth is round? why would the government tell us this?

Flat Earth General / Re: I'm open minded to many things...

I've heard that Flat Earthers believe that 1 person made it to the edge of the earth but never came back?...Now to me, that sounds so ridiculous and something that a child would dream up.

Riddle me this FE'ers...A plane leaving from England can reach Australia in 24 hours regardless of what way around the globe it travels...furthermore, why do passengers and pilots on the tens of thousands of planes that fly to every "corner" of the globe NEVER see the edge of the Earth?

Any logical answers?

Fappenhosen / Iwanttobelieve...Are you for real? Such laaaaaame reasonings and pathetic arguments. Sounds like a 5 year old trying to quickly make up something on the spot. "its minus 276 degrees and impossible to go to" "only 1 person ever did but the film was exposed to sunlight". So ridiculous it's laughable!

Flat Earth General / Re: I'm open minded to many things...

I never thought that the Earth's shape was ever something that needed bringing into question. I've asked questions before, such as:

Why don't they just go to the edge of the earth and prove it?
Does the oceans waters just continuously flow off and into space?
Why is every other planet spherical but our own?
Out of the 7billion people that inhabit the world, SURELY one of them would have been to "the edge" of it?

So many questions that they skirt around answering. All i get are individuals theories on why they think it's flat. I don't know why they think the government, scientists, NASA and everyone else would be fooling us into thinking its not flat.

But hey, if it turns out these guys are right...i'll eat my hat!
