Flat Earth Q&A / Circular Reasoning?
« on: February 19, 2017, 06:42:26 PM »
Most of your arguments rest upon the presuppositions that NASA and the government have been lying to us. How, may I ask, do you know this?

This seems to be circular reasoning (your premise assumes the answer).
In order to think that the Earth is flat, you need to assume that all of these people are lying. You would need a reason to think that they are lying. You would think that the Earth is flat, therefor the government is lying.

The Earth is flat-I know because the government is lying-I know they are lying because they are hiding the truth that the Earth flat.

Also, on your FAQ, it states, "During the Cold War we faked the moon landing." This assumes that we faked the moon landing. If we did, then your argument stands. However, if we didn't fake it, then your argument is falsified. This again is circular reasoning.

I can reverse both of these claims at you. "I know the Earth is round because the government isn't lying." This is the reverse of "I know the Earth is flat since the government is lying." When you don't 100% know if they are lying or not, both claims are possible.

If I am wrong about the viewpoints, please correct me as I am new to this theory.

I see your point. That is interesting.

"Daniel 4:10-11. In Daniel, the king “saw a tree of great height at the centre of the earth...reaching with its top to the sky and visible to the earth's farthest bounds.” Only with a flat earth could tall tree be visible from “the earth's farthest bounds,” — this is impossible on a spherical earth.

This is a dream... It is a metaphorical dream. Not meant to be taken literally.

Matthew 4:8: "Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world"

Christ is all-powerful. He can do anything. The Devil showing Him the kingdoms doesn't necessarily mean all of them. Even if the Earth is flat, it would be impossible to see the whole Earth to a human level since our sight is limited. If using the argument that Jesus can see anything, which is true, that would also mean that He could see anything on the other side of a round world.

Isaiah 11:12 "And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth."
Revelation 7:1 "And after these things I saw four angels standing on four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree."

For Isiah, some translations actually say quarters, which doesn't prove anything. You are taking biblical verses that aren't meant to be taken literally, literally. When they say 4 corners of the Earth, they would mean to the farthest reaches of the Earth. The Earth would have no corners anyways, even if it was flat, there still wouldn't be corners. The Earth is still round, even if it is flat.
For the Revelations verse, that whole book isn't meant to be 100% literal. There is symbolism in it. This could also be in reference to the four cardinal direction, North;South;East;West.

“He shakes the earth from its place and makes its pillars tremble.” Job 9:6
These verses are showing the power of God. This is symbolic to His nature. He means the foundations of the Earth when it states pillars. The Earth has no true foundations, so that would indicate he is using figurative language to indicate a mental picture for Job.

“Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? … Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened?”  Job 38:4-6
Symbolic not meant to be literal. verse 7 of the chapter, "while the morning stars sang together," the stars don't literally sing, showing that the verse isn't meant to be taken literally.

All of these arguments are taken out of context and most are symbolic. Most of these aren't meant to be literal.

"He drew a circular horizon on the face of the waters,
At the boundary of light and darkness."-Job 26:10
A circular horizon, indicating a round Earth.
