Americas problem too is it's own education system is woeful and the only reason why they get anywhere is a H1B visa. They literally let other countries invest all the money and resources in educating their youth and then America swoops in with grand offers to take them away to work for them

America is arguably becoming a worse and worse place to live. It's deeply divided, polarized, violent and very heavy in debt that soon it will break. No wonder they hate China given China will soon overtake it as the economic powerhouse and it will do so without being 30 trillion or whatever the American debt level is in debt

And this has what to do with China's Mars mission and your local media coverage?

It's well understood you dislike the US and our politics, you bring it up when it has no correlation to the subject and twist it in somehow.  Perhaps you should have stronger focus on your government and media, after all, that was the topic of your OP.

Did you at least hear the news that Rocket Lab had a failed launch yesterday?  It's a company owned by your brothers in New Zealand and launched from their facility.  Just curious if this made news there or it only showed in my "American" news feed.

Apologies for my first post.  Tablet screen proves hard to see and type on.

"I say American propaganda but it's increasingly Australian too."
Surely your government is involved with US propaganda? What benefit do you think AUS will see from that?
Sorry, I don't see any connection to propaganda.  Just bad media/news if you choose to use those poor media outlets.

Not sure what new media outlets you have availible there but it's been reported here in the US for months.  BBC also had reports on progress and regular updates.

Agreed, if it lands I don't think we'll hear much more about it, other than that.  It doesn't have the sensors or tech to surpass what we alredy have there.
I considerit a test mission for them but hope they succede.

Elon Musk is my hero. I love Elon Musk

JJA did you forget your login or something?

Well back to this $100 million prize, you can bet whoever comes up with the genius invention will simply get the $100 million for Elon to buy it off you, so he can patent it under his name, take the credit and then call it something stupid (eg 'Boring company' because it bores HAHAHA forget to laugh at that lame arse Dad joke)

Why did you just lie and misquote me?  Don't put words in my mouth to suit your agenda.
I repotted this to a mod as it's very offensive.

It's just paraphrasing. Don't take it so hard

No it's not "paraphrase" and it's offensive.  I have never stated anything more than facts and nothing about my impressions of the individual.
DON'T post things I have not said or put words in my mouth!

Don't take it hard? F**k you!  Would you like me posting fake quotes under your name that misrepresent you?

It's a joke, not a dick... So yeah, no need to take it so hard

C'mon man, don't be so mad at a few carefully placed pixels on a screen. Chill out. Go find a way to capture carbon. Your idol will pay you $100 million buckazoids for it. No homo

-Anyone putting words in my mouth and misrepresentation is not taken lightly.
-You've done it again by calling him my idol, not my words or has been posted.

Why do you keep lying to ,try to, prove your agenda?

Elon has never claimed to be a scientist nor have ever heard anyone reference he is.  His academic degree is in economics and he was a physics drop out.  His first start up companies sold for near $2 billion USD between Paypal and Compaq and is now is one of the wealthiest people in the world.

It's well know that Nicola Tesla had wild ideas and went crazy later in his life.  The Tesla name is very suiting for Musk's unorthodox approach.

He runs a business that invests in tech and while many of his crazy ideas go no farther than discussion, he get's a lot of press from the few ideas that do make it fruition.  His ideas and investments are a huge asset to engineering and science.

Humanity won't stop wasting money or destroying ourselves and the planet it seems either. But hey, we flew a toy on another world. Whoop-de-fkn-doo! ::)

How do you know that "toy" won't help reveal other tings we don't know about our habitat?
I'll ask again, SOULD WE STOP EXPLORING AND RESEARCH?

Edison and Tesla were despicable people and should not be idolised.

Edison was a bastard that electrocuted small animals because he got the shits with Tesla when he lost the AC/DC war.
Tesla is also not the man you think he is. He also had a mean streak and his character and image was manufactured

I'm well versed with both individuals and their studies.  Their personalities have nothing/very little to do with research, science and the aftermath.

Would you like to comment on the other bullet points?
Humanity will not stop learning and exploring.  It's in our nature, like it or not.

Yes satellites here monitoring and observing the Earth is a good thing. Monitoring a barren, lifeless desert hundreds of millions of kilometres away where 1 satellite could have fulfilled many projects here instead = stupid

What one satellite would have fulfilled your project?  Which one is missing?  You should also note that a majority of satellites in space were built by independent companies or parties and more agencies than NASA launches them.

-You say "stupid" but I'll redirect back to the Kitty Hawk.  Those initial test and research were though to be "stupid" by many, now flight is an every day part of life and we rely on it.  Transport, cargo, military, rescue, search, research, etc...
-The first satellites and space exploration around 60 years ago was also "stupid" among skeptics.  It's also an expected and part of everyday life for us now.
-Edison and Tesla might be my favorite example.  Musk named his company appropriately after Tesla's crazy, wild ideas but much of Tesla's silly research and experiments are used today.  We can only guess what our power system would look like these days if it weren't for the battle/competitiveness between Edison and Tesla.

The point here is, we don't always know what we're looking for or what's to be found.  Does that mean we should stop looking?

Oh so bevause it's only 15c

Id rather see 82 million or the billions spent getting the damn things to the other planet in the first place making actual tangible benefits to problems that exist on our planet. Like climate change ::)

All of, or most of, your arguments contradict history and known facts.
NASA does a huge amount of research on climate change and we wouldn't know near the amount we do without their satellites, sensors and engineers.  They do more research than any other organization.

You also claim they do nothing for potential threats or help people.  Why do you ignore weather satellites that predict hurricane paths or more local tornado threats?  Early warnings have saved many lives.  Lets not forget those communication satellites bringing phone and internet to remote areas.

The post about Wright Brothers and Kitty Hawk went way over your head.  No, Wright bro's were not funded but, US government spent 10's of thousands funding other research projects at the time.  They were also ridiculed and laughed at.  Where has that silly research brought us today?

Should we also touch on other environmental concerns?  Alga blooms, water shed monitors, forest tracking or geology?  The more we learn of other planets and how things work there helps shed light on ALL these issues we have here.

You can not decide when technology should stop progressing and we live out our lives as is.  You would likely have been gone long ago if your ancestors shared that attitude.

He built a tunnel/road he owns, charges fees to use and can only be used by cars he manufactures. What's the embarrassing part?
